Here's a thought ... while you've got all those LP bursts hanging next to eachother on the wall, do a quick flyby camera shot and mention the name of each burst. We're all pretty used to seeing isolated photos of individual guitars, but it's not that often they're all lined up in one shot through the same camera and lighting for side by side comparison.

I really like the new Studios, but I think that they’re not really meant to be a pricey off-the-shelf guitars that they’re now, but rather a pawn shop find that plays just as good as any 2000-20000$ Les Paul, yet only costs small part of their price. TBF I am biased on this, since I’ve never bought a brand new guitar, but when you’re looking for a new guitar and compare a 800-1000$ 2010 Studio in Wine Red, and new 1700$+tax Studio in Wine Red, the only difference you’ll find is that old one has few dings/scratches and a proper set-up.

That’s very light, even for the weight relieved models. Where individual weights are listed, such as Sweetwater, the average was about 8.5 pounds, with quite a few being 9. Mine is a ‘22 model, and it’s 8.5. Great guitar, and I got lucky with a top that has better flame than many of the high-end models I’ve seen. But mine is cherry burst. It’s rather striking, because the center of the burst isn’t yellow-ish the way most are, but natural maple. I’ll probably keep it forever.

Good for you! The 90s studio's with ebony fretboards are pretty rare and are becoming somewhat collectible these days. Also, no print circuit board, coil splitting, ultra modern weight relief or other shenanigans on these older ones. I also prefer the old style Gibson Deluxe tuners on these over the kidney shaped chrome ones on the recent models. I own a 1994 Studio Gold in ebony finish, which I bought brand new at the time. Mine has a rosewood fretboard but that rosewood is of a beautiful quality. I also like the gold hardware on mine, combined with the ebony finish it makes the guitar look really classy. i remember taking it home from the shop and it was immaculate, the finish, set up, just a beautiful instrument, almost three decades later it has a little wear here and there, but it still looks the part and I'm still somewhat in love with it. At the time I really wanted the Standard but I couldn't afford one, nowadays it wouldn't hit a dent in my budget, but even though the Standard is a gorgeous looking and sounding instrument, I frankly don't feel the need anymore.

Another difference between coil tapping and splitting is the tap style remains a humbucker, which is a thing worth considering. Pros and cons but it should be an informed decision. I have a wine red Studio, this sunburst finish model looks great! I like red guitars but if this was available when I bought mine I might've gone for it. One inobvious advantage of the non-bound LP body is that the subtle roundover edge makes these more comfortable against your body and forearm. Makes a surprising difference.

Gibson might call this a coil "tap", but it's not. The pickups are split, but on the circuit board there's a capacitor that the shunted coil drains through which allows the low frequencies to short to ground, but blocks the higher frequencies. The result is a little less bass when split, but that's about it. You can easily bypass this by soldering a piece of wire in parallel with the caps, which I did on my 2012 Studio, which gives you a true coil split, just like you're getting on the Epi.

@BudgetRC_Channel

@@maraviyoso8473 no. A tap is when a certain part if the winding is brought out like you see in the output transformer of a tube amp. One winding with "taps" off of it. In a coil split, it's just where the two individual coils in a humbucker join.

I've owned (2) Gibson Les Paul studios in the 90's. One I put an EMG 81 and 89 (splitable pick up used as the neck pick up) in and the second I left stock...Good guitars but a bitch to keep in tune without lockers on the tuning pegs. I bought a new Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro in KOA 6 months ago and its absolutely amazing for just about half the price. The Epi has 7 layer binding on the body and 5 layer binding on the head stock. The EPI has split coils and phase inverter. The Epi has block in lays from the first fret on down the neck...After a professional set up the Epi consistly stays in tune without locking tuners. The Gibson studios cost $1,300 to $1,500 dollars where I live now and I bought the Epi Les Paul Custom Pro for around 800.00 with a gig bag, pack of new strings, strap, and picks. The Epi Les Paul Custom Pro with the Probuckers 2 and 3, better neck shape, and better sound is clearly the winner for me for just about 1/2 the price out the door...Shoot the new Epi's Prophecy with cut away body and the Fishman pick-ups are better than the Gibson Les Paul Studio and are still cheaper than it...

