Gil Scott-Heron was the Godfather of modern rap, a deep thinking cat that inspired a lot of people, myself included, with his powerful words and beats. RIP brother Gil.

It was a trend at the time, to convert bass guitars into double-basses by ripping out the frets. That's why you hear the bass slipping around and has a smooth tone.

what a powerhouse of an artist, I saw him in the 70's he was performing at a college. my friend and I got to go back stage and talk with him and the group too cool. he even attended a party later on that night at Clark U. a lot of his songs were social consciousness raising so intelligent and smooth....may he rest in peace

No doubt about it. Gil Scott Heron was a genius. His words put to music were magical and mystical resonating with all of us who could hear. I would play "Pieces of A Man" all day. Wow! How prolific was the insight he provided into the experience of the Black Man living in America? Priceless simply priceless. We have lost a great spirit in the flesh but his contribution lives on through his art.

Be very clear scott, I love me some Gil Scott-Heron , there is no other like him, or his genius, his talent and ability to touch and resonate with us in the unique expression that was his only. My pint is this and remains thus, I hate what the American experience of being a black man living in America does to us. The stress of always having to be conscious of who you are where you are and what that all means is heavy and so I get why so many sensitive brother/sisters choose substances to cope.

In my opinion, thats just part of Gil Scott Heron's genuisnous. He shows that even a strong willed person such as himself can fall under the darkness of drugs, letting the world know that hes just a person the same as you. No man is above another, a crackhead is not a lower individual than a person making millions because in the end, they can still be influenced by the same things and no one is invincible.
