I was there too. What a great memory. After the show-Saw Gillian and David exiting stage out back of tent. We ran up to chat. They were super nice. Others were getting autographs. I had nothing for them to sign, so I picked up a broken two by four piece of scrap lumber from building the stage. They signed that. I still have it. Gillian looked at me with a side eye, we both laughed, and she signed it. Good times. Hearing Revelator before it’s released was epic. Loved it

Thank you for posting this! Real country music has been hard to find since about 95' or so. Dave is one with that guitar, that's for sure!

So lovely to see them live about 3 years before I discovered them with Time the R. A nightcap for me tonight; I will sleep well for sure...

Very cool. This video was recorded two days before _Time (The Revelator)_ was released. I had the good fortune to see them regularly around this period (after _Hell Among the Yearlings_ , but before _Revelator_ ). This was when you could still see them in small venues in Nashville like the Station Inn, Exit/In, etc. They'd throw in some Radiohead or Tom Petty covers and then break out unreleased new material like "Revelator" and just blow your mind. They sat on material for a long time too. "Look at Miss Ohio" and "The Way It Will Be" were around for years before they were recorded and released.

Thank you for this comment and lucky you for seeing them in that early period. Easily one of my fave artists of the past 20some years

Saw them in a historic church in Cheraw, SC, in 1996. I still have the ticket. I remember them unloading their meager equipment from the trunk of an old 1970s Chevy like the kind featured in a recent video of theirs.

They were driving that thing well into the 2000s. I don't know if it's still around but it was easy to spot at different venues around Nashville when I lived there.

I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that this is a great video, it's not; the sound quality is pretty poor and there are people walking in front of the camera throughout. The important thing is that it is YOUR video that you recorded, and I thank you for sharing it with us. It does have something pretty cool that I noticed: Gillian mentions something about cellphones being held up in place of lighters as a new thing, which marks a historic change in technology at the time.

Gillian Welch, & he is David Rawlings. Her name is pronounced like Gilligan, but without the 2nd g.
