Gibson Es-175 vs Aria PE-180 multi test

Here's a short test of the following:
Gibson ES-175 '89, mahagony back/sides
Aria PE-180 '77 Matsumoku
both guitars with Thomastik Jazz .12 strings
both recorded with AKG C1000 condenser microphone
The amps are a stock Princeton 65 re-issue Limited Brown/Sunburst with Celestion G10 speaker and a Princeton 65 re-issue Limited White/Blue, Jensen P10R replaced with a Eminence Lil Bud speaker.
The third test is a amp test - I've used the 175 because it's very popular and everyone knows its sound.
Which combination do you like most?

Dude-these are the best made comparison videos I have yet to see!! I will tell you why if you don't mind. The brain/ears cant distinguish or make a fare comparison between two sources if there are more than say 10 seconds of each source. That's not conjecture-it's facts supported from brain research. So when you see comparisons with endless playing on one instrument or amp before switching to the next instrument we can't remember the original source. Furthermore, you have to compare the exact musical passage/mic/amp/pic , everything. This is seldom done on youtube. YOu picked a tune that had lots of repitition so that 5 seconds of a particular passage was repeated, thats when you switched instrument. That was smart!! Keep up the good work.

Yeah it seems to have more high end, the 175 is very mid-focused

I just bought the Aria Pro Ce 180 in excellent condition for $850 from a Vegas Pawn Shop through Reverb. I have 30 guiars, 5 Martins (high end) 3 Taylors acoustic etc.. but the Aria is by far the easiest to play and I can't put it down. I am 73 and know a jewell when I see it. I was ready to drop $7,000 of the ES 175..so glad I didn't..the Aria is 47 years old and looks as good as my PRS Hollow Body.. perfect finish still

I loved the 175 with the PR Brown, but they're all great sounds. The Aria seems like a wonderful instrument too.

The Aria sounds slightly thicker, the Gibson a bit more transparant on the first amp, but it seems to be reversed on the second amp, that's strange...

Great comparison video, but I feel that a Gibson L5 would be more interesting because the Aria Pro II PE180 is a copy of that model.

@@manuelfraiman5534 now i see, right, my mistake...i though that he said that L-5 is n the video instead of ES-175.. Yes, comparing it with L-5 or SUPER 400 CES, or even SUPER v would make much more sense, because Aria is a copy of it actually. On the other side, these Gbsons i named maded from a solid top, back and sides, Aria is laminated as i know.Cheers.
