My guitar teacher was actually from the scene. He showed me his stuff when I was 17.. so far got stuck with Screamo. I am 22 years old now, I did some Screamo songs while I was in school with a friend of mine. I played the guitar and was screaming my lungs out and he made some drum beats with his computer, he is a Hip-Hop Guy and always was making Beats on his Computer. I quit the guitar for a while and just started playing half a year ago again. I want to make some Screamo again now, I am just happy there are still people keeping the scene alive !! Anyways that show changed my life. Im a drummer... I've gone onto playing music ever since. Was in a screamo band called days become months. One of my absolute favorite albums is Ulises by Viva Belgrado although I think it really crosses that boundary out of screamo and into post-hardcore. I'm fairly new to the genre still and enjoyed learning about all these bands I hadn't heard of before.
@danielmolina43502 жыл бұрын
Suis la lune is probably one of the best bands out there. That album is so raw and the production is so dirty... Check all the new compilations that they released now because they just release a new discography vinyl compilation box, they have nice old songs all put together. And Viva Belgrado's first influence you can tell only by hearing them that it's Suis la Lune, Ulises is a very good album but Flores, Carne is outstanding.

I heard a few songs from Envy as my first exposure to screamo and really didn't care for it initially. A few months later, I was looking at the charts for "powerviolence" genre after being super impressed with powerviolence/grind band called Full of Hell. Orchid came up and I listened to both of those albums mostly just perplexed and confused, but yet something kept drawing me back in. And then I was hooked. Orchid's final album (Gatefold) is probably my favorite screamo album. Some of their stuff from splits/b-sides/unreleased material that appeared on the "Totality" compilation was actually quite different from "Chaos is Me", "Dance Tonight! Revolution Tomorrow“ or "Gatefold". The stuff on "Totality" is more like straight up grindcore but with a bit of emo/screamo influence.

Great video and I must admit these bands were news to me, I will have to check them out. Looking forward to what your recommendations are for hardcore and post-hardcore. I was wondering if you were into some of the more melodic post-rock stuff? A couple of bands I'm really liking are Totorro and Brontide.

I think I would consider Alexisonfire post-hardcore, although the argument could be made that their first album was screamo. In general I think their pop sensibilities exclude them from traditional screamo bands, same goes for groups like Silverstein.

Carlos Olguin I think what you’d describe as “pop-screamo” was really more like modern post-hardcore with a poppy spin. The clueless mainstream rock press erroneously called bands like Thursday and Glassjaw screamo because they had heard the term but didn’t really know about the underground scene it came from. They just needed a way of differentiating the slightly heavier stuff from bands like Dashboard and Taking Back Sunday.

Honestly those two genres can be combined. Post-hardcore is hardcore with more melody to it (leaning toward rock/alternative), not necessarily in the vocals but that definitely happens, while screamo is generally octave chords and based around screaming. Bands like Envy mix the post-hardcore leanings with screamo.
