If you go through the Fool Us videos on youtube, you very often stumble upon magicians trying to misguide you by the video title, such as "Magician astonishes Penn and Teller" in order to trick people to watching it hoping they wont"t notice the title not actually saying "fooled". Aand here is the double fooler that is humble enough to let the video tell the story and only lets the title tickle your curiousity. I just understood why he looked at the cards. It was entirely to misdirect Penn & Teller. It forces that to be their guess (that he actually just looked for the missing card and memorized the location). That way, they've wasted their guess on something that's wrong and they normally don't take a second guess. That's absolutely brilliant.

But it doesn't take too much time to realise an Ace is missing --__-- He even took his time before saying after only having 3 Aces in his hands, I really didn't understand the trick there...

@@-_Nuke_- Part of it is that he also picked the card out facedown, since the cards were unmarked (since Penn and Teller examined them). The rules of the game mean that they get one guess on how he did it, they said he picked the cards out facedown by memory, which he didn't (based on other episodes, if he did do it by memory, the magician backstage would have told Penn and Teller they're right).
@dm00653 жыл бұрын
Yup, that was a misdirect. I think he wanted them to guess an assigned value sum kind of system, which is what Penn did. He would have been over the moon as soon as Penn was talking about counting and he could do it but not as fast. Ondrej knew it worked right then.

I think I figured it out. The deck is at first ordered in a way so that the memorable cards (ace, king, queen, joker) are all next to each in groups of four at the center of the deck. His bet was that she would cut the deck around the middle which is what most people do, and she did that. The deck is shuffled and handed back. The first search was to identify which of those sets of cards was missing one, and he identified it as the ace. You wouldn't need to check the numbered cards which is why it went so quickly. The second search was to count the number of cards for the two gaps between the three aces. In this case, the shuffling didn't separate two of them so he only had to remember one number. At the last ace he finds, you can see he cuts the deck and places the rest of the cards on the bottom. This puts one ace on top, and the other two the memorized number of cards in. He brought four beatles as a contingency. If he needed more time or another look, he could eat another one and "increase his power". So he had four chances to look at the cards, but luckily he only needed two. If she had cut the cards in an odd way, say a few cards in one pile and the majority in the other, she would have drawn a number card. He would have had to search the whole deck instead of just the memorable cards he put in the middle and probably would have needed another look. Finally, when he lays down the cards it seems like he also memorized their color, value, and suit to be able to lay them down in order. He lays the three cards down, stating what each is as he goes. When he picks them back up, he looks at them and places them down in a different order. This means it didn't matter where the cards were or in what order. To me it seems like Penn and Teller's explanation is pretty spot on, and I'm not sure he completely fooled them. It seems like they didn't think he could have searched for the missing card in the time he did and that he did something else, so maybe there is a little more to it and he did fool them. It took me several watch throughs to get this so I'll say you fooled me, I don't think I could do it like you did.

I think it is simple. The cards are made to be cut preferably in one spot. To be sure, around the centre of the deck before Alison initial cut, there are only Kings, Queens and Aces or so in the middle. She cuts, and puts one of these selected few cards under her butt. He goes through the cards TWICE and simply looks which of these 12 or 16 cards are missing. That is a skill that can be practiced. Then he just selects the three other cards to finish the trick.

I believe all the spade cards were placed in the middle of the deck. So he knew only a Spade was picked. When he went through the cards the first time he looked for which spade was missing, which I believe is quite possible out of 13 cards. The second time he went through the cards he memorized or tracked the rest 3 Aces to complete the end of trick.

I think he was saying that he forced her to pick the Ace of Spades, and how could he have done that if she picked the card without his vision even touching the deck? I don’t get it. He literally sat there and flipped through all the cards, twice. Couldn’t he have just looked for whatever card was missing and that’d be her card? (Penn even says he saw him looking through the cards and he was just able to do it faster than they could.) So what’s the “extra” part that fooled them?
@diegojacobo94875 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, when he goes through the cards he’s not actually scanning all the cards. As Penn says, he goes too fast for him to actually scan it. What he is doing is looking for where the Aces are to take them out of the deck and counting (this id why he takes out the first Ace then counts an x amount of cards without any explanation). Which means, he managed to somehow force Allison to pull the Ace of Spades from a random deck cut, and they didn’t understand how he did that. The same thing with his last performance, which also fooled them.

There is another guest magician who was previously on this show, also with East European origins, and also loudly threatened by Penn, who I suspect is highly relevant to the core part of this trick. That's not to say I know how either of them are able to do what they do, but in addition to being fooled, I am awed that anyone can develop the ability to do what I am guessing was done. There's also a thing at the very beginning that must be done and I have no idea how that was done, but it sounds like Penn did. I love the way Alison is so quick and able to make up and lob out little lines that helps everyone with the patter. My thought too, He ask her to cut the deck in two, now if the card are placed like 1-2-3-4-5-6 and you ask to have them cut and then the second half placed on top you can assume the card are 4-5-6 1-2-3, so i think the card are not shuffled that when he ask to split the deck and place the half on top and take the top card, you can assume that the number will be one wich was in the second split of the deck so you narrow all the deck by 50 pourcent or so, he probably know all the card that were in the second half of the deck that is now on top, and when he looks at all the cards, he KNOWS a bit what to look for, its pretty hard to explain with my broken english
@crazyivan17454 жыл бұрын
@@Alowne00 Kinda my thought, if you arrange the cards so that all four of each type of card are together in the middle of the deck. So we'll say all aces 2's 3's 4's are all clumped together in the middle of the deck, then the odds of it splitting on one of those is pretty high when forcing a cut. One of those will be on the top, have someone shuffle to hide the evidence. Now when you search the deck you are only looking for 16 cards instead of 52. After the first search he knew which card, the 2nd search was just memorizing where the other aces were once he knew it was an ace.

It's doable and he steered penn and teller to believe that's what it was but they said he done it faster than others could and would have to be a math genius. I think I know how it could be done. Something was very slightly unusual about him shaking Allison’s and Teller’s hands at the beginning. If he is putting invisible ink on their hands in this way, either Allison or Teller would just need to touch the bottom of the deck after Allison cut it, but before Teller shuffled it, to mark that card. Notice the deck was not shuffled in the beginning, so it could be stacked. By finding that marked bottom card, he would know what card was taken even AFTER it was shuffled. The second scanning was to find the location of the other Aces for the final draws at the end of the trick.

I think I may have an idea as to how you have done it. You had three beetles because you were gonna look through the deck three times. Given that there are 52 cards, you were first gonna count each of the Reds and Blacks. Then for the color with 25 cards, you would count the cards in each of the suites. Then with the suite with just 12 cards, you would figure out which one was missing. All the while, you would just have to memorize the location of a card from that color, suite, and number. In each iteration, you would've counted the cards, and memorized the location of a card. But given that the Ace of Spades is a rather noticeable missing card, you were able to do it in just 2 iterations. I hope I guessed it. But I loved the trick nonetheless.
