And that is exactly it in a nutshell. Kareem knows this. He said you can not define one GOAT, because everyone played different eras, teammates, competition, different coaches, different rules, etc. If Kareem, Magic, Bird, Mike, Kobe, etc played in a culture that rewarded stat chasing and accepted “well, he won rings by teaming up with every new shiny All-NBA player”, then they’d have numbers too. The shit boils down to what narrative each person values. You like longevity and numbers you can point to, that’s Bron. You like the ability to do it on your own, that’s Kobe. You like just winning, that’s Mike. You like dominance, that’s Shaq. Etc. GOAT debates just can not be won.

I think you are leaving out a lot of things... Theres a lot that contribute that dont appear in the box score. Wemby s a good example of this (not that he is somewhat close to the goat debate) but thanks to Wemby, there are a lot of shots not being taken, lots of bad shots being taken. Curry is another example, thanks to his gravity, how many points his teammates scored ? Thats not showed but are very important
@jeffreylanier22210 ай бұрын
@jwg0814 This topic was on who they considered the GOAT. Gil read off 4 or 5 different players' stats without saying who the players were. All I'm suggesting is use that same metric and give each one a paper on it. Let them circle the one player who they think is the GOAT. So if McCants says player A (Kobe) is the GOAT, but if he circles another player, then we know McCants is not believing in his own words.

Durant has a higher PPG career average than lebron.. but Jordan and Wilt tied for highest career ppg. like it’s so many factors. You have to look at everything.