Since ppl like to knock Epiphone which is a good guitar. Here's how to save money. Buy the Epiphone LP studio, buy the 490 p/ups that aren't coil split. Swap em out and voila, you got a lp studio that sounds as good as the Gibson w/o payiny the high price. If you're in it for investment purposes, buy the Gibson. After all, the sound is from the electronics depending how cheap or expensive they are. It has nothing to do with the wood quality.

I always found the tributes to look better. Although The studios models are above the tributes, the ugly finishes of the studios makes the tributes look better.

I've got a "worn white" 50's Tribute which is a satin distressed finish from the factory. I bought it off eBay several years ago for $580. The rosewood board looks almost black. Plays like a freaking dream but I'm a Strat guy & I love the custom one I put together about 15 years ago. It's a case queen but so is the Tribute

The nitro marketing lie! If having a 'breathable finish' on a guitar made it 'potentially more resonant', then guitar players would demand guitars with no finish, not a guitar that 'potentially gets more resonant as it gets older'. I do wish people wouldn't perpetuate this marketing lie because it makes them look dumb. The only thing that nitro does is provide Gibson with a marketing angle for people who still wish it was the '50s. Gibson make their nitro smell of vanilla - in order to get you to buy the guitar (I know as I have one). When you buy it, it already has more scratches on it than a poly finish - because it's a softer material. After that, it scratches, cracks, checks, fades/discolours, absorbs bad smells and comes off completely. If this makes you feel like you're in the 50s/60s/70s, then cool - just don't pretend to yourself that it affects tone or makes your guitar more special. It's just marketing history.

For the price difference, get a Tribute, same specs without coil split ... and I mean THE SAME, coil split is not worth 600$ CAD.

I held my tongue on that Epiphone Studio video because I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. But I immediately hear the difference between the 2. It's not even close. That Epiphone Studio might be the blandest guitar I've seen on KZbin! Wow. Totally boring. The Gibson has a noticable jump in tone. I really enjoy the Epiphone with the Carribean fade. I forget the name. So I don't hate Epiphone at all! Just that Studio which was bland and lame. This one 👍

Les Paul Studios were priced at $800 new just a few years ago. Now just like all Gibsons they are now grossly overpriced with a price double what they should be. Coil tap instead of coil split? Don’t bother. Coil tap is still a humbucker not a single coil. Beautiful guitar but not even close to worth the asking price. It’s unfortunate but I don’t even consider Gibson guitars anymore. I go for the knockoffs now. Wolf makes a fantastic Les Paul.

I agree on the price thing but I would like to have a Gibson someday. I'm a bassist I sprung for a RIC 4003 recently and I'm not sad that I bought it . I'm just wondering if its better to just take the plunge and buy a LP std or get a classic and save some cash.

@@michaelblaney4461 honestly dude get a Godin. It'll be a way better playing experience than a Les Paul studio. Don't get me wrong, I love my Gibson. But objectively speaking it doesn't get anywhere near my Godin in terms of playability. The godin just feels like a modern, well made instrument. And again, love my Gibson but Godin makes them as they're supposed to be at this point.

You can upgrade your Epiphone to Gibson spec minus the nitro finish, fretboard, and you can literally overcome these "top 5 reasons" and still be within your budget. These sound like marketing reasons. Keep your guitar and play it forever.

Sorry, but all of those reasons to buy the Gibson just dont hold water anymore in 2022. Especially when you can buy a Harley Benton, Firefly, or Vintage, for a fraction of the price. These days, Gibson are trading soley on their legacy. Anyone who thinks American made guitars are inherantly better than Korean or Indonesian made guitars, JUST because they are made in "Murica" is deluded.
