As some one who refs intramural sports in college (as much credit as you want to put on that) the reason call will be different in quarters sometimes is because some times we may feel the game is getting to physical or chatty and we try to meditate that by being more stern on the calls

Most refs like to keep the game “tight” as in technical early on and swallow the whistle as the game goes(from what I’ve experienced as a HS player; whatever that was worth in 2011-15) I’ve heard of refs that will do that but most players take the game too seriously to ever get too chatty

Thats actually not true. In comparison to how many 3s they took they actually had one of the lowest foul drawing rates in the league. Youre thinking of james harden, who has mastered that. Now in terms of moving screens, they did get away with hella moving screens, but everybody does it and it is rarely called.

Austin Reeves was out here getting 20 FT in multiple games when the lakers made that playoff push. They weren’t even trying to hide at. At the same time whoever was in the 10th seed was getting hosed by refs. I remember the Pels struggling until the Mavs were in that spot and experienced some horrible officiated games. Final game if the season Utah had more paint points but only shot 6 FT. The rigging was wild

Just bc it’s a NBA player doesn’t mean he know what he talking about. It’s possible about there is some shady shit that happens that makes you think, but it’s also alil crazy that more ppl from the inside wouldn’t leak that, like other refs that don’t want to rig and other team employees and league employees. When you have something that big it’s hard to believe more isn’t being leaked, but it is possible. I think they do need to be more clear on the fouls, where they can and if the teams could pick the ref that would help. There’s gotta be other things the league can do to limit the amount of rigging. Like the team gets 5 refs available for tonight and you each pick one, home team picks 2. But I don’t think it’s really rigged I just think that with some of the fouls not being clear mixed with biases and human error makes for what we have in inconsistency.

Refs in the NBA make at LEAST 200k per season, not including those that do playoffs. It be really dumb to change the outcome of the game. The issue is either consistency but it’s hard when players are trying to get a call. As a ref that does middle school and JV games, it’s really frustrating and then you miss a call or you try to establish a tone and they immediately think you’re cheating. I bet 90% of the people that criticize refs would be even worse than what we have now

I mean I think Gil has a point. They have bosses. You wanna keep making that 200k? Then make these calls. The league wants to make more money, so extend the playoff series, like the Kings and the Lakers did (which practically got admitted. They said all the refs were told to make the Lakers win so they could have a game 7). It's a business. They care about that first, integrity second. Still fun, still entertaining. But there's a lot of evidence to say it's partially rigged.
