So, the gaming/streaming companies were not satisfied with it profits from the wide range of gaming and streaming audiences. To those everyday joes/ janes who choose to play as an escape or relaxation, the gaming companies are treating them hostages. Pay up or lose it altogether, it seems. Gamers need to start voicing their anger towards this shakedown by gaming and streaming companies! Their greed knows no end, and unless we as a united group do something about it, it will continue. It's been like this for over 20 years now sadly. Many games need an installer to check it's legit, a 'phone home' thing. Then there's always online things and the 'live service' stuff. It's really not surprising that piracy is still going on, especially when things like Denuvo have been shown to not just dramatically reduce fps on games, it's also 'wearing out' hardware like ssds faster. Then there's how so many imbed themselves so deeply into computers, so if the anticheat ever gets exploited it would be catastrophic (we're talking kernel level access for many of them). Oh, and they often don't even work/get bypassed.

I hadn't purchased a game since the 1990s. A few years back, a new game from the Monkey Island series was produced, designed by the original designers. I went to a video game store to purchase it, expecting a box, with a disk, and some fun objects, as once was. I was told to 'access it' on-line. Take my money, & have naught to show for it? Yeah, nah...

My little brain was blown by the revelation that I may own the physical DVD of a movie, but the movie itself I don't own, but license. This would include CDs, which I still love. And this is worldwide. This means all our governments are complicent with this fraud. But how likely will the law be corrected? And if it is, will it mean the end of all physical media?

@@GeorgeTheGiantSlayer Thankyou for the great content you put out mate, yes it’s getting to the point that recently there has been a debate as to whether national service or conscription as it’s known should be bought back given the incredibly low numbers, it’s so low that as it stands the serving individuals across all services Royal Navy, Army and the Royal Air Force can just about fill up Wembley stadium, as for the DEI stuff well that is a story in itself which is contributing to the low numbers

What Good Lawgic was talking about in regards to the corruption of Democracy sounds very similar to Polybius's observations of government. He theorised that Monarchy after several generations descends into Tyranny, to be replaced by an Aristocracy that would eventually descend into Oligarchy, which would in turn be replaced by Democracy which would (and we are seeing it happen in the present day) descend into Ochlocracy (mob rule), only for the cycle to renew (unlikely).

This is 100% why they made the switch to digital distribution. So long as Physical Media existed, they would lose the court battles they would get into by denying access to games they sold in stores. Retail Stores would not take refunds for opened games, because the product key was no longer any use after it had been claimed by someone else. Also, how can you be held to a contract that you can't see until after you've completed the purchase and installed the product?
