Sadly Luke you will be a tourist until you chose at least one anime by yourself. If you want to maintain that "you subscribers choose" image, at least make a poll with 3 or 4 animes that you want to watch and react to the winner as a test. Then we'll know your tastes better and we could roast you accordingly. 🤣

@achmodinivswe9500 I can binge watch if I liked the anime, especially if it's 12 episodes or short seasons. Last year, I binged watch all of Iruma-kun 3 seasons 😂 The year before that, I binged all of Natsume book of friends, all 6 seasons in the entire month of September. But sometimes, on weekly anime, I just stop, I can't watch anything for months and pile up the weekly anime into 4-6 weeks, and drop it at the end 😂😅

Technically, my first anime were Elfen Lied, Death Note, Evangelion, etc. but at that time I was about 8-10 years old, so I didn't really understand what I was watching, these ‘strange cartoons’ were on TV at night. Later on I came across a dvd of Naruto Shippuden, it was the second arc, so I started the show from the middle (lol), I watched it many times at that time, it was fascinating to me, and now for me there is this special arc of Naruto (the one with Blue Bird). Naruto started to be shown on TV and I watched it and some other ‘weird cartoons’ like FMAB, Soul Eater, etc. Everything changed when I went to university, where I finally got a decent internet connection and my dorm room mate was watching Naruto, so I caught up with Naruto on the ongoings at the time. After finishing Naruto, I just clicked on the site I was watching on, and at that moment I found out that I was watching ‘Anime’, so I just clicked on the anime that had the highest rating at that moment (Fairy Tail) and started watching it, so I spent 2 years just going down the rankings and watching all anime regardless of genre. Then I started watching anime less and less, started reading ranoba, and watched 1 anime a year or two, very much picking and choosing... until I went back to absorbing everything that came out. I must admit that the path described by Giguk was quite accurate in my case

My gateway anime was Clannad. I had seen a few other shows before like DBZ when I was growing up, but I stopped watching for a number of years and randomly decided to watch Clannad since it was so highly rated and was in a completely different genre than I had ever watched before. I figured that since most popular shows are action that something outside of that getting such a high rating had to be something special. It hooked me immediately and completely convinced me I needed to watch a lot more. My favorite anime is Saga of Tanya the Evil. My best anime is March Comes in Like a Lion. It's something that I hope to get voted for a reaction soon as I am sure you would really enjoy it.

Snafu, Bunny Girl Senpai, Clannad, Steins Gate, Cowboy Bebop, High School DxD, ... Ah, the Classics. I went from being an anime noob to a 10-series-per-cour-plus watcher in less than a year. (BTW, the two series I own on disk are Clannad and High School DxD. Variety is the Spice of Life.

I am definitely on the seasonal anime binge phase now. been that way for at least 5 years now. For the current season, I would say the most promising non-sequel ones are Medalist, Zenshu, From Bureaucrat to Villianess, Sakamoto Days, I may be a guild receptionist, Ameku MD, Flower and Asura, and Sorairo utility. If you want the most absolute cheekiest show of the season, check out Beheneko. My gateway anime was probably Naruto. I liked it so much that it was how I realized that there was an entire subbed version of the show that was way ahead of the dub. Then One piece, Bleach, and the rest followed.

So as a kid I watched Rurouni Kenshin and Black Jack on tv but my very first exploration of anime was watch Free Iwatobi Swim club and since then Ive loved slice of life sports and romance and recently I got into isekai/reincarnation/villainess anime
I know you asked so I'm gonna answer even if nobody actually cares 😂 So my first anime ever was Avatar: The Last Airbender, watched it as a child and only learned what anime was 9 years later. My first proper Japanese anime though was Re:zero, which I didn't like for some reason and surprisingly still watched more anime after. My friend was the one who introduced me to anime and he himself had only watched like 2 animes before me and I would only watch what he would tell me to for a while ... and most of these were Highschool dxd, Trinity Seven, Mashiroiro Symphony, basically all the harem ecchi shows in existence. Luckily after some time I decided to search for shows myself and I got to watch the good stuff (Slime, Sword Art Online, Charlotte and some more small unknown isekais). Now it's been 5 years since I've started my anime journey and I'm watching dozens of shows every season, started playing Genshin (way too much), learning Japanese, playing piano, drawing etc. and I couldn't be more grateful to my friend for introducing me to a medium that literally changed my life, goals and personnality.

