My mic doesn't sound very good (tech glitch), but Gin's is fine. Jump to specific topics using the timestamps below!

About this video:
Gin Stephens is a prolific author of several books about intermittent fasting, including the best-seller “Fast. Feast. Repeat.” She also has a podcast, a blog, and a thriving fasting community. In episode 29 of The FastingWell Podcast she was kind enough to join me for a far-ranging interview / discussion about intermittent fasting. Unfortunately, there was a technical glitch and my voice doesn’t sound great. But when Gin is talking the audio is just fine, so feel free to focus on those sections. I’ll add timestamps so you can easily jump to specific topics if you wanna skip past the fuzzier parts, and just hear what she has to say.

Clean fasting definitely works for me! Consistency has been my battle over the years. We have 6 birthdays in less than 2 months coming up in the middle of the holidays. Thankfully they don't expect cake and really enjoy healthy meals.

I agree - I was excited about fasting a few years ago, read some books, and so did Bulletproof coffee and really did find it helped me not be hungry during my fasts - I was doing mostly 20:4', and I lost 10 lbs. Then plateaued for about 3 months, tried extending my fasts, actually did a 76 hour fast and still no movement on that scale and was feeling less than ideal. So I stopped fasting because I was doing it for the weight loss primarily but also hoping to avoid diabetes. Believed in the science, but figured I was too metabolically messed up from 30 yrs of dieting and obesity for it to work for me. Two years later, read several of Gin's books and listed to her podcast, decided to fast clean, and am now trucking along, losing weight steadily and slowly, and most of all, I feel amazing and fasting is actually easier for me while doing a clean fast, than it was when I was putting ketones and butter in my coffee. Lesson learned - I think I'm in this for the lifestyle this time and am very hopeful and happy. Thank you Gin - best thing to happen to my understanding of how to make fasting work for me was your advice!

I've been intermittent fasting for 6 months and lost 45 lbs. I used ASV to surpress my appetite. My eating window was between 10 am to 6 pm. But it varies to a smaller window now. I'm expecting to lose 65 lbs march 1st. Bob k.

I'm currently in a situation in which I can only drink instant coffee. Does that count as black coffee if I don't put anything in it? The coffee is called "Kenco Smooth Instant" from Tesco UK. Thank you!

I don't know much about instant coffee, but I'm guessing it's probably fine. As long as they don't add additional caloric stuff, sweeteners, etc then I assume it's similar to black coffee (?)

People say they want to fast... but then they look for loopholes. It's funny...and sad. I've decided, I'm in it to win it. I just did a short for my family about black coffee, because one of my cousins said... it didn't work for me. Come to find out... she is putting cream in her coffee. Whoops! lol

Celebrating food is idolatry, celebrate God not food. Don’t make food a god. The original ADF sounds too restrictive with 500 calories and the other definition of ADF “eat what you want” has no restrictions. Fast Clean Eat Clean but eat and let God be your God not food. Proverbs 3:5-6

Gin Stephen’s, amazing, knowledgeable, engaging - interviewer, not engaging, not amazing nor knowledgeable. The interviewer seems, in my opinion, to reiterate everything that, Gin, said! He is repeating and rewording…. Why? This lacked, on the part of the interviewer, any enthusiasm - I really wanted to hear what, Gin, had to say but I was so unimpressed with the interviewer that I had to stop halfway through ….. this is a really disappointing interview and it could’ve been absolutely amazing if the interviewer had asked the question, got the answer, then asked another question, instead of mulling over what had already been said! To a degree, this is boring, and it wasn’t, Gin, that was boring :-(
