I met Mark when he was working at Norm's in LA. He was a thoroughly nice guy, and had plenty of time for me as a Brit just browsing and looking to buy a shirt and whatnot. There were plenty of business guys in the store looking at vintage guitars for tens of thousands of dollars, but he didn't even glance at them. But the ten year old kid who came in with his dad looking for an affordable guitar? Couldn't do enough. Bringing over guitars, complementing his playing, being supportive and talking about his music tastes. In the end the kid decided on a sweet little Danelectro for a couple of hundred dollars, and Mark was really happy for him and he certainly wasn't pushing big budget guitars. My point is that although Gibson have made some really awful mistakes in recent years and yes, Mark has recently been a part of some of that marketing, he himself is a good guy and not the complete asshole people are making him out to be.

I agree. I don’t dislike Mark, he’s doing a job to feed his family and when he took the Gibson gig it appeared that they were really turning a corner into a new Golden Age where they listened to their customer’s wants and improved quality while reducing prices. I really think there’s no way he thought he would be made to be the mean face of the shit show that their PR nightmare has become. Who would uproot their family to step into that job knowing up front you’d be the most hated man in the industry right after you show up? But now that he’s there, I bet it isn’t the dream he thought it would be. Then again, I could be wrong and he’s a prick that stepped in the door just to play the bad guy, who knows? 🤷🏼♂️ Either way, Gibson isn’t getting a dime from me till they stop the bullshit.

I've met him and Norm a few times. They were perfectly polite and professional. I definitely liked Mark better than Norm. Hopefully Gibson is for real with this rebranding because they have REALLY fucked up over the last 15 years. When I heard they hired Mark, I felt just a little bit less skeptical. It told me that just maaaaaybe they actually do give a shit about turning things around and respecting their legacy. We shall see. :)

For a rather small dude, he has a pretty big mouth (behind your back, of course). Michael Lemmo (the gentleman who took over Mark’s “Guitar Of The Day” duties at Norman’s Rare Guitars) is not only a far better guitar player, but the general consensus amongst us who visit the store frequently, is that Lemmo is just a better all-around human being than Agnesi.

Wait until you try to sell a subpar gibson used....then you'll really find the bank busted. Some of the standards that gibson wanted $3500 for are selling used for $1700 on ebay. In perfect shape. I just sold a signature T les paul that I bought pretty well (used), still took a $300 loss on it. Most of the used gibson guitars that I find need some kind of work. Bought a bunch of collings, too, 8-12 years old. None of them has needed any work except one where a guy filed the nut slots (the prior owner) without knowing what he was doing. Hardly their fault. The way gibson operates is appalling, and there's no reason it should be that way. None.

Internet trollers and anti Gibson fanatics alike were all over Gibby and Mark with his failed attempt video over patents and trademarks . Whether you like him or not , his career in this industry is a bit of a success story .. goes from an iconic shop to the most iconic brand . But alas my fellow “ fretters” , he was the fall guy for a bad management decision. Lest we forget the era of law suit guitars protecting patents and trademarks with some astonishingly great quality blatant knock offs out of Japan , and now above market pricing .. Tokai as an example ... there are laws of value and brand at stake here .. the people upset with Gibson were actual players and retailers ... they shit the bed and ousted Henry . It’s been less than a year since JC Curleigh running the show ... 2019 product line is promising , their QC has improved , and there is value to be found in the secondary and used market places on used LP’s etc . Some of us had to sell our souls , save and finance to own one ... and we didn’t drink the kookaid . You find the right fiddle , feel it , play it , set it up , and it’s right . It’s not an Eastman , it’s not a Epi and it’s not Esp. Like everyone out here ... the haters and the trollers can’t respect brand and the legacy . And the genius out here who said , real and new artists aren’t even playing them . Do your homework and research . Auto tune singers , session musicians , and great singers with an acoustic and a looper cannot trade blows or sit in the same ring with the artists who still perform live with 4-5 Gibson’s in their rack on stage . I’m talking artists ... no need to name drop . The millennials and gen Z’ers who are caught up in pop music bands and artists whose music ten years from now will be as “ classic “ as the 1976 exploding Ford Pinto . Smarten up mates ... I’m not trashing the value price guitars and brands ... but I struggle to listen to the apples and oranges analogies here . Too many people watching and listening via KZbin a epi LP VS a Gibson ..” yeah the epi sounds better . Go sit in a music shop with a tube amp and run the gamut of tone settings and voicing , then compare quality feel , electronics instead of listening from a laptop or iPhone casting judgment .

What do you mean with 'Gibson made him do that video'? They held a gun against his head? They've threatened his family? In that case Gibson is far worse of a company than one would imagine... If not, stop pretending that Mark didn't have any agency and that he didn't willingly go through it-and consequently deserves the same amount of backlash as Gibson themselves.

Andertons aren't going to pan Mark.....they have millions of £s of Gibson's to sell. Sometimes I think people forget that this is a shop!
@vladsnape64085 жыл бұрын
It is valid to criticise Andertons for producing this video, asking easy questions and not addressing the big elephant in the room - they could (and should) have said no, although Gibson probably put a lot of pressure on them to do this video.

Gibson published a sorry/not sorry press release following the “Play Authentic” fiasco. They needed to be authenticate and say “guys, we fuck3d up. Sorry. Seriously. Sorry.” And then we could all move on. Then the dislikes and internet hate would largely just fade away. This video, given the exposure of this channel, would have been a great opportunity to say something that sounded sincere. Nope. C’mon Gibson.

It's unfortunate Mark has become the "wack-a-mole" for this Company. I'm sure that after moving his family from the west to the east coast, .. packing up and leaving for something "better' for him and his family are not a realistic option. I wish him luck, and peace. It's my guess that his employer probably has the same amount of empathy for him as they have for their customer base.. None.
