This is the best video I've seen on power and control with the driver!! From the grip and the takeaway, to impact and into the follow through. Perhaps the best part is when you say make sure that the grip is set to the side and not placed as you set the club to the ground. How many of us have fallen into that snake pit?! Believing we're correct as we set the club into dozens of different flawed positions!! This one factor automatically improves the swing. Then, you dig deep into the feels that make each segment come alive. The feeling of extending from the left foot and leg and spiraling tall in your backswing. Your point of how players tie themselves into a straight jacket of static positions is spot on. They fail to realize that by placing themselves in the most athletic position possible, the sequence of extending and leveraging the ground can happen automatically. As an extra bonus, you then have the student do the impact leveraging drill. This ensures that from this extended position, the player fully utilizes all the power at his command. THIS VIDEO IS TOP NOTCH!! It makes a player want to jump off the couch and run to the practice range. Keep this great content coming.

Thank you! For past 3 years I’ve struggled with losing speed & distance. Can’t even say how many videos I’ve watched during that period while trying to find out where that bottleneck is. Then seeing this video and especially the grip part. Instant results!!! Previously my drives were 220-240 yds (carry) with spinrate + 3500rpm. Pretty sure you can already visualize that ball flight. After watching this videa, baby draws with a 270 carry, 290 total and spin between 2200-2500. I can only say massive Thanks for posting this video and helping me get my lost distance back!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Although I have viewed this video before Giles and gave it a like, I never commented on it and will do so now. I have to admit, after viewing the grip section, I've been gripping with the left hand ever so slightly off the side of the shaft. My right hand grip is as it should be. I have gone back and made the correction to the left hand and the swing feels a lot more solid. I like your recommendation for getting the legs involved in the swing. Likewise in getting the hips involved by "squeezing the glutes" together. The drill you showed to do this will be one I will start doing. Both of these recommendations plus the grip correction will be worked on in order for me to attain more clubhead speed. Well Done As Always Giles!

Giles, I found this video again after watching a veritable parade of your other videos. Ironically, I think your best speed suggestion is your club to the belly button drill. You advised me to do this past parallel and the coil is INSANE. And to think I thought I was coiling before!! There is no contest. That is the best speed tip ever. By the best instructor I've ever seen.

Hey Giles I love your videos and you clearly have the heart of a teacher, so bravo mate. I occasionally will start shanking balls with short wedges 54 & 58 degree clubs for no explicable reason ! As you might imagine this is a confidence killer and drives me nuts. So, how about a video on the causes and cure of this problem. Keep up the great work.

also enjoying your video, easy to follow. I have a question on the backswing, while you feel you push up with your right leg, do you still have a bend on the knee or straighten out completely at the back swing.?

For us senior golfers, clearing the hips and squeezing the checks might not be that achievable, do you have any tips / advice for us? Bernhard Langer comes to mind, what he's able to achieve at 65. Thanks.
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf Жыл бұрын
Believe it or not but the first tip I heard this was from Freddie couples. For senior players squeeze the cheeks is a great thought and they would then have less rotation to match their flexibility levels

Be mindful about clearing your hips through impact too much clearance or opening of the hips from the upper body will reduce speed - Good foot work is my biggest key thought when I’m working on speed - but well done - information on the grip was good

@@Gilesgillgolf brutal isn’t it😂😂 I’m 35, when I was trying to make it out on tour 12-13 years ago there was hardly anyone with the mindset of ‘just bomb it’ everyone was trying to keep it in play, shape the ball ETC. To hit the ball long you need somewhat decent fundamentals anyway so they tend not to be that wild off the tee either

Disagree, Never raise your head. Rotating the hips and straightening the right leg while bending the left leg is necessary but raising the head changes your posture/setup position. Trying to require that position during the downswing, once you have lost it is all but impossible. In your demonstration your head shifted to your right side and slightly even farther right thru impact but never raised up. Good swing...

Go look at Bryson after making his massive speed gains. You will see the head raise up due to him using his legs.
