It’s called a leitmotif. A melody that identifies with a certain character, and can be used in different keys for expressing different emotions. Think John Williams’ Darth Vader Theme or Indiana Jones Theme.

Yeah, films from the '70s, '80s, '90s, and early 2000s had some serious magic back in the day, and incredibly enough "The Running Man" resonates even more today than it did in 1987. And come to think of it, excessive PC Culture in everything in general, excessive censoring, and stuff makes me think that in a way we are now living inside a "dystopia" like many writers and novelists imagined at the time. Of course, there is no "Running Man" TV show, nor are we eating "Soylent Green" yet, but we are inside a dystopia.
