I was at Lake Como around the same time! Even better: as a beginning filmmaker, i took my drones with me.. and at every place we stayed, i would take some shots with the drone and give them to the B&B owner! Just like you are telling in this video, the ‘small’ thing you do, can be something huge for someone else! Gifting this ‘small thing’ felt great and the owners were incredibly happy. This video was definitely a wake up from the scarcity mindset I was falling into. I feel a lot of us who are filmmakers full-time forget to create for creation. I have been working on my KZbin motorcycle channel for two years now. You are right about the gift of photography. My local coffee shop, in my little town tucked away in the Hawkesbury, north west of Sydney, recently celebrated 1 year of trading. I had the camera in the car. They said would you mind taking some photos. So I did and posted them on our little FB community page. And the feedback was incredible. So special. That gift to make people smile will remain with me forever.

I still do this when I can. Most of my extra work comes through my church ... choir concerts, children's events, family functions, etc. The church members love it and it keeps my skills sharp. Win-win. It's landed me some paying gigs outside the church as well but that's just a bonus. Seeing the joy it can bring to others, particularly when it's gifted to them, means so much.

i had the humble opportunity to do just this thing. A friend of my brother wanted a "one year recap" for his baby boy and his wife. When I am feeling overwhelmed as a creator, I remember back to a recent message I received from a spouse of a subscriber. His name was Roger, he was a fly fisherman and he had recently passed away. His wife reached out and thanked me; she wanted me know how much I inspired him and for her appreciation of the joy I was able to bring him in his final days. I was both heartbroken, humbled and inspired - whenever I need to find perspective, I reread her message. That is why I share my craft.

I completely agree. The coolest thing I've ever done with my photography is take pictures of my coworker's dog and the dog got sick and passed away I wasn't able to take those pictures and print them out and give them to her. And I'm so grateful that I was able to do that because we all loved that dog at my job.
