nakaka proud po talaga , first time after 6 decades that we won against a European team " IN A FIBA SANCTIONED BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT " because in 1985 when the Philippines won the Jones cup spearheaded by the core of NCC against the Mighty USA we defeated Team Germany and Team Italy , also in the same year in the world Interclub we also defeated Banco de Roma of Italy

The tune ups did great for Gilas like they almost defeated Turkey and were just behind by two points. We're not lacking in height and skill, the intensity just had to be there.

Na limit nila si davis bertans to only 10 points ginawa nilang defense si dwight ang tumatao sakanya sa labas dahil kaya ng bilis ni Dwight but pag nasa inside dun sila nag sswitch. The athleticism of Chris Newsome was on full display yesterday. Yes part ng triangle offense ang high low but usually with a stretch 4. Sotto had a few good off the dribble plays and a 3 pointer which surprised me. If he continues to works on both of those he could raise his ceiling. -Maui

Some folks here seem to detest your comments about our bench's performance, but you guys are spot on. The +/- numbers bear it out. There was a very palpable dip in Gilas' game whenever CTC had to take out JMF, Kai, New, Dwight, or JB. CJ did make 2 3s, but his floor game was horrible. Not his fault though as he has never been a true point guard. KQ and Carl had too much "gigil", mostly due to their youth and inexperience, but also probably because of the added pressure stemming from the starters doing so well. They will learn with added reps. Oftana was a non-factor, and Japeth gave as much as he could. All in all we definitely need a much better showing from our bench if we're gonna beat Georgia who, not only is in a must win situation, but also has had time to scout and prep for our boys. They definitely won't be taking us lightly. A decent showing by our bench mob will hopefully give our "big 5" more in-game rest and keep them somewhat fresh for the end game. Unless Tim just goes full Tom Thibideau mode and just play our starters to exhaustion. Regardless, hoping and praying for another Gilas victory. I'll be watching and cheering my weak lungs out. Lol Thank you for your undying support for Philippine basket in general. For once, we are all one in rooting for the same team. Mabuhay ang Gilas. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Although it was only an exhibition game, Kai also played very well vs Poland (11 rebounds). So that's 2 solid games vs Euro teams. Yes, I agree, Kai is back on track in pursuing his NBA dream.

I will have to add, I knew Kai-junmar could work offensively, but, defensively, that's where you gotta wonder how Cone would manage that. We saw Fajardo-Edu work defensively in the world cup and i am sure Sotto-Edu would work just as it did in Batang Gilas but, Sotto-Fajardo, wow, great job by Tim Cone

Tim Cone is the perfect coach for Gilas. He knows Philippine Basketball and familiar with the players. Also, he knows how to use the bigs unlike the past national coaches.

This Latvia win also validated the high basketball IQ🧠 of Chris Newsome. He has adapted to his role FOR THIS TEAM and he has shown how fast he has learned Tim Cone's "hybrid" triangle offense. Newsome to this team is what Gabe Norwood was to that Philippine team that beat Korea and qualified for the Worlds.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Newsome proved all his doubters wrong last night. Sucks that he wasnt eligible before but it looks like he’s making up for lost time. Hopefully others will follow Newsome’s persistence to get eligibility. -Maui

According to Spin, this was the first win vs a Euro team in a FIBA sanctioned game since 1960. Those other games you mentioned were not FIBA sanctioned
