I am super impressed with your knowledge of rust treatment on bodyshells Del 👍 I just use many layers of different colours of paint to represent weathering on my shells with a good dose of rubbing down in-between coats 😎

I love that effect! I've used it on a Kamtec-bodied wrecker truck. As thidms shell's lexan I thought that too many layers could lead to flaking, as I wasn't using posh Tamiya paint. It still ended up with 2 layers on the inside and 2 on the outside, even though I was trying to keep the layer count down.

Excellent, very good work on this bodywork, nice look. Perfect run and crawling test. I see that you have a lot of wind too, and it's not always easy to film, here it's the same 🙄 Your caravan is great 😍

Hello, Pascal! I was struggling with wind noise - I taped my phone to the tracking pole and had it playing a diesel engine sound effect to try to help to drown out the wind. I'm glad that yo like the caravan - it's made from thin plywood, and the windows, are food packaging materials : )

@@Del350K4 A caravan made with salvage, that's a work I like 😉 I heard the noise of the diesel engine, and I thought that you had found a good solution to attenuate the noise of the wind. Besides, I also saw in your video that the sea had splendid waves 😍

@@satorrotas The sea looked very cold - it had that greenish-grey colour, and, as you say, splendid waves!

@@Del350K4 It is certain that I would not go swimming, although it must be warmer where you are than here, but looking at the sea is always very pleasant 😉👍

@@satorrotas Today it would have been warm enough here to sit on the beach, but I would not have gone for a swim! The sea in the video is very close to where I was when I very nearly drowned last summer, while recording my "Gibraltar Fast Cargo Launch" video. Another reason not to swim there!

Hi Del and thanks for a very entertaining 17 minutes! So much in this video I don't know where to start! Marvelous job on the body, the truck looks resplendent in all it's weathered and rusty glory, so much better than the "just out of the factory" stock look. Great job with the driver and interior, finishes the rig off nicely and well worth the extra effort. Hat's off to you for the details that you added to the run element of the video, loved the bill boards, extra vehicles and sound effects. And of course, that wonderful scale caravan, complete with a door that just would not stay shut! So true-to-life! The truck performed admirable out on the (extremely scale looking) terrain. Glad you left the tumbles in! Loved it my friend, take care and have a lovely weekend!

Hello, Mark! I'm glad that you like the scruffiness of the truck. Obviously there are some freshly restored Unimog around, but as I was very restrained with the 2CV I'd just painted, I allowed myself to rust the truck, and I'm glad that I did it. The driver was always going to be in there, but the interior was a last minute thing because had I wanted the RC Elf to see a video of his generous gift as soon as possible, and had planned to just have a driver in there. I did get right into doing the interior, though, and had to prevent myself from doing more! The billboards are all references to GTA Vice City and San Andreas, and I couldn't resist parking a couple of 1950s trucks in the background. They had to be far away because they're 1:12 scale. I also avoided recording in woodland so the trees wouldn't give away the scale. If the weather permits I hope to go out and record some footage showing the improved performance tomorrow. : )

Hello, Matteo; thank you very much! The CC-02 is an interesting chassis to build - almost a crawler, but with tyres made from a rubber which resembles ebony more than rubber!

Hey Del, absolutely spot on with this model! Love the technique of rusting it 👍🏻 Looks like you had a blast building and filming this. Looks like the locked front and rear diffs worked a treat (you rebel!!)

Hello again! Did you like my rust? I had to summon the willpower to be reasonably restrained with the rust, as I wanted the truck to look well-used without being a case for the scrap yard. I am so glad that I went back and locked that front diff. Once you've finished a stage in a build it does take an effort of will to go back and undo it, but now I'm delighted that I did so.

Great job Del. A very good example of lexan body painting & finishing, as well as a great running Unimog.

Thank you! I'll always prefer hard bodies, but at least I'm developing a degree of familiarity with lexan. The tyres did better than I had expected on those rocks, given that they appear to have been carved from ebony. They even found enough traction to allow the thing to climb a hill which was so steep that it wheelied over backwards, which astounded me!

Hey Del if you want to dull the shine down just wet sand it with 800 grit great work a talented 9 year old that was funny it turned out really great

Hello, Brent! Yes, I only used the bare minimum of the stickers they provided on this model. The trouble with wet sanding it was that I could only find quite coarse paper at my local hardware store and I didn:t want to wait for Amazon. I was surprised to see how well it did on the rocks with these rock-hard tyres!

Ha ha! You're the first to notice that the wheels were seized! The idea was that our Unimog driver found the caravan dumped next to a skip, hooked it up, then abandoned it when he realised that the wheels weren't turning. I. Ust give the old thing some love, fix the door and shove some decent wheels on it, at some point - it's back in the attic now.

I too use paper etc, to do bigger masking jobs. Nice job, any way to put the engine cover on a hinge instead of double side? Would look so cool 😁 i guess it could be in the way or undoing the nut 😅. Great job, nice rust. Ammunation!!! Gta player? Me too! Good job on the interior, simple but makes a big impacting when watching it drive. Great scenery to drive and film against, looks properly scale, and you even put trucks in the background that you passed!!! NiCe effort!! 🤣his forward rollover was hilarious on the rocks. He picked up a caravan! What a cool surprise. 😵gloryhole theme park 🤣🤣🤣

Hey, Rex - "I'm so glad that you noticed the GTA references. Rusty Brown's Ring Donuts ("I just like the batter - all over my face") & the Gloryhole theme park refer to commercials you hear on the radio while driving in Vice City and San Andreas. I don't know why I didn't think of using a hinge and a magnet for the engine cover. I have both, right here. If I ever have to remove the interior in the future, I'll do that mod as I replace it.

Hi Del, I'm so pleased you did a video covering how you achieved this lovely shell. Fascinating. I'm aware of the salt technique as I've seen it done on static 1/35th scale tanks, but as it turns out it work out equally well on 1/10th scale RC's too. I'm tempted to give this a go on one of my own crawlers. It's a massive improvement on the box art. Thats a cool caravan too, that goes really well with the Unimog - I assume it's scratch built ? It will be a pleasure to see how ( after your ESC and tyre improvements ) how this runs on the terrain in this video. Look forward to that one...👍🏻🙂.

You sussed it - I originally found the salt technique on 1:35 tank videos! I nip into the kitchen and pinch a bit of my wife's posh Himalayan rock salt, and also use ordinary table salt at the same time. The caravan got its own build video on my channel, but it was, ages ago. I'm sure a YT search worded "Del350K4 caravan" would dig it up.
