Colin keeps focusing on the pronoun joke that Gina made but keeps avoiding the fact that what broke the camel’s back and got her fired was comparing being republican to being a Jew in the holocaust.
@MrHellawicked9 ай бұрын
Yep. And there has been precedence for it. I remember years ago Megan Fox got fired because she compared Michael Bay to Hitler on the set. As soon as Spielberg heard the interview he ordered her fired. Whether it's right or wrong it's nothing new - compare yourself to a holocaust victim in Hollywood is always an instant fire.

@gogglebrains9 ай бұрын
1. Comparing =/= equating. To falsely equate two scenarios is to attempt to gloss over, obfuscate, or deny the distinctions between them (Gina Carano did no such thing). To compare and contrast two scenarios is a fundamental and essential process of moral critical thinking. 2. The comparison she made wasn't between treatment of Republicans in current-year with treatment of Jews at the height of the Holocaust, but rather with the period of escalating intolerance, anger, and polarization that preceded it. This actual relation is hard to dispute given that most political/social scientists (left, right, and center) agree that American politics have rapidly polarized over the last decade or so. 3. Regardless of the inelegance of her rhetoric, Carano's point was explicitly in opposition to growing intolerance. The unambiguous wrongness of racial/ethnic intolerance was a basic and unmistakable presupposition of her entire statement, making Disney's statements about her explicitly defamatory. 4. The Mandalorian himself tweeted around the same time comparing (even less thoughtfully) migrants detained in Obama-era detention facilities under an Obama-era policy for knowingly crossing the US border illegally, to Jews detained if not murdered in Holocaust concentration camps for the crime of their ethnicity. For this hamhanded analogy he faced no consequences whatsoever. 5. Other (much more expendable) Lucasfilm employees around the same time openly tweeted explicitly racially-hateful sentiments and faced no consequences whatsoever. The great irony is that in their rabid eagerness to assume such ludicrously uncharitable (if not outright incorrect) interpretations of her remarks, many (Disney included) unwittingly demonstrated Gina's point. Everyone is too ready and willing to hate each other these days, usually to make a big performance out of it, especially online, especially when it comes to politics. Instead maybe we could pump the brakes and practice giving the people we dislike or disagree with the benefit of the doubt.

Gina said things that Disney didn't want her to say. They removed her which they are free to do. She can't be reinstated because she just had her contract terminated. Its a dumb lawsuit and if you think she's just, you're out of your minds. Colin, you don't have to go against these kinds of topics every chance you get, especially when you know Disney had every right to fire her if they wanted to. They warned her, she continued and got her contract terminated. There's not much more to it.

2:40:39 Important to keep in mind that Disney/Marvel didn't hire James Gunn back because they looked at the tweets again and had a more rational take... The hired him back because literally the entire cast of Guardians 3 quit the production within like 48 hours of the announcement. Lmao the change of heart doesn't feel so generous when you realize they had a $100,000,000+ gun to their head.
@chris92069 ай бұрын
It's apples and oranges. Gina saw the tit for tat that happened between Roseanne jumping the gun and part of 4chan wanting to cancel Gunn over anything. The group on 4chan wanted to take out a Liberal under the Disney umbrella because Disney let go Roseanne for being too cringey. Going after James Gunn is like going after Clive Barker, James Carpenter, George Romero, and Wes Craven.

It's an interesting question of wether God cares for the reasons people do good. I had it explained to me this way: there is a verse in the Bible that talks about a man who prays where everyone can see him and another who prays in secret only to God. It was explained that in both situations both men got what they wanted the man got the praise from the people who saw him praying and the man who prayed in secret only to God received the praise of God. I believe God uses evil men who do good for the wrong reasons just as he uses those who's hearts are in the right place.

Colin, new sub here. Sorry for personal inject, sometimes dreams aren’t dreams. I teach my students that dreams can be one of three varieties: 1) the spirit/essence/soul of the human vessel is able to perceive eternity once the senses of the flesh are inactivated (weapons of mass distraction, man!) 2) late night Taco Bell forces the body to work (digestion) during the week hours when consciousness cannot regulate mental activity 3) waking anxieties feed over and govern wee hour mental activity It sounds crazy, but I have had dreams that are “prophetic” in nature, with witnesses to boot! You’re an insightful dude who undoubtedly has a spiritual calling. I won’t proselytize, but I see it dude! One of the reasons I listen to ya!!!

There is a big difference between comedians and actors. So the conversation talking about Gina Carano just going out and work like Shane Gillis is difficult to compare equally. Movies or TV shows are made up of multiple people, while people are going to see Shane’s live stand up. Rosanne show is a closer comparison, but people gotta keep in mind live stand up compared to film. Good conversation though.
