They were headed for the USA warehouse. Instead of shipping each guitar from China direct to each customer in the USA, the Chinese company secures a warehouse in the USA then sends a bulk shipment from China to that warehouse to get the cost of shipping (per item) down very low. Then, when an American customer buys the guitar it is sent from that warehouse in the USA to the customer in the USA. I work in electronics and this system is very common with Chinese manufacturers.

This strikes me as odd, bc China has some crazy low shipping prices to the US through some agreement. So when they ship a guitar from China to someone’s house in the US, it might only cost them $10-20; whereas shipping within the US can be $60-160 depending how far it’s going. That said, I think you’re still right. These guitars were likely being sent to a US warehouse, to set up a distribution network within the US, as people trust US based sellers over ordering from overseas directly. I also wonder if fear of high tariffs on imported goods caused them to ship as many to the US as possible before Jan 20, to avoid tariffs that would raise the cost for the customer, and they could lose sales. Could make sense.

Yeah, sorry. That's not a good argument either. I bought myself a $50 Squier Strat 5 years ago and taught myself tech skills and learned how to buy, sell, and service guitars. Over the last 4 years, I have accumulated a room full of guitars that include 3 Gibson Les Pauls and have not spent one dime out of my household money for them. My Les Paul Studio w/P90s was $650 used - and its like brand new. It takes patience and some hard work for those of us not blessed with extra money laying around, but Gibsons are not unattainable by any stretch.

I'm very glad that these guitars were seized. If a musician just wants a cheaper Gibson they can buy an import guitar without the Gibson name. These guitars are known to have dangerous chemicals in the paint or components which means they just aren't especially great to pass on, unless they pay for them to be tested. I watched a KZbin a few years ago where they got someone to do tests on paint and hardware, there was something with the chrome carenogenic unacceptable levels and lead and something in the paint

I have a real 1970s LP Deluxe and I love my China versions just as much. They play better when I fix the fretwork and replace a few parts plus the finish will never crack as it is Poly and the necks are sturdier arguably they have 24 fret LP versions and still offer the no heel neck option unlike Gibson. I have taken them both to Guitar stores and no matter the China or the real Deluxe people are looking and checking things out. They all sound great as well once I am done modding them. All great guitar players swapped tuners, pickups, bridges, pots, switches and everything else until they dialed in the guitar just like they wanted including my Deluxe. Why knock China guitars when I do the same thing for less money and get a better product/tool?

The point is not where they are made, its that they are made with another guitar brands logo. That's copyright theft plain and simple - it has nothing to do with build quality.

Here’s one issue I have with the Chinese online guitar market. Not every building is there to rip people off. You have to do your homework but every now and then you’ll come across an independent builder who legitimately builds their own creations. For instance, one maker builds their own brand on AliExpress but also builds to order for another brand for the local Philippine market. They’re still cheaper guitars but they’re not rip offs. But they can get harder to find because of all the rip off garbage.

Aliexpress or some of the big Aliexpress guitar manufaturers have warehouses on the west coast of the US. A lot of guitars on Aliexpress are marked as "in stock in the US warehouse" or somesuch. Chances are they just raided this warehouse.

Gibson has sent out those threats to everyone from Heritage to PRS. The only time they had success was with Dean and even that got overturned on appeal. The US need to sort out their legal precedent because if the grift guitars are too close despite being less accurate than something like the Heritage guitars then Fender should be able to go after body shapes as well.

Well, yes it's off. Maybe we just have not heard about large siezures happening. More likely, in my opinion, Trump oddly getting into marketing these things (who the F told him that was a good idea, anyway? A democrat mole?) triggered a (politically adversarial person) , setting off an angry call to action over "these counterfeits from overseas", and a call to Gibson to rile up their legal department, specifically because Trump was involved. This actually happens often, this is just the biggest one on record. This happens with purses all the time too. I have actually seen customs and fed officers crash a flea market before. They dropped everyone in 4 booths to the floor and took them all out in handcuffs. Then loaded boxes of fake purses onto a truck and off they went. It was crazy.

I understand that any copy with a Gibson logo fraudulently infringes Gibson's Trade mark, as does the trademarked(?) 'open book' headstock end, but what else of Gibson's LP design, if anything is legally protected? Any patents on the original LP will have long expired, and LP copies seem to be legally sold widely, under other brand names. I don't see that Trump is infringing any Gibson IP. And they look so cheap and awful, no-one would mistake them for a Gibson.

