Wow, has Gibson finally begun building split-coil pickups that sound substantial? I started out liking the sound of their split-coil pickups before discovering that they were thin-sounding. I’ve said frequently below episodes of The Trogly’s Guitar Show (under my real name) how Gibson (and Epiphone) needed to study the versions of coil tapping by Ibanez, Godin, Schecter, Fender, Ernie Ball, PRS and others on the subject of creating coil-split pickups that deactivate one coil without choking the other. This Victory reissue sounds much closer to the mark.

My Epiphone Koa Top Les Paul Custom is awesome! Before I purchased it I played it back to back with the Gibson equivalent. Couldn't tell the difference. An experienced guitar player could tell the difference in the pickups. The Pro Buckers sound different but, THEY SOUND GREAT! If you wanted to, you could install the Burstbuckers and have the exact tones for a fraction of the price! But, what do I know. I have only been playing since 1963.

In the 50ies the Fender bridges had individually adjustable saddles, and in 2024 Gibson is still behind
@peachmelba10003 ай бұрын
Tune-o-matic style bridges have individually height compensated saddles matched to the fretboard radius. The bridge height is adjusted from under the bridge. The saddles on Fender style bridges allow for the same radius matching as well as height adjustment in one.
@maxduke19433 ай бұрын
@@peachmelba1000 So you never needed to adjust one string's height , without wanting to move all the others.
@peachmelba10003 ай бұрын
@maxduke1943 The only time that would be an issue on a guitar with a tune-o-matic is if the fretboard was re-radiused. On a Fender style bridge, if you're adjusting a single string out of the plane of the fretboard radius, it's going to be an uncomfortable/ very unconventional setup.
@maxduke19433 ай бұрын
@@peachmelba1000 Happens that one string is buzzing so you want to adjust only that. To me happens with the 3rd string and the action of the 1st and 6th are already okay/high. It must be a neck issue. With an adjustable saddle you can resolve it easily, if not you must take the guitar to a luthier - who may eventually suggest you to buy a new bridge with adjustable saddles - and not everyone has a luthier nearby.

It's Epiphone..not gibson..That's absolutely correct! Les Paul's vision for a solid-body electric guitar began taking shape with "The Log" in 1939-1941, in collaboration with Epiphone. "The Log" was essentially a 4x4 pine post with a neck and homemade pickups. Les Paul's experimentation with "The Log" led to refinement and eventual partnership with Gibson Guitars. Gibson's Ted McCarty, influenced by Les Paul's design, created the iconic Gibson Les Paul model in 1952. Key milestones: 1. 1939-1941: Les Paul and Epiphone develop "The Log." 2. 1941: Les Paul showcases "The Log" to Gibson, but they initially reject the idea. 3. 1952: Gibson, inspired by Les Paul's design, releases the first Gibson Les Paul model. Your contribution highlights the significance of Les Paul's pioneering work and the evolution of the solid-body electric guitar! Would you like more information on guitar innovation or Les Paul's legacy?

Im a big fan of the original Victory. Its biggest downfalls were the small frets, maple body and weak humbuckers. When I heard they were reissuing this guitar I got really excited. Sound and playibility are now there, especially with 24 big frets and hot humbuckers, satin neck and the push pulls/switches. I have to say though I am really dissapointed that they changed the beautiful scroll head stock for the explorer shape. And though it is subtle, the shrinking of the pickgaurd also changes the look of this guitar drastically and I believe its why so many people who may have never been familiar with this model are saying it looks like a PRS. In a black finish i dont think it would bother me as much but from what ive seen, they are not even offering a ebony finish.

I remember the originals from 1981. Great idea in theory, but the one I tried didn’t do it for me. The single-coil sounds weren’t very good. This new one, I’m hoping could be better-but I couldn’t tell from the video. I would have liked to have heard more clean playing, with a little more treble on the EQ, but all your demos sound darker than what I would use. That’s why they put tone controls on amps, right? The guitar looks fine; it’s nicer-looking than the ‘80s ones. I’m not crazy about the Explorer headstock, but it’s not a deal breaker as long as the guitar sounds good. I really like the idea of selecting which piickup coil is active in single-coil mode-I had a 24-fret 2-humbucker guitar wired that way with a 3-position mini-switch for each pickup, and that was the key to getting a Strat-like sound without having a middle pickup on that guitar. (It was a Carvin AE-185.) I like that Gibson’s doing that with fewer switches. I’ll have to try one of these new Victorys. They’re a bit pricey, but what isn’t these days!

Thorough 2024 Victory demo thanks! A Gibson that resonates is unbeatable. Are these "80s Tribute Humbuckers' ceramic or alnico5 in your opinion, sound alnico to me? It has a beautiful sustain. Is it a nitro finish? Different scale length to a Les Paul? I would modify to get coil split only on the neck. So you can have riffing on a single single coil. And then kick in a humbucker for lead. Then to get some air in the humbucker to dial in the single coiled neck pickup.
