You can't go wrong with Vibram! After I bought my first pair of boots with Vibram soles, I won't buy shoes without it.

The midsoles in all of those shoes are what provide the cushion and all of them had cushion midsoles. What the midsoles are made of is important. EVA loses its cushion or most of it in 3-6 months. Now, they’re using polyurethane more which doesn’t lose cushion that much, but if it’s not stored properly will break down or delaminate.

Gotta give it to you, you know your stuff, been a fan for a long time and take your reviews and recommendations seriously. Took delivery of the Nova 2's and they are GREAT. Very, very comfortable - in the past I've found Vibram soles a bit harsh on my feet but these are fantastic. I need decent arch support and have slightly wide feet, these are comfortable, fitting and support my feet with no harsh or pinch points. 10/10. The only issue was having to wait for delivery from EU to UK, hold up at customs for 2 weeks. I also bought the 5.11 boots last autumn, they've coped with the UK weather of rain, snow and wind VERY well. Tough, waterproof, warm, hard wearing, comfortable, again 10/10 - 5.11 have improved their game again. Thank you, I will be investigating the other items too!

I wear that Union 6" WP in my tropical climate country, it had been el Niño summer and that thing can get really hot at about 25-30°C but it's so comfortable and good looking at the same time lmao

I will say that boots are one thing I never give or take specific (brand, model, style) advice on. It is incredibly dependent on the individual, their feet, their stride, the terrain, the climate, loading, a million things. I will point out some generalities that I learned the hard way. My feet are almost identical to what you described, right down to size 11. I never had problem until I started doing long distance over rocky, steep terrain in cheap, Big 5 Chinese wonders. I actually had both sore arches and sore insteps at one point. I figured out that, for me, the softer sole shoes just flex too much for me and sharp rocks beat up the bottom of my feet. Saw someone else on here said moccasins worked best for him. God bless him, because I’d die doing that. Cheap, soft boots feel like moccasins after about 10 miles for me and I’m out. So, if you find the same issues, I always look for a “backpacking boot” which will have a stiffer midsole than a hiking boot or some of the “sneakers” you showed. And I think those 5.11s are more tactical boots than hikers. Not that they can’t serve double duty in certain conditions, but I think there are better options. Lastly, take it from a penny pincher who never wants to spend more than $20 on shoes. In my experience, you simply can’t get a decent long distance hike/backpack boot for under $100. Usually pushing $150-$300. I hate that, but I suck it up and pay it. Maybe someone knows of a $50 unicorn, but I’ve never seen it.

You're single handedly keeping the dad shoe industry afloat 👏🏼😂 the 5.11s though look like a proper rugged boot

I’ve had good luck with Merrell light weight hikers. I’ve had the same pair for about 5 years, worn daily for the last 3 years, although used in an urban setting mostly. One problem: one upper partially split at the sole. Shoe Goo repaired it.

Hey Aaron, long time fan, I've gotten more than a few recommendations from you over the years. However I got to throw out a company that I think has been blowing away Merrell for me, and that's Altra, The lone peak 5 from Altra has 100% replaced all my merrell shoes, highly encourage you check them out, would love to see you do a review on them and reach more people. Walk by faith with the shoes of peace brother, and maybe some altras too!

I met somebody on the AT that did the whole trail in Z1s. Another hiker asked how he kept his feet warm, he said he just got up and started hiking.

A couple of my favorite brands for hiking and just do everything summer footwear is Bedrock sandals and Astral Lowyaks. Lightweight tough as nails but not bulky or anything like that
@mackjenkins77213 жыл бұрын
I can agree with you on the Bedrock sandals. They have changed my life since that is the only Footwear that will fit my foot. I have big very very wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe & Bedrock sandals are the easiest , fastest , sandal to put on that will fit my foot besides flip flops wish I have trouble putting on my foot because my foot is wider than the flip flop straps.

In the best Footwear I have ever went hiking with an 80 lb backpack, we're good old-fashioned moccasins. After 5 miles the only thing that didn't hurt where my feet, the flexible leather sole of the moccasin allowed the trail bumps to massage my feet, my feet could have went further the rest of me needed whiskey.

I'll give you an alternative, that I know you'll love & I swear by the brand & if the Ministry of Defense in the Uk has switched to the brand by default, that tells you all you need to know! They even do civilian everyday type walking shoes, which are now my everyday footwear. Vibram, lightweight and should be available everywhere that require zero breaking, straight out of the box. Have a look for the Lowa LOCARNO GTX LO GTX walking shoe. You will love them! I bought 4 pairs with my own money, so I am not being paid or was issued them. As for low military boots I use Zephyr GTX Mid boot, and if you are sensi8ble you'll get yourself a pair in the non-brown colours which will be cheaper as the British Government has now adopted the brown colour for uniform serving in the military. Brilliant boot, especially when bought at a discount! You'll love both.

I don't mind expensive Footwear as long as it lasts a long time. I really wish more people they have wider feet would make these stores order wider foot shoes. For the simple fact is if you have to buy a lynx for the whipped your shoes will blow out at the sides. In most people have wider feet than they buy shoes for. And if I can't get a wider shoe, and if I spend over 20 bucks on a pair of shoes they better last a year or longer.
@mackjenkins77213 жыл бұрын
Yes I have a big very very extremely wide foot sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my little toe and I cannot find a shoe , sock , or boot that is wide enough to fit my foot. I can find my size but can I find the width. It really sucks dealing with a footwear that your foot outgrew. Never thought I would have to live my life Barefooted 👣 style.
