People need to understand that the history of the All Star game is about the favourite players of the fans. It was never about the best players in the NBA. They tried to balance it out by giving votes to the media and coaches but it still is about popularity and never about who are the best 24 players.

Majority of the NBA revenue and player salaries come from ticket sales. The fans support the league, mostly. I was out with the fam all sunday so I couldn't watch the game at home, but I pulled it up on a live stream on my phone while at dinner. Watched it for a few minutes and was bored as hell. Even my lady, who didn't played ball, but enjoys watching regular season games with me said "This is boring" before I even said anything. That's a casual fan saying that. Scrap the all star game, extend NBA all star saturday night. Add a horse tourney, a 1 on 1 tourney, knockout, golf, dribble knockout maybe even some relay races and just show cases these's guys skills. All-Star ideas: - include the globetrotters and best street hoopers into the dunk contest - have the 24 All Stars mentor/train for a week with the 24 Rising Stars for a 1v1 tournament - Have an East v West mascot game of the top 24 teams going into All-Star break - Have each team's dancers compete year round and host the finals during that weekend All of those ideas have the effect of showcasing the NBA's talent and entertainment while also taking pressure off the All-Stars to take something seriously that has no stakes.

It's simple, the players of the past built the NBA into what it is today, a conglomerate where a benchwarmer can get paid $12m. This has turned the players soft and lazy. It's a cycle though. If the players are worried about playing hard then going right back to their schedules the only solution is to give them a few days off after. So if the weekend is Friday night to Sunday night, allow them to be off until that Wednesday or Thursday like the Super Bowl does . Or scrap it being in the middle of the season just do it at the end before the finals

Whichever conference wins the all star game will get to choose the format the NBA FINALS will be played in (traditional (2 2 1 1 1 or old school 2 3 2) For example, next year let's say the West wins the all star game, regardless of record, they will get to choose which format the finals is played in. In some cases, it's a psychological advantage to choose the older format based upon who has home field advantage. Giving this decision to the players can impact the way the All star game is played and intrigue for the second half of the season and the finals. No $ factor necessary

This is sad, the fans made this league profitable, and now fans are now considered a nuisance. That's why I will forever love 90s and early 2000s basketball. There was a real connection with the league and its fans.

By their logic, here’s an example; if I miss a couple days of working out, I shouldn’t go to the gym anymore because of that, or I should gradually go to the gym less and less until eventually I don’t go at all.