Since I never felt the need to start doing MAL I have completely lost track of how many anime I've watched and countless that I dropped. I'm in my 40s and grew up on everything from Speed Racer, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Ghost In The Shell, Dragon Ball through to Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon. Stayed up till after midnight when I was 10-12 years old to watch anime movies on sci-fi channel that were absolutely not meant for kids 😂. I've watched pretty much every genre and for long running shounen battle I quickly gave up on anime and went straight to reading manga. At this point I've definitely read more manga than I have watched anime. Especially since I love a lot of slice of life series that might get 1 12 episode season and that's it. So I basically look at seasonal anime for possible manga recommendations for manga I haven't heard of yet. Or even decent light novels since there are some great hidden gems if you look hard enough.

I remember my anime (sub / JP dub specifically) entry exactly. I was playing Ragnarok Online with a friend and he recommended me to try Naruto because he was blown away by the Gaara vs. Rock Lee episode that just aired a while ago. So I started Naruto and the rest is history lol. Granted I had watched large parts Dragonball Z, Digimon, and a bit of Pokemon, Ranma, Beyblade, years before that while they were on local TV, but I didn't even know what anime was at that time, and ofc they were in dub (cursed, cursed german dub). But yeah, Gaara vs. Lee aired in 2003 ... sooo that puts me pretty late in the lifecycle, and I can't say Gigguk is very off XD I can't even answer what is my favorite or best anime, I've seen too many to order them and honestly depends on my mood as well. But I would definitely put Re Zero S1 specifically, Hunter X Hunter and Toradora very high up. Also Gigguk showed Eureka 7 characters, that's gotta be pretty high up for me too. Though the more popular ones are a lot easier to remember and I'd have to go through my watched-list to remember all the gems without bias. Only thing I can say almost-objectively to date is that the trophy for best *animation* in anime is still held by Fate Heavens Feel movie trilogy .. well and the final episode of the most recent season of Demon Slayer. Neither I'd call part of my "favorites" but god dam the animation is amazing.

Gateway: Spy x Family - For this one... I kinda just decided out of the blue that I was gonna watch it and then I did. I had been watching Hololive for a good bit at this point and it kind of felt weird that I'd never seen an anime before, so I guess I just thought I should give it a try. I can't really remember what compelled me to pick Spy x Family, but I enjoyed it so it worked out I guess. Favorite: Full Moon wo Sagashite - Honestly I don't really have a good reason as to why this anime impacted me so much, it's pretty niche and far from perfect but it seriously had a chokehold on me. The latter half just destroyed me emotionally, even when nothing sad was happening I was just crying nonstop. This anime was also the first time I experienced "the void" as mentioned in the video, I honestly can't even describe how I felt after I finished it, and ever since I haven't really gotten an anime to impact me like that again. I'm sure it's not everybody's cup of tea but I recommend at least looking it up and if it sounds interesting to you at all then please give it a shot! Best: Oshi no Ko - This one was kind of tough to choose but Oshi no Ko is just so well done. There are so many beautiful animation sequences that are so artful and well thought out, the storytelling is amazing, the characters are great, it's just really really good overall. I would highly recommend watching it for anybody who hasn't yet.

Best: FMA: Brotherhood (the remake you watched that followed the manga, aka the good one). I have still yet to find a more technically excellent anime. Where I am: Approaching enlightenment. I still try to keep up with the best seasonal anime, but I've given up on keeping up with all of them. I'm much more picky about what I watch, and I'll usually drop a show after an episode or three if I can tell it won't be one of my top 100. Where you are: very much an infant. I've never been on the seasonal binge stage, and I'm doing my best to avoid it. I've noticed that, every season, there is a Great Filter that will separate the anime that only have a temporary hype, and the actual great ones that people will still talk about in 10 years. By avoiding the seasonal binge, I let the Great Filter do its job. I am then left with the anime I truly intend to watch. Yes, it means I can never talk about airing anime... And I absolutely could not give less of a damn.

