Great trick, and even greater with Gilbert Gottfried participating in it, there's NO WAY you could conceal his voice anyway! It's very sad he's no longer with us now as of the time of my comment, he passed away yesterday at the age of 67. One does not simply fool Penn and Teller. You simply design a trick they like well enough and hope they give you a trophy.
@nguyenvu82624 жыл бұрын
Actually, fooling them is simple enough. You pick a trick with multiple methods and pretend that one of those methods is used (via similar body gestures). That happened a few times in the past and once recently. Most magician do not think that's proper way to fool them since that contributes nothing to the advancement of magic as well as their own career. So they did not exploit that process.
@jordanfan82224 жыл бұрын
Nguyen Vu this is correct. The nice thing is, while the people who designed bad, gimmicky, ambiguous tricks may have earned themselves a fool us trophy, their videos never get anywhere near the amount of likes and views as the ones who fooled Penn and Teller the right way. Obvious example, Shin Lim is lauded as a maestro of magic while the only time Jibrizy is mentioned is as a joke. So talent still wins in the end

This is the problem with Fool Us. They clearly know how the trick is done, there is just many possible ways to do it and they have to guess the correct way as their first guess. It has happened many times, they clearly know the trick, but lets say one of the tricks in an act has 3 possible ways of doing it, they have to guess which of the 3 ways you did it and if they dont guess right at the first time, eh you "fooled them".
@DissectingThoughts4 жыл бұрын

@edthacow3 ай бұрын
I was fooled who Gilbert was, then he walked away from the blur.
@VoIcanoman4 жыл бұрын
Here's how it was done. At the beginning of the trick, the background is real. Gottfried starts talking. Then he leaves the view, at which point the camera switches to a greenscreen, a direct copy of a real background that exists right next to the greenscreen, with the same lighting, same camera-type with same settings, etc. It has to be greenscreen and not some other image projection technique because the place where Gottfried places the envelope is reflected in the false background image (so someone screen caps the real image and puts it on a green screen). When we learn Mark's name (with Gottfried OFF camera and the greenscreen on the feed), the real envelope is stuffed with the piece of paper and placed exactly where it used to be. Then the feed switches back to the real background just before Gottfried walks in front of it. This is why at the end Grosso says "it wasn't exactly as you described it" at the end. Because P+T thought the card was greenscreened, and he DID use greenscreen...just not for the card. The evidence is pretty obvious for someone watching at home...but SUPER hard to catch live. Just after Mark joins them onstage, the feed switches to the Gottfried camera. Then, the background image changes ever so slightly (over the next second or so, just as Gottfried is about to walk on). The shadows the painting casts are different, the painting appears to MOVE a bit downwards (they didn't get the camera angles EXACTLY right), and the reflections of the light off the desk slightly different. It's subtle but visible pretty easily. I also think they bump the camera deliberately after Gottfried walks on (just as he says the word "perfect") to help conceal the trickery.
@rakninja4 жыл бұрын
the problem with this theory is that gilbert is still casting shadows on the background objects. he blocks the reflections you claim are different. while it's not impossible to edit such things, it takes professional movie effects teams months of man-hours and many thousands of dollars to do. any other form of compositing the "real" image and the still one you claim was keyed in would be VERY obvious, especially if there's a noticeable misalignment between the "real" and static images, as you claim there is.
@bendowson31242 ай бұрын
That's wrong. Penn said in this video that it only looked like Mark was on the envelope. And someone else in the comments claimed that Vinny told him it was all prerecorded meaning that there was no actual "Mark" on the sheet.

I find this explanation interesting because, as I have posted on other videos of this trick, this is something I would of said in Penn's place: The talking films were a great breakthrough, and even though there are times where we can be deaf to things going on and blind to things we cannot see, especially those outside the shot frame, we get to see what we are meant to see. Even if we cannot hear the subtitles being printed as they go, usually by a monkey or a minion. Being blind to things, to the choices our choices in life, can lead to others forcing their ideals upon us. Those ideals can be presented to us in the darkness and placed in our hands without us knowing. So that in future examination all we had were two choices, the one we took and the majority we did not. From there is really no choice at all those in control choose for us and show us our choice. But it was a McCombical deck. I really thought I had this one too.

