my favorite poem that tells people what to do with their money. considering the Apollo programs cost $25 billion, and in 1970 there were around 25 million people below the poverty line, they would've gotten $1000 each and then what?

I think it is pretty racist. To suggest that people of color can't even feed or protect themselves from rats without the help of white people is very condescending. Also, creating the framework that 'every dollar spent on advancing the species as a whole should be spent on people of color' carries the opposite implication; 'every dollar spent on mendicant people of color is one dollar taken away from advancing the species'. At best it is likely to stir up racial resentment and at worst it might make the productive nations and races decide that money spent on historically marginal people is a waste. Just a bad message all around.

Equality doesn't exist in nature and it's proponents, uncaring, probably know it, but it isn't equality which they seek; they seek to reduce the White man to a headless automaton, with no memory of his former spiritual awareness and no way even of knowing that something vital has been stolen. agreed, also a white man. in 1970 the white man was in charge, period. so he has every right to refer to the govt. as whitey, at least he did back then. and poverty was growing while the govt. spent millions on space

I am Hispanic, and I don't consider myself a racist, but I truly believe that this guy is a great poet from an era where everything is said is true. It's a reality of all the social segregation that blacks have gone through in this Nation. To consider a toilet just for whites o blacks is sick, to consider a school just for whites or blacks is mentally sick, to consider a black person three thirds of a man is humanly shameful, to call a person alien (honestly) is disgraceful. Now, all these are facts. So, I don't this guy has any complex at all. His simply saying the truth about millions of white people who, even today, still hold the same prejudices of the past. But I must say that American have learned from the past, and this Nation has more racial equality than any other country in the world, and is also a fact: not all white people are racists. Blessings and love to all!!

I used to think that I myself was three thirds of a man. But now I realize how sick that really is.

Look at the comment sections and you'll see that Gil Scott Heron is STILL pissing Whitey off all these year later. A true legend.

I'm a whitey and I like Gil Scott-Heron. Does that make me a piece of shit cos some guys who had the same colour skin as me from a completely different country went to the moon over 20 years before I was born? Deary me, think about what you're writing. Are you 12?
