Salt is a SUPER-important topic for anyone who’s fasting, or eating low-carb. Salt is also very important for overall health. That's why today I'm sharing a detailed summary of the book, The Salt Fix (by Dr. James DiNicolantonio).
This summary will help you understand why much of what you've heard about salt may be wrong, where the salt restriction guidelines came from, why it's better and healthier to eat all the salt you crave (at least for most people), and some specific ideas about how to put this info in practice.

OMG! Thank-you for this information, I have always been trying to avoid salt and some foods taste bland. I pee a lot and didn’t understand why, I fast every day so thought my fatigue was from that, but I love and need to fast. I just read that Brook Shields had a seizure from low sodium. Iodine also can cause thyroid problems. I will monitor my salt more closely and keep trying to delete the sugar even more. Good info.

What about blood pressure medications and salt? On carnivore
@FastingWell
@FastingWell Ай бұрын
Some blood pressure medications cause people to pee out more sodium and other electrolytes, for example. Which can lower the salt level in the body, and cause other effects, some of which I explained in this video. If your question wasn't answered in the video, you might want to check out the original book 🙂 *General disclaimer: nothing I share online should be considered individual medical advice as I don't know all your circumstances

I’m meat based diet, no grains, no sugar, no veggie. I do eat a few fruits. Recently my BP shot up very high range. I went from zero BP meds to now on 3 meds as it took that many to get BP down…..and it was suggested I limit salt as well as potassium due to my very low kidney function (eGFR 55). Now what?.

Things get more complicated when the kidneys are not working well. And there may be other underlying medical issues. So I would work closely with your doctors, and try to balance the different recommendations and research available. Best of luck! *As always, this is not individual medical advice, as I do not know all your circumstances.

if i only have access to refined iodized sea salt (without additives, just instead of giving you the full grains, it's refined, but without anticaking agents and chemical proccess), is it better to have a low sodium diet or to follow this recomendations with this type of salt?

If you have pure legitimate salt such as pink Himalayan salt (NO FLUORIDE) check the ingredients and make sure it’s just salt, also redmond salt is pure, that type of salt is beneficial

I think on balance it's probably best to get adequate salt, even if you don't have the best possible source. The benefits of doing so probably outweigh the risks. 🙂 (As always, this is not individual medical advice)

Sorry to hear that. 😕 I think it might depend on the device you're using, to some extent. But I will keep it in mind.
