This news came as quite a shock to me. I think this is a great move on Gibson's part as Mark has quite the following on Social Media as well as experience with the brands history, but will this be the beginning of the end for Norm's Guitar of the Day series? Who would you like to see as the new host?

The Trogly's Guitar Show Joe Bonamassa, because he really knows alot about vintage guitars, but he’s probably too busy. Seems like things are happening under new leadership. my first Gibson had the bridge tone knob put on crooked and finish cracking around the neck joint. you would expect an old mayor company like Gibson to know how to put a guitar together. Maybe things will improve now.

Lemmo has his own thing going on outside Norm’s and you can’t do this if you’re the manager at Norm’s. I think everyone gets tunnel vision and assumes Mark just does “guitar of the day”, but that’s just a very small part of the job. If you think of a pie chart, 10% of Norms rare guitar store manager job is “guitar of the day”. If Norm was serious about this, he won’t be able to replace Mark with one person. He needs to hire someone to just do the manager part and someone to just do the “guitar of day” part.

@@OzziePete1 Of course Norm will be more concerned with the store than a KZbin show. There's a million guys who have done or are doing something similar to GOTD. The big draw for GOD was obviously Norm's has an endless supply of high end vintage guitars. My first gibson was a 2008 Les Paul traditional (which i bought in 2008 and still own) when the Traditional first came out. My second gibson was a 2007 custom shop 1960 les paul reissue G0 (the guitar center R0) which i purchased yesterday. My experience with the reissue is that there is a significant difference in playability and sound. The guitar just feels more solid and everywhere my hand is placed on the instrument feels right. I will never purchase a USA model ever again. I cannot go back to standard production line model when i know what is possible if i save a little more cash. So to me any change that Gibson makes to bring their USA brand closer to the reissue series the better. Everyone should be able to experience the workmanship of the custom shop. I will admit that my traditional has a chunkier 50s rounded neck, 57 classic pickups so this could have something to do with the sound difference. My reissue has burstbuckers and a slim taper 60s neck so this could definetly have some effect on why the reissue feels more clear and bright. Ive heard burstbuckers are brighter generall and if thats true ima swap out for burstbuckers on my traditional LP and my SG for that matter. The reissue feels like i own a "true" Gibson.

I think Norm knows enough people that replacing Mark will be an easy task. And not saying that so as not to hurt his feelings. As far as my interests in the series, the most important part the host has is playing the guitar very well. After all the show is about the guitar. There is nothing like hearing a beautiful vintage collectable in the hands of a great guitarist through a great amp. We can never get the full experience over the tube through phone or even studio speakers as hearing it live, so the recording needs to be done as top notch as possible also. Knowing the History of all those old classic collectables and being able to briefly bring those that don't more current is also a must. Having one person that can do it all is cool, yet if there is a writer, a narrator and a player, that would be fine with me. Like one store I watch, they frequently have one guy talk then turn it over to a selected player. But it's mostly about the equipment for me and seeing and hearing it in HD played by a top notch player.

Got a question for you Austin. What is up with that gold top Deluxe in the video? Normally the surrounds are for mini-hums, which are there. @Trog5 жыл бұрын
They are now usually referred to as 'goof hiders' and yes, they were stock on some early 70s Gibsons. Basically, if Gibson made a boo-boo during manufacturing, they would just cover them up by nailing a bit of plastic over it. I think the hiring of Mark Agnesi by Gibson is kind of a stroke of genius. He's young enough to still understand what younger customers want and still a "veteran" to know what that vintage feel and sound is all about. I don't know what his role in the company will be, but I'm hoping it involves some kind of impact on entry level guitars and lowering the number of the R8 R9 etc, custom shop, and M2M Les Pauls. Personally I think they've saturated the market for the past 20 years and honestly, it's confusing and extremely expensive. As far as guitar of the day, I'll check it out and see how I like it. I would hope whomever takes over doesn't try to imitate or even try to do it the same way or same style as Mark and make it their own.

I've learned a lot over the years from Mark. I've seen every GOTD episode. He's going be great for Gibson - if they let him play a creative role in the company that has a direct effect on non pro customers. If it's just catering to and providing instruments for the pros, then nobody's gonna care.

First of all thank you very much for clearing up what happened to him because he sure isn’t telling us 😩 Second I hope Norm picks somebody off the street who really needs the job, third super glad to hear Mark is going to Gibson and yes they are making awesome decisions these days let’s hope they keep up the good work

John Bollinger seems like the perfect fit. Plenty of knowledge, time with the stars, great chops and a very likeable person much like Mark. Time to leave Iowa. :)

Road Dog Never really crossed my mind, but you’re right on the money here. Love John Bollinger and he’s been around for a while and toured with great musicians and definitely will be someone that I vouch for him to take over, but being a Nashville based musician, it might be hard to relocate to LA

That’s an excellent idea!

What does bollinger do besides being the best part of premier guitar?
@roaddog75425 жыл бұрын
Does he need to be anything else other than great at networking and social media? Mark's managing skills aren't what pulled viewers to NRG, put them on the YT map and sold plenty of those GOTD's. Gibson grabbed Mark because these days having a great front man (or woman) can grow your business more than traditional advertising. Making out employee schedules, placing orders and counting beans in a back office can be another's job.

Lemmo is killing it, but I can't see him managing the shop. That young man is going to be on the road showing off his guitar skills! He is truly an excellent guitarist!

Makes total sense for Gibson, he has brand experience and real-world experience as well as name recognition. I will miss guitar of the day as I don't think it will be the same without Mark.............. Norm has invested a considerable part of his life training Mark, this is a big loss for Norm's Rare Guitars. For Mark I would imagine this is a dream job, can't blame him at all, so congrats to Mark. In the end Norm's will continue on and Gibson looks to be making great strides in repairing decades of mismanagement . I think/hope to see great things for Gibson, fingers-crossed that they continue their upward trajectory.

This is some of the best news I've heard from gibson in the past year

Yeah, hiring Mark was a very smart move on Gibson's part, he'll be their personal Bullshit detector, he knows what a proper Gibson should be like and hopefully will keep Gibson away from releasing guitars that nobody wants to have (Firebird X anybody?) And yes, I'll continue watching guitar of the day, it's so much fun.

They should get Li'l Wayne or that Jonas bro.

Trogly, I also think you should do it. You are business savvy, you buy and sell guitars yourself, and you are good at it. You have charisma, and that can't be taught or bought. You have a wonderful soft voice, just like Mark does. Don't sell yourself short and don't be scared of people hating you if you replaced Mark, people would understand. Just be you. But whatever happens, I am sure you and Norm will manage fine, you're both too big of a name to not be.

@The Trogly's Guitar Show Hey your channel is great, and some thoughts came to mind as I came upon this vid I missed previously. Regarding the "Guitar of the Day," he hired Michael Lemmo, who had been coming by the store for a while and has been featured playing guitar in several videos on that channel. I was curious what you thought so far, and if you knew who the new store manager is?

It feels weird to think mark is just going to be gone. I feel bad for norm cause he’s going to be on a major hunt for someone who can fill marks spot. In any case I think Joel from the Chicago music exchange would be interesting to see in marks spot.

Damn I’m gonna miss Mark, but I’m very happy for him. I’ve been watching gotd everyday for the past two years and I don’t think I ever missed an episode. Finding someone likable to replace Mark is gonna be extremely hard. I hope they can pull it off.
