They're so damn good it sounds like a studio recording. This is music.

Pat Pattison sent me here. What a voice, what a tone, the arrangement is beautiful, great plucked strings. The harmonies.. wowwww. I love it

One of my absolute faves from them, along with "Orphan Girl", "Red Clay Halo", "Sing That Rock and Roll", and their (THE BEST of all of them!) cover of "Railroad Bill" ("Ride Ride")!!

Saw Gillian and Dave in Nashville many moons ago. This song was freshly written then and is timeless still as is Orphan Girl, Annabelle, Caleb Meyer, Paper Wings, Red Clay Halo......

Picking peaches in Arkansas in 1973, driving over from Texas to do that, and seeing how a little Mexican gal could pick faster and better than any of us who drove over from Austin, Seguin, and San Marcos...well it seems like a thousand years ago. At least I did get back to the red dirt and Blue Ridge in the end. Anyway, great song, thanks Gillian and David.

I didn't. In fact, this is as far from my normal listening experience as you can come (metal and synth stuff), but I believe that if you're a musician you should feel like all music has merit - something that's worth taking away from it.

"One More Dollar" A long time ago left my home For job in the fruit trees But I miss those hills with the windy pines Their song seemed to suit me So I sent my wages to my home Said, we'd soon be 'gether For the next good crop, pay my way And I'd come home forever One more dime to show for my day One more dollar and I'm on my way When I reach those hills, boys, I'll never roam 'Cause one more dollar and I'm going home No work, said the boss at bunkhouse door There's freeze on the branches So when the dice came out at bar downtown I rolled and took my chances One more dime to show for my day One more dollar and I'm on my way When I reach those hills, boys, I'll never roam 'Cause one more dollar and I'm going home A long time ago left my home Just a boy passing twenty Could you spare a coin and a Christian prayer My luck has turned against me One more dime to show for my day One more dollar and I'm on my way When I reach those hills, boys, I'll never roam Just one more dollar and I'm going home One more dollar, boys, I'm going home

Songwriting that draws you in to the emotions evoked by being on a journey for something material and all the while thinking of home and missing home. Struggling with the notion that the dollars and luck will run out at some point. I feel the writer's concern that maybe the musical journey might end...seems to be a universal concern. Coursera still going strong many years later. Grateful.

They did 4 songs at this Prairie Home Companion show, which was never released officially - in order, Orphan Girl, Acony Bell, Caleb Meyer, and One More Dollar. I've posted Orphan Girl from this show on YT as well (it's also on the APHC-Duets collection) and may post the other two songs in the future. They've done a few APHC's over the years, many available for streaming on the show's site. I don't think this one is, however. And I agree, these songs are better stripped down than on Revival.

Lot of beauty here. As usual, David is masterful on his old Epiphone guitar, nice flourish around 1:50 and a great lead break starting at 2:47, right through into the last verse. And Gillian's vocal inflections on the last verse are heavenly.

Hello Coursera - Verse is verse, it's all in the construction. Though none of the songs on this quiz were to my liking. They just don't speak to me, emotionally. Technically, yes.
