@LuthienofDoriath Actually, I know someone who worked with the original cast as a technician. Sarah had recorded the entire Phantom of the Opera cadenza and the think of me one as well- it would ruin her voice being sung so much. She actually sung the songs whenever she wanted. Also, Claire Moore's last note was so different from Sarah's... and it actually does sound like Sarah.

@lilanthia I have to agree about Simon Bailey. Though he is talented actor, his portrayal of Raoul wasn't the best. Maybe he personally added this more patronizing tone so the audience would be geared more for the Phantom and Christine (I saw Tabitha Webb perform on a tues mat last January.)

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that contemporary audiences percieve a legit soprano sound as "old" or "operatic" regardless of whether or not it is. Or at least casting directors think that audiences think so! I think that a lot of the London Christines are encouraged to sing "softer" for that reason. I appriciate both types though. The score is pop and isn't sung like opera It can be sung with a poppy emphasis or a more classical bent

i think she had only been in it for a month or so when this was recorded cause its definately not the best TOM or WYWSHA ive heard from her. she is absolutely amazing now. everytime i see her, her voice gives me the biggest goosebumps!

@lilanthia I would have to agree. I saw Tabitha Webb on a tues mat last January, and I didn't really like his protrayal. Maybe, as time changes, they make changes to the character development so younger generations will feel more affection for the Phantom.

I think Gina Beck is a lovely Christine. Her voice is soothing and pleasent. That being said I disagree with the Disney voice comment. While yes Christine should have an innocent tone with some purity. I also think she should have a high timbre with classical pipes. No not an operatic tone like Carlotta has, but it still should be mesmerizing. Personally I find those who have these qualities make create the finest vocals for the character. Now before anybody jumps on me I'm not diissing Gina.

I never realized how different the dress was from the London version and Broadway version, actually very different, anyways, not my favorite Christine, she was pretty good, to me it sounded like she was going flat. And I didnt konw the end notes were different form the broadway version as well, or was that jsut her chanigng them?

I saw Gina play Christine in London last November, she was so good, what a voice! Simon Bailey struck me as a slightly patronizing Raoul though....

She's my favorite Christine together with Sierra...I hate, really HATE those bombastic opera-like christines...And yes, I know it's 'phantom of the OPERA', but Christine still is a young girl..and it's kinda unbelievable for a 20 year old girl to sound like that :)

I didn't like the last note I'm not going to lie. Much preferred Sierra's interpretation of it. Having said that Gina is AMAZING!!

She's the first singer ever to equal Sierra in this role...at least, that's my opinion :D She has a perfect vibrato, and her voice is so light and pure :)