Absolutely!, and for a fraction of the price.👌 I have a Chibson with a beautiful flame top Cherry burst, I upgraded all the hardware (Alnico V, Klusson Tuners, 500k pots), set up to the minimal action possible and it now plays and sound like a dream, all for $340 (upgrades included). Gibson will charge you $5,000 for a Standard Re-Issue and the Chibson beats it especially in the "tuning" department. $5,000 could buy you 7 or more Chibsons plus all the best gear you need.

It's great that before the crackdown, I've already purchased 2 amazing Chibsons: 1 Buckethead Les Paul with Ebony fretboard, Grover Tuners that looks 99% exactly like the original. Being sold $12,000 on Reverb 2nd hand, got it for just $280. While 1959 HoneyBurst is sold for $8,500 used, but got a really beautiful very similar 1959 burst for just $260.🤭 Thank God I did not get scammed by the overpriced, very expensive "original" one that doesn't stays in tune especially the G-string.😂 Sad to say this- but Chibson's is actually an upgrade for a much lower reasonable price. Same pristine Mahogany wood used.🤘 Chibson FTW!🔥

Chibsons are rubbish that only look good from a distance. They are made with the cheapest wood and the cheapest parts. They will never have any real value because not only are they rubbish, they are also counterfeit. You bought them for $280 and $260 so you way overpaid for them. @@stuartconway6946 sorry man, I beg to disagree about the "cheapest wood" thing - this is a real story with no BS: i brought it to a professional luthier for full set-up. But In my mind I have this experiment or "prank", that I will never reveal it was a Chibson. The funny thing is before the set-up he actually did not realize its a Chibson, He even said he will be very careful not to ding or scratch it because it's a "Beautiful 1959" from his own words. Only after the set-up he realize it's a Chibson because the parts like "tuners, pots and pick-ups" are not that great - Now I upgraded them all to real Gibson hardwares, so you are right about the "cheapest parts". But the wood and finish, the luthier said it was indeed a premium mahogany and I know it because it's very resonant even if it's played unplugged or acoustically. I also have compared it side by side to a very expensive $8,000 Murphy Lab Sunburst 1959 on the shop. It's about 99% identical - the only difference is the finish (Gibson - Nitro) (Chibson - Polyurethane) and the neck tilt angle of the Gibson is deeper, the Chibson's neck tilt is slightly straight, it's an upgrade to a flawed design and never goes out of tune. - that's what I love the most about it (staying in tune) and the "purist" hate it because the design flaws are necessary to stay true to the original vibe. The lesson is: Chibson's need to be upgraded and full set-up is a must, after that it plays so good, if the luthier does a great fretwork, it will playe even better than the Gibson. I will NEVER sell it, - I used it for jamming, all my friends love it AFTER the set-up especially the Buckethead - the killswitches and the Ebony 24 frets is just spectacular (It's phased out, Gibson wont make them anymore.) - Gladly Chibson still creating one. And I will never ever sell it, - I won't even convince or endorse anybody to "buy a Chibson". It's a personal trade "Secret." - A great value for a fraction of the price only for "personal use."🔥 Apologies for the long post mate, I wrote it to clear the confusion and misinformation so that others might read and know the FACTS coming from a very satisfied and happy Chibson owner. - FULL Set-Up and upgrade is Key! Here's what is sad about the whole thing. I have never owned one, but I have seen plenty of videos on them where buyers claim that they are decent if not even really good especially for the money - but the manufacturers wont put their own name on them because they wont sell without the Gibson, Fender, PRS, etc. logo on them. And whats even more ironic is that a lot of people refuse to buy an off-brand made in China budget guitar, but if the Chinese factory puts the Gibson name on the same guitar, those same people will buy it.

His guitar was a one-off specifically for Slash that eventually became part of the Gibson line through the normal process of business. Dont think for one second that Gibson wasnt involved (or at the very least aware) along the way - just because they didnt build it doesnt mean they were blind to the situation. Your argument is apples to oranges and the same tired, boring argument that all the supporters of stolen copyrights make. I hope you never have the experience of going through the process of getting something patented and to market, only to find that your work, dedication, sweat and investment is copied by a manufacturer in China as a junk knock-off for less than half the price. you are absolutely right!. The mahogany body wood is the same material that both Gibson and Chibson are made of. Maybe it's around $100 to $150. The only difference is the hardwares like pickups, tuners and bridge which is the only Gibson advantage. The finished guitar should should only cost around $200 to $250 yet Gibson is like ripping off your hard earned money by selling it to you at an overpriced rate: $4,000+ on "Standard" models, $5,000 to $8,000 on "Custom" and $7,000 to $20,000 on Custom Shop, re-issue's and Murphy Labs.😂 That's why it's way better to go directly to the Chibson "factory", they will give you the fair price.🤭
