I'm not American and as such I never really knew about Gilbert Gottfried and his amazing voice neither from his movies growing up nor from his comedy. I'm pretty sure it was this video that introduced me to Gilbert Gottfried, during a time I was binge-watching Fool Us clips on KZbin and, not to sound dismissive of your own magic performance, but Gilbert's comedy really stuck with me since then. What a terrible loss is his death.

Now I got it. It's that old trick from the movies where the break-in crew inserts a still image into the security feed so the camera room can't see what's really going on, know what I mean? Nicely done.

I think that’s not it. According to their description when fooled, it’s not an image overlay; that was Mark physically written on the paper. Is there a point where they could have swapped envelopes or papers? Edit: Watching again now. The envelope appeared before the volunteer was called. There may have been a still image as Mark was called up, but the Envelope doesn’t look moved, and Gilbert never completely obscured it. The opening while hiding the Parrot also was never blocked. When he picks the envelope up, he never covers/flips the top, and puts down the papers before grabbing it. There’s no clear place to make a swap.

@@LocalMaple Actually, between Gilbert leaving and re-entering, the envelope is slightly moved, I think. Use the glue joint of the cabinet as a reference to the right edge of the envelope. In any case, what you do is, you put some marker next to the edges of the envelope before removing it so you can put it back in exactly the same place.

This was funny and super clever! Using Gilbert G had the added effect of emotionally blinding P&T. Any other duo performing this act might have been busted. It’s rare to fool them twice. Hopefully you get to try for a 3rd!

Pretty lame trick - forced pick from his right hand under his coat and when you cant see Gilbert the name Mark was added to the paper and put in a separate envelope. You can see the open end of the envelope is slightly upturned and messed with. There is some good tricks on here but that wasn't one of them.

This made me lose a lot of respect for the show. Penn and Teller were in on it. Rewatch and look where the ball goes in the audience vs where the camera cuts to the guy catching it. The guy catching the ball is in a completely different place in the audience. This is so sad, I really liked this show.

Greg Wallace you’re correct that teller threw the ball to a different person. The person that caught the ball from teller was asked by me to toss it again to make it even more random. Was cut most likely for time but either person was not in on it. It’s against the rules of the show.

Greg Wallace there wasn’t much they could do. The first throw from teller was across and in the front of the audience. The toss from that guy to the eventual volunteer was straight back. The editors did the best they can. They have one of the best minds in magic helping and ensuring the integrity of the magic trick is preserved in the final cut. Such a difficult job.

That's why I came here too. That and the fact that the audience member must be a plant because theres no other way for the paper to have been pre written with the name mark. You said there was no manipulation of the image or cgi so that's the only solution. Secondly that jacket did not fit well. That bothered us quite a bit. And we thought you just folded both sides of the box down to hold the parrots against the walls of the box while slipping the gorilla into the center, and then the "volunteer" grabs that one as it's the only one he feels even if he isn't in on that part of the trick. Not impressed with this trick.

Paul, I agree with your point about the jacket, was disturbing to look at myself too. Just because you cannot think of any other way doesn't mean an alternative doesn't exist. This wasn't meant to be a real fooler as much as I hoped it would entertain folks. Bummed you didn't like it.
