It is the only viable option for 8k gaming. And 8k is all Nvidia have mentioned regarding gaming with the 3090. Nvidia have not in any way encouraged 4k gaming with this card.

Honestly I doubt much of anyone will be doing any 8K gaming anytime soon, because even if the current cards and modern titles you're looking at console framerates. If someone cared they could have done the same thing 2 years ago with an 8K monitor and a pair of 1080tis.

@@theenhancer can confirm, i get 15-20fps on most up to date games on a aorus oc 1080ti which ends up around 150% (via user benchmark for simplicity sake), i get 40 frames on some more obscure titles but those aren't graphical intensive, bannerlord and even ck3 on highest settings get 25-30fps, there playable but you'd get performance hitches every now and then which ruin the flow of things, especially in a game like bannerlord, which bearing on mind at low settings 8k is only 40 fps, but then just play at 4k for a solid 60 ultra, sure im a random commenter with no evidence but my word, but you know, not every one is trying to lie to you

My question is, I have a gigabyte GeForce 3090 gaming OC. It has 2x 8 pin PCIe power connectors. If power in afterburner is set to max 105%, GPU z will report I'm exceeding totally TDP 375w, and each 8 pin PCIe is drawing over 150w of total rated power. 190w occasionally. So, are my PCIe connectors at the risk of failure when drawing more than 150 watts?

You have made an excellent point that other reviewers have not picked up on, and you are correct asthetics need to differ the cards and I think this card is purely for professional content creators and marketing it as Gaming is wrong, but it does at the end of it beat everything else, until 'possibly' big navi comes along!

Could the lack of performance difference be partially down to driver issues as that difference in performance especially in fs and blender rendering seems disappointing to say the least

Resident Evil 3 fully cranked is pulling nearly 20 gigabyte....looks stunning. Will be more about future games otherwise...Might be a small "performance diffference"...but 14 gigs more video ram at gddr6x seems significant to me.

Good watch. I Had 2 3070 cards with 8GB VRAM. The problem with Blender and the 3070 and 3080 is it will crash. Not sure the fault is with Blender or the video driver but what ever is going on, it runs out of memory. If I take my other computer that has 3 1080 cards also with 8GB VRam, all works well. So the answer for me was to go for more VRAM. So come tomorrow, I see 2 new 3090 Gigabyte cards arrive. Based on the shop doing testing, this works with no problems. So I hope it's a win, win. A bit faster then the 3070 but also no way to ever run out of VRam with a Render in Blender.

Reviewers really should re-bench these cards 6 months after launch because the initial gpu drivers mature about that time and we see a better results of how these cards perform. I agree it's probably still best for most to just go 3080 if they can find one but the 3090 has had the performance increased w/ newer drivers.

Same people that were buying OC 2080Tis will happily spend on 3090s. Still, modern G-Sync monitors and TVs heavily mitigate frame performance difference of 5-10% making it hard to tell 3080 from 3090 just by looking at the screen. 3090 is a "feel good" card for folks that are willing to pay top dollar for the top gear. In practice though 3080 and 3090 are basically the same thing. Just like AMD 3600 vs 3700X.

This is not what we expected from RTX 3090 for a such price.. some games like MFS 2020 or Control cant even Hold an average of 60fps on Ultra 4K.. totaly disapointed, maybe and only maybe new cpu from Rayzen or Intel wil help to increase some fps in the future.. how actually can it be better with DirectX12 ? a bit unsure about that too.. lets see what AMDs have to afford on the next month.

For me, it's the ram, as a my 2080ti only has 11gb and it chokes in Davinci Resolve Pro while using TNR (Temporal noise reduction) with 12 bit 6K BRAW files. TNR will use then ram, so this card is for Film makers like myself. for 99% of gamers it's overkill. and the 3080 should be more than enough.

Is there anyone here who constantly splashes out on new PC tech. I am just curious how deep your wallet is and what do you do with the old stuff? Sounds rhetorical yes but you just can't keep up with the release of new gear. I'm glad I'm not on the PC modding gravy train. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it's a hobby (albeit a ridiculously expensive one at that) but I couldn't justify buying one of these for example if I had a 2080GTX. I bet there are ppl who are already upgrading a mere 2-3 year old rig for this. Sorry, just not my cup of tea.

Why on earth are we even considering 8k and showing benchmarks and performance results of running games at 8k when the card are still running poorly at 4k.. 8k should not even be a consideration until games are being consistently run at 4k 120+ fps.. graphics card manufacturers are as out of touch with what gamer's actually want as Xbox are. Running Doom Eternal at 8k is not a big achievement.. lets see how red dead 2 runs at 8k, I bet the graphics card melts. Also can we stop using 60fps as a reference point.. this needs to be upped to 100fps.

Well 8k is being considered as Nvidia is marketing them for 8k gaming, so consumers have to right to know the 8k performance. 60 hz is also still the most sold display so therefore 60 fps as a reference point is logical. If you own a 120 hz+ display you can just check the benchmarks numbers for that XD

@@robinv1482 As I said Nvidia are more out of touch with consumers than MS are. Just because 60hz is the most sold display does not mean it should be used for 2 reasons, most of the people buying top end graphics cards are not buying 60hz displays and if Nvidia started making cards that can actually game at a decent frame rate at 4k then monitor manufacturers would be forced to keep up with them which would in tern bring down the price of higher quality screen as more people would be buying them.

As far as I heard, the FPS or Hz is the thing that can overload the PCI-e slot. I don't think we'll see 120Hz '4K' gaming for a long time. RDR2 would melt the GPU, unless the power delivery and cooling is completely custom and practically home-made.
