I'm dubious about this move. If this were a young team, I'd say all right. But this team is in a win-now mode. Lots of people are comparing JJ to Steve Kerr, but Steve did play a long time for two of the greatest coaches in NBA history in Phil Jackson and Pop and he did have a legit champion DNA in him. He did hit several big shots in the finals for the Bulls and the Spurs, so his credibility as a player was really there when the Warriors hired him as coach. This will probably be a JJ-Lebron coaching combo with JJ being the face of it.

Few things about Pat Riley becoming head coach was that he was an assistant coach first. And how they got Magic and Worthy were through trades. And if you take away the hindsight of what Magic and Worthy turned out to be and look at what the initial thoughts on each one were as a pro prospects, you'll see that what helped the Lakers trade up to get them was teams thought that both wouldn't be great choices to make. Teams thought Magic couldn't shoot and that Worthy wouldn't be able to play power forward. And also Paul Westhead couldn't vibe with Magic. So there's your players coach requirement that Gil brought up.

One I think it will work because one he’s relates to the players and his play style would be a upgrade offensively for the lakers

JJ will be a good coach in my opinion. Hes disciplined and knowledgeable. obviusly, he can communicate with players and his ideologies align with the league. hell be around for a long time.
