While it is true that gimp doesn't compete in this, you are putting ai inpainting against gimp "heal selection" algorithm. In time, gimp will probably integrate some sort of ai inpainting tool, but there are already standalone tools like lama ai cleaner etc, some even os-compatible

Just because something is free doesn't mean it's better or takes a "W." Let's be completely honest... if it takes me 5-10 minutes and a YT tutorial to figure out how to add a stroke to text, that's an L. Gimp needs to do some research on the most basic, braindead functions PS can do and at least attempt to replicate it. Funny thing about intellectual property... if your coders are worth the money you pay them, they can figure out how to do the same things as PS without the same code and not deal with infringement issues.
