If you like Julie Newmar, find the three or four episodes of Route 66 that she guest starred in. She played a mystery girl that zoomed by Martin Milner in his Vette after first slowing down to give him a great smile. He could never quite catch up to her, mainly because there was always a cop around when he had to make fast moves to match what she was doing. Turned out she was a free spirit heiress that had a savvy lawyer following her--hired by her father's estate--to keep her out of trouble. He also helped the people like Milner that ran into trouble because of her. She was a gorgeous, totally unique character at the time. She was so popular that they kept bringing her back. George Maharis was also taking a break from the show (for a movie,) so they needed to change things up.

Tina Louise had to play a caricature. A movie star with a Marilyn Monroe accent. Dawn Wells was an innocent, playing an innocent. I think that's part of why Mary Ann is often preferred.
@stevescott29033 ай бұрын
According to what Ive read, Tina Louise didnt like the part nor did she get along particularly well with the rest of the cast. She'd be signed young by a major studio, "A Bomb" if you will, and that wasnt easy to deal with. That she got stuck playing a Poor Man's Marilyn combined with some serious dramatic training lead to a fair amount of unhappiness, aloofness. Regardless, Im a Mary-Anne guy. Down to earth Dawn Wells, who while lacking the Glamour considerably more depth and a true beauty in her own right.

My Living Doll, the Julie Newmar show where she played a beautiful robot, only ran one season, 1964-65, 26 total episodes. The 26 episodes were repeated once to fill out the year, but were never officially televised again. Never went into syndication and many of the episodes are now feared to be lost forever. One can find a few on KZbin. A Living Doll DVD was released that scraped together what could be found from old film, tapes, etc., that totaled 11 episodes (video quality is rather poor at times). The episodes though are quite good if you can find them - one can really see Julie Newmar in her element as someone with some comedic chops. The phrase "does not compute" comes from this show.

Hi Matt. I am hoping I can interest you in an idea for a video. I realize MASH was a 70's show, but the movie had a 60's vibe. I have always wanted to know everything there is to know about the T.V. version(s) of the theme song. How many times was it re-recorded during the 12 year run of the show, were some versions simply remixes of a previous years version, was it done in L.A., and if so, was it performed by members of the wrecking crew? A full rundown of the players on each version would be fantastic. I also feel that a T.V. themes video would be awesome for your channel, thanks DeanJonassen.
@popgoesthe60s523 ай бұрын
I don't have any info on the recording but any changes to the theme song over the 12 years were minimal. That was my fave show of the 70s and I have seen every episode. I wasn't a fan of the movie because the hair styles weren't period (a major faux pas) and I hate Elliot Gould. I will be judicial on how I cover any bands that were really more 70s bands than 60s and I will do the same with TV, though I did offer 100-song playlist of the best 1970s theme songs on my podcast. Of course MASH was included. Thanks for the request, Dean!

Sorry I missed the survey. As an 18 year old I'd have taken Ginger. As a grownup I'd marry Mary Ann and have Ginger on the side. Jeannie over Sam for sure because who wants their mother-in-law popping in while you're having a moment? Jeannie wasn't as demanding and was willing to serve as long as you gave her a little attention. Plus she wore those cute little Jeannie outfits. "Your wish is my command, Master." What a gal. A few others: Wilma Flintstone or Betty Rubble? Betty for me. Jane or Judy Jetson? I always liked Jane. Betty or Veronica? Nuts for Veronica but there's always room for Betty in my world. Annette or Sheryl Holdridge? Annette but you couldn't lose with either. Carol Post or Mr. Ed? Depending on my mood. Katie or Barbara Douglas? That's what Rob was thinking. Katie. Jennifer or Bailey? Oh, wow! That's what I said the first time I saw Loni Anderson. But Bailey rocks that nerdy hot stuff well. Eva or Zsa Zsa? Eva for sure but in her prime Zsa Zsa was pretty sharp. Audrey or Judy Landers? Both! Audrey if I had to choose. Cynthia or Yoko? Cyn, a real woman with talent. Thinking of Yoko made me throw up a little in my mouth. Millie or Lou Mallory? Millie for sure. Lou was a beauty but an annoying, pushy feminist. Lucas wouldn't have kept her for long. Agent 99 or Emma Peel? How do you choose? Agent 99 has a nice sense of humor and very loyal. A real keeper. Lassie or the Littlest Hobo? I refuse to make that choice. That's like choosing a favorite child. Mickey Mouse or Rat Fink? Mom thought Big Daddy Roth was a bad influence but turns out RF is a good guy, not the groomer. Patty or Cathy (Patty Duke Show) I prefer the down to earth Cathy to the vacant, teeny bopper Patty.

Bewitch was more like a dramedy. Some of the episodes were serious. It seemed like a show for adults. I mostly watched this show in reruns as an adult. Addams family vs The Munsters: When Gomez blew up the model train, I was hooked. The Munsters seemed like a regular show, but the Addams family had a strange humor that appealed to me. Later in life I saw a Marx brothers film. That is the source of the strange humor. The creator of the show worked with the Marx Brothers.Ginger vs Mary Ann: I had a dream where I was on a beach with Ginger and Mary Ann, We were all naked. Then ... I woke up. This is a tie.

great episode!. ginger vs. maryann.. both ladies gorgeous, shapely & very sexy. ginger demanded you want her mary anne didnt give ah shit AND could whip up a thanksgiving dinner. we men love pretty girls, especially those that can feed us as well! 😀 Jeanie vs Samantha? Samantha all the way!.. it helps that my father, a 35yr Boston Police Detective used to be tasked with security when celebs rolled into town on business. apparently she filmed a movie in the late '60s(?). he also had pilots license and was flying her to nantucket or marthas vineyard, one weekend my brother & i (6 & 3 yrs old-ish) went along & we ended up in her lap for an 8x10 that sat in his man cave for a lot of years. + 1 for samantha

When I was younger I went with Mary Ann but now it's definitely Ginger. Samantha over Jeannie but how about Samantha's sexy cousin Serena ?? She beats both!!

What we take for granted at our older age is how awful these shows were, and yet we watched them in their entirety and enjoyed every moment including the commercials. The obvious reason, no internet. Hard to explain to a younger generation who wouldn't make it past the first commercial break of these dull hackneyed, laugh track infused bombs. On the one hand Tik Tok and other forms of idiocy have replaced the moronic TV shows of the past, but when it comes to great comedy or drama, by and large we're living in a much much better time.

I disagree 100%. I’m 22 and find these shows worlds ahead of new shows and certainly did as a kid. Gillian’s Island was a favorite show when I was a kid!

@@michaelcrowley8339 Imagine a world of shows like Gilligan's Isle, 7 days a week. Sounds like an episode of a show from that era called The Twilight Zone. Only it was real. OK if you were a kid as I was when I enjoyed them, but a real nightmare with no alternative.

We got Bewitched in the UK in the 70s not I Dream of Jeannie
