Another legend who is very underrated! We need to make sure we do our duty and spread the great music that is at risk of being forgotten.

I wish more young people would give Gil a listen....And I do not mean you because I see the album covers on the wall and assume that you have a high familiarity with GSH, but other young people....I have been a big fan of Gil since I heard "The Revolution will not be Televised" when I was about 7 or 8, which was about 1982ish....His message was always spot on, even to a young white kid like me....I would go as far as saying that the message that he always espoused is just as relevant(if not more so) today than when he put pen to paper to write his prose....Thank you!!!!

You have great taste my brother! Blows my mind when i hear older generations who still haven’t heard of Gil. Gotta make it my duty to help spread these messages within the classics such as this! I couldn’t imagine growing up like u and hearing GHS in his prime. Im jealous to be honest lol . Thank you for watching my guy! Its much appreciated

Does that guy have the coolest voice, or what? Perfect mix of jazz, soul, and political and social awareness. Again, that band was so lit live. Cubby Bear lounge across from Wrigley Field ... had to be the early eighties because Reagan was President (or as Gil called him Ray-gun), and Gil wasn't having any of it! Check out "B-Movie" a direct response to the Reagan administration. (Reagan of course was an actor before he got into politics). "Winter in America" is great. Then you have the classics.. "The Bottle", "Johannesburg", "Angel Dust". Brilliant! The only problem when I saw him that night, he let that amazing band extend a lot of the songs so long - 5, 10 minutes or more, just to let them jam, that they went past the legal bar hours and had to be shut down. So wish his voice was around today to comment on what's going on. Such a terrible loss. He was a true poet and possibly the first Rapper long before they even had a name for it. It's so cool that you know about him, T. More Gil Scott- Heron please!! P.S. "The Revolution will NOT be televised"

JEALOUS TO HEAR THAT YOU WITNESSED THIS LIVE!! Jesus. Bet it was incredible. I wish more in my generation knew about Gil. Makes me sad when great music is left stuck in time. That’s why we gotta do our best to help pass and share this with those after us . If it wasn’t for my uncle and dad I wouldn’t know Gil or half the other brilliant artist back in that time. We have dozens of viynls in the garage . Im gonna check out the B- Movie and let u know what i think! I haven’t heard “Winter in America” so that will be my bext pit stop 🚗 . Let’s give this channel some more Gil. Got many other artist I wanna shed light on. If u have any specific artist u think i should cover let me know!

I love this artist. I worked on a series of concerts called No Nukes, (musical artists against nuclear power) around 1980ish I believe. Heron was one of the performers and he sang this song as well as a few others at several shows, it was also on the CD set. He was a beautiful human being as well as outstanding singer. RIP

Gil definitely a true original. Got turned on to him a few years back ol One of my friends went to Howard University back in the day and got to witness Gill showing up a few times doing his thing for some of the student body in the area. Wish I could have got to see him in person RIP Think I'm going to share your reaction on my Facebook

Thanks for the reaction. Gil Scott Heron with Brian Jackson is one of my favourite musicians ever. Gil is a real poet with deep voice. And we shouldn't forget about Brian Jackson. His music was really great. Gil and Brian was a perfect combination. Have a great day!

Gil Scott Heron brought me here. Wondering if any reactors were checking his message and I found you. Subscribed on the spot. And smoooth! Would love to hear his take today because while some things are getting better - so much is worse and the playbook is sooo old. And, in a different context, we didn’t lose Detroit this time. Voters came out!!! Thank you. Also recommend Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On album and Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly, War (The World is a Ghetto) and The Temptations “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” and Stevie Wonder and Etta James, Tina Turner, Nina Simone, so many who raise their voices. *Politics is personal and protest can be artful.

Show bizness is my favorite, the beginning of that song starts with a funky version of the clown theme. I always thought that he was mocking the entertainment industry for its dehumanization of its workers.

Heard this was back during the 60’s during a nuclear plant incident. Was there almost ab actual explosion or was the song more metaphorical in relation to that specific event?

Dxmn Tyler he mentions Silkwood in the song. Karen Silkwood was a nuclear energy worker/whistle blower that died very young in a car accident under “unclear” circumstances. Really interesting how he ties all these historical events together.