Good reaction. New viewer. Seen a few others and it's clear on your channel what you have seen. Lot of good besides the obvious. Good variety. Each person's journey is different, casual starters are fine then the deeper stuff and what you can stomach. Only casual/acclaimed is fine but you do miss out on what the medium is broad of for niches, and standing out. In many cases it is understandable though. Some are western or broad enough appeal easy to get into and very clear what's going on and don't need a live action for them. But when things get weird of some niches, whether ecchi fan service handled well or odd other character quirks or too Japanese culturally to understand references/too slice of life Japanese to be interesting as a westerner unless really interested in it. Or other factors, it can vary. Some words in manga or anime in dubs aren't always translated either so if you don't know in official works what they mean it can be tough but fans or urban dictionary is a good sign. I know as while rare it has happened where I forget what some fan used words mean. In scanlations so unofficial translations they are kept in and do a good job with references (depends on the scanlation staff) while official vary how they handle localised translation/glossary notes at the end of the manga or if any at all. Unofficial works do put them in between panels or at the end. Or link to Wikipedia too. It depends how they can describe it. Anime fans do make clear their thoughts or appeal of a show/book. But videos like Gigguk's are very good and probably very likely to what fans actually think. Let alone this lifecycle video or anime fan types ones or others. I don't think because relatable (I don't care for that) but do represent in jokes or reality how many things are likely for people. Some dubs can have a subtitle but most times that's for subs and if it's Japanese characters in the animation part. Fan subs did this better while official subs it's very uncommon. A MAL, Kitsu or anilist can help if not a document or if you even care to as you have playlists likely for reactions to shows and that's your list of sorts of your journey so far. But still seasonal charts are fine but you don't have to see them. But it gives an idea what airs, what trends, what types of ideas shows have. What original sources many things come from as well then get a tv show/movie adaptation or are original. I started in 2014, people were watching S2 of SAO. I started S1, Accel World the sister series, DNA Angel, Shakugan no Shana, got into harem, ecchi, romcoms, etc. didn't get to Hentai till what 2022 I think. But had seen borderline or some on accident like Skirt in Wolves Clothing I think it was but I started properly in 2022 with Xcation or Staycation or something I think. Got to Moe/moeblob over time too. I enjoy Date A Live for anime or some like New Game for moeblob shows or Lucky Star. It varies too many likely since. For Hentai probably Showtime it'd about a kids show host like Ueamichi san is a kids show host thing but a interesting family dynamic and S2 goes into some fair industry stuff. Otherwise a Eroge H Mo Game Mo Kaihatsu Zanmai so a video game making company one. Very vanilla choices not into dark stuff. So for 10 years and mostly 2014-2016 seasonal alongside many shows, I found my favourites and went mostly romcoms, slice of life and harems. Odd action series of they were sequel seasons that's about it. I've seen 2000s era shows, odd 90s OVAs, but mostly 2010+ stuff. In 2020 I even went eh stop this year and watch old only. 2021-2203 got back into seasonal but lighter of show watchiyand 2023+ just Blu rays of shoes I planned to see. Many niche ones won't but I'll get to them. Mostlya manga reader nowadays digiior physical. I have played the odd visual novels as well. Gotten to about 400+ then with Hentai around 450 or 500+ I think. Short form are interesting watches though. Sometimes I just watched short form shows in a season I did every Monday with Douki chan and Tawawa on Monday S2. But yeah. I did go for a variety of genres, see what types of shows, some powered through, others dropped. The trends are hit and miss sometimes. I have gone to Yuri or Reverse Harem sometimes out of curiosity more so, some are good, some are eh. But it varies.

If I had to place you somewhere it would be a weird mix of the "everything is good" stage and the "taste" stage where you've seen enough shows to work out the kinds of things you like and you're taking it seriously enough that you're willing to do some literary analysis of what you've seen but because your experience has been highly curated you've never really encountered any of the REAL gutter trash that is 90% of all anime (the worst shows you've seen probably only go as low as 6/10 IMO) and so you don't really have a point of reference for "good" and "bad" anime. Until you look for anime yourself you'll probably never move from that stage, entering the seasonal phase and starting 12 shows only to drop 10 of them after 3 episodes is a real experience.

Gigguks point at the end is very poinent In order to have shit taste you must first have no taste Basically calling out the first stage as people didnt have shit taste at the start, they simply had none, they didn't develop shit taste until they reached the enlightenment stage and thought they somehow understood anime more than the people around them no man you didnt suddenly develop a critical eye you just now have shit taste and thats ok hense the acceptance stage, realizing you do have shit taste rather than thinking you're above others because you start using words like pacing and characterization

It is a rather tongue-in-cheek video so I wouldn't take his word as absolute gospel. People are different - I got into anime via Ghibli movies and then for a while just watched whatever was on Netflix and looked interesting. A lot of common "beginner anime" (mostly long-running shonen) I either took a while to get to or still have not seen. Ultimately, popularity only influences your watching decisions if you interact with other anime fans, which I didn't do for a while in the early days of my anime journey. So you could say I skipped the first stage. Some people even start at the hentai stage 🙃

You haven reacted a fraction of the types of anime there are actually. I wouldn't call your tastes broad at all. Very basic mainstream hype stuff for the most part. You don't develop tastes until you appreciate shows that other people don't appreciate as much.

Gateway Anime: Death Note Favourite Anime: Naruto Best Anime: Naruto No, I don't love Naruto because of nostalgia (watched it for the first time in 2023), and no, it's not because it was one of the first I watched. I've watched it 5 times since the first time and I've seen 40+ shows since, and read plenty of manga, but nothing will ever surpass that show for me. Connected with me in a way that no other piece of fiction has, and I doubt ever will.
