A great take. There seems to be ex-players disrespecting their older generations for different reasons. Gil simply doesn't know what was going on in the 90's or before that, because he doesn't even know what was going on in his own era. Then there's people like JJ Redick, who want to keep pleasing their teammates, and therefore keep throwing mud on earlier eras. And people like Kendrick Perkins, who gets to vote for NBA-awards, in exchange for endorsing the current era.

Mike played young Kobe, Ray Allen, Iverson. We remember young AI crossing him up. They were young, but still elites talents on the rise. People really sleep on Drexler. Dude was a beast. I think most modern guards would rather be guarded by Luka, than a Tony Allen all game. For this generation a prime Kawhi. So talking all Gil not talking about weren’t rules and defense making it harder to score, than in today’s era. Was prime Kawhi better than Luka, probably not. But he was an off the ball player. Luka is basically dominating the ball all game. So again, some of these dudes will use stats, without taking everything into context. Luka top averaged in EuroLeague was 19 ppg. He averaged almost 21 ppg his rookie year. Does that mean EuroLeague is better? No it means the rules, spacing and defensive intensity of players makes it harder to score. Luka said it’s easier to score in the NBA. He said he takes advantage of modern 3 second rules, not available in the 90s NBA or EuroLeague. Rather it wasn’t really enforced in the 90s. A big man could chill in the paint and stay there for anyone coming in. That’s doesn’t exist now. These young Tik Tok dudes only want to use partial facts, that benefit their argument.

It's so easy to push a narrative by cherry picking specific games and plays. Go look up "LeBron Literally Complained More Times than he Played Defense: Lakers / Nets Jan 19 2024" by Angry Old Hoops. You can see LeBron refusing to play defense, complaining after every FGA, quitting on plays, IN JUST A SINGLE QUARTER. And let's not ignore the fact that teams strategy against LeBron was basically daring him to attempt a jumpshot while he was in his prime.

Pete Maravich LITERALLY was working on "skill training" in the late 50's and early to mid 60's as a kid..He got ridiculed by others for working on unorthodox skills. They'd call it "circus act" basketball. Maravich would later put out VHS tapes in the 80s called "Homework Basketball"...That's one example of many from guys who did their era's version of "skill work"...He even came out with a movie "The Pistol: Birth of A Legend" depicting his childhood and his crazy skill and workout routines. I'm ok with young guys being "done with 80s and 90s" i just believe its unfortunate they are done with "facts" and "thruthful history". Shitting on Legends just seems like the popular thing to do in today's society. Fans do this all the time in boxing as well. I've watched everything from 80s to 2020s , missed shots , hitting side of backboard, bad players looking good , poor defense you ca find that in any given game on any given day yall be so clueless

I watched all those mid 80s and early 90s games live. The league was smaller, meaning it was more difficult to get a roster spot than today. The players played without traveling and carrying. Go watch the 1989 All-Star game. It's night and day compared to the 2024 All-Star game.

LeBuster lost 6 times in the finals with the easier Eastern Conference run every year. LePeon never made it to the finals without a Top 75 teammate. Meanwhile MJ won 6/6 with 6 finals MVPs a true winner in competitive basketball. Kobe, after Shaq leaves, goes to 3 straight NBA finals and WON 2 BACK TO BACK going against the toughest Western Conference in decades with ZERO top 75 players/all stars on his team. (Pau Gasol became an all star after Kobe elevated his game). Never forget Dwade and LeJealous calling each other up after Kobe won his 5th to team up outa jealousy🤣 2 years later CP3 trade to Lakers gets denied? Yeah aight...😂 Why else would LeBitch come to LA when Kobe retired? iykyk💯media runs ain't brainwashing me DHZ🗣

Grant Hill didn't say AT ALL that Kobe was the first player he seen working on his skills. He said he'd never seen someone so dedicated at improving his skills cause he saw him working for hours and obsessively on a few specific things. That shocked him cause Kobe was 18-19 at the time and he, already an All-Star, was not as dedicated. Very different things. And Kobe was from another world. Not one motherfucker worked then and ain't working now as hard and obsessively as Kobe did.
