8 was clearly the better player. He had everything. And that was pre injury Kobe. The numbers speak for themselves but the way in which he got those numbers was incredible to watch. The 2001 playoffs was probably his best run. Averaged 35 against Sacramento in four games. Averaged 33 7 and 7 against San Antonio in the western finals. Scored 81, scored 62 in three quarters against Dallas, number 8 may possibly the best player in league history in terms of offensive output. His nine straight games of 40 plus was also as number 8. 24 was well polished and somewhat of the final product but number 8 was an assassin.

I love this game! Kobe was one of my favorites to watch. With his mindset, a prime Kobe would score 100 in a game in this era. I’m not even talking about his skill level. Just his mentality. I’ve never been a fanboy, I’ve had my favorites over the past generations, not all were all time greats. It was more how they played the game, the will to win, out working everyone else and always working to improve their craft. Kobe from that regard ranks in my top 3. MJ Bird Kobe simply ranked their mentality and love and respect for the game.

Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."@@user-eo7df6mg9x

Used to hate the Lakers in the early 2000's when Shaq was still in L.A on the team. Wanted the Kings to beat them so bad in (2002 West Finals). Never became a Lakers fan, not one till this day. I became a Kobe Fan after two things though. When Kobe went through his court case in (2003 - Colorado) and won the case and they found him not guilty. When Shaq was traded to Miami Heat in (2004). Kobe started to go on his road to redemption after Shaq left and he became the leader as (#24) that he never was as (#8). Read articles in magazines and online about Kobe's upbringing and how he was isolated as kid and didn't fit in with the crowd at school as a kid. I started to relate to Kobe's story and that's what made me a Kobe Fan 20 years ago "04".

The Lakers vs Knicks game Gil was referring to was the 2005 season. Kobe had hit a game-tying 3 to force overtime. And then at the end of overtime, the Lakers were down two and Kobe passed it to Luke Walton who then immediately passed it right back to Kobe in traffic under the basket and they didn't even get a shot off. And Kobe bounced the ball hard on the floor in anger since the clock had expired. It was 2005. Kobe with 30 points.

I love how Gil and these guys are keeping Kobe's legacy alive. People want to downplay Kobe, but when you actually have real basketball players that played against him tell you that he is different just like how Jordan was that's a more credible source of the information then the casual fans

This goes beyond respect into reverence. When your peers speak on your name like you’re not flesh and blood like they are, that’s when you know you’ve made it. Only two men in the NBA in our lives gained this reverence. MJ and Kobe. Kobe > lebron

Kobe was the last of the warriors of the NBA, we won’t see it again in our lifetime…not with the current state and direction of the NBA. Dudes want to be gifted greatness instead of working for it.

I love Kenyon's point about doing the work. I once worked in a clinic run by a former Military police officer. Could his verbal delivery be nicer, sure. But he wasn't wrong. Every critique, every thing he said you fell short, he was dead on. So you either stepped up your game and took care of the patient or get the f@#% out of his clinic. I was there 3+ years till we had to move for family reasons. I still strive for that standard daily

People tend to look at accomplishments and accolades and measure the success on that platform. But people have gravitated Kobe immensely because he also failed, struggled and went through adversity as a player. It’s the human element that has attracted so many players. Even the younger generation who have never seen Kobe play is resonating. Kobe is the true success story

I just wish we new the recipe BEFORE… it’s so much easier to become great when you UNDERSTAND HOW and UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CAN. I was a child of immigrant academics and we really didn’t know anything about sports until 1-2 years after My peers who went to the league KNEW the Hows, Whens, Wheres, and Whys, and despite all that… KOBE OUTCLASSED EVERYONE FROM BIRTH WITH THAT INNATE MAMBA Mindset We can duplicate it to the best of our ability, and/or work better because of its inspiration… but to Be Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant without having their Killer Instinct as an Inspiration is what makes them LEGENDARY