@Swingman20124 жыл бұрын
There's a lot that's just odd about this trick, the routine, and P&T's responses. First of all, I don't believe that Mark was a plant. P&T wouldn't participate in a setup - if it was ever exposed they'd be ruined. But there was enough editing to make it look false when Mark was chosen. I think Vinny just pulled the gorilla out of his left pocket and put it on top in the box, but as others have noted the real trick was Mark's name on the card when Godfried pulled it out. The parrot in the video disappearing made it look like it was prerecorded and edited but that's such a huge mistake that I'm thinking it was intentional as a distraction. I don't know how it was all done, but I don't think P&T were genuinely fooled. There are a dozen ways it could have been done and they just picked the wrong one.
@AAGEnzee4 жыл бұрын
Yea, the video seeming to be recorded IS the misdirection. Gilbert and Vinny purposefully respond to each other with slight delays to reinforce the idea. The first part could've be recorded, doesn't matter, but the part where Gilbert holds up the envelope was definitely live. When he walks off screen, the video can be frozen on the still image, and the prediction is placed in the envelope. That's why Vinny said 'that's not quite how it happened' when they guessed greenscreen. He DID do some shenanigans with the prediction (obviously, it's a magic trick) and they simply swapped in, physically, the one he reveals. By that point, they know the audience member's name, and Vinny is forcing the Gorilla pick. You can see the moment Vinny has to do the sleight of hand to put it in the box, he's got the box up against him, right side facing audience, obscuring his left side completely. Relatively easy to pull something from his pocket and put it in the box. Then, his right arm (our left) is obscured by the box when Mark goes to pick. He could just be holding the gorilla and putting it front of Mark's hand when he reaches in. While this can be said for many tricks, it's super simple once you see it, but it seems like some of the simplest tricks are the ones that fool P&T. Either because it's pulled off SO smooth, they literally don't see it (the cookie and milk one) or there is too many ways for the trick to be done, they can't be sure which it is. Some people think that's not fair to them, but if it was only the tricks they had literally NO idea how they were done, it'd be a super short list of maybe 5ish people that ever fooled them, I'd guess. Even with someone like Shin Lim, they knew how he did a lot of his tricks, but there was a couple they weren't really sure on, and that is so rare that they love it when it happens. Their knowledge of magic is so profound, even when they are confused, they could likely guess the trick if you gave them a few minutes to talk with the magician alone and throw out all their guesses.

I know one part that got the audience member to pick gorlia in his mind. When he was naming back the Parrots and calling them by the other animals name he did not say gorilla. I think he slid the gorilla in the box as the audience member reached in side.
@epicragegaming20164 жыл бұрын
the gorilla is behind the box and he hides it behind the rear flap. exposes the parrots then tilts the box away from the audience and uses one hand to hold the box while mark chooses a stuffy and puts the gorilla in his hand. this was obvious to penn and teller.

I really wish folks could get past what Gilbert had said several years ago. The guy made a mistake, and whether or not his apology for using those deaths in Japan was only prompted by the outrage of the community, folks need to realize he is only human, and at the time had a bad taste for humor, and when someone realizes the harm in something they have done, and refrained from doing it ever again, YOU NEED TO FORGIVE and let it go. He isnt a terrible person for making that one error in judgement, it just means he made a poor choice, and what matters is that he learned from this mistake and didnt do it again. We all make mistakes, he would we feel if folks did this to us, throwing up something in our face for a long time or the rest of our lives. We wouldnt like it, in fact that would hurt us that we are held accountable nonstop for something that didnt involve ruining the life of anyone else, a fucking poor choice of words used in comedy..... Im not religious, but I have to say that there is much value in the biblical passage that says if you cant forgive someone their tresspass, then you wont be forgiven when you are judged after death(i take this metaphorically, i dont believe in afterlife).... When someone has actually destroyed someone else's life, then theres warrent to criticize someone until they have made retribution to the one they hurt, and Gilbert is not guilty of ding such a thing.

Yes it does. You can't just say, "Oh he used sleight of hand to hide a marker" because most of the magicians on the show use sleight of hand, but getting it from a hat to the shoe without being seen can warrant a fooler

The ball was not thrown to a plant. Plants are not possible on Fool Us. They aren't allowed. Rather, anytime an audience member is picked, the production crew cuts, gets a mic on them, and re-films them grabbing the ball.

Stanton High you do realize if someone in the audience said that P&T did that they’d be destroyed right? Video editing and clever cuts means nothing if you can’t also fool the people in person
