Not sure how true this is but it’s a fun story. Back in the 90s studios really wanted to make Beetlejuice 2 but Tim wanted to do other things. However, every meeting they would bringing it up. So eventually Tim came in really excited about Beetlejuice 2 and gave them the script Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian which was awful but the execs wanted to keep him sweet so were like “this is great but it needs a little punch up before we green light it”. So it got passed round from writer to writer while Tim made his other films. He wrote a Beetlejuice sequel with the intention of sending it into production hell so they would stop bothering him to make one.

Beetlejuice 2 made $400m at the box office so at this point with the grave status of the industry, especially here in LA in particular, they're going to retreat to recycling nostalgia and adapt popular IPs to do anything and everything to find profits. Meanwhile, Terrifier 3 is absolutely shunned by just about everyone in said industry, and it's already looking to make 10x its budget in one box office weekend.

I agree with Jay, when that opening Danny Elfman theme started playing I was instantly enjoying myself. Plus, I was seated in one of those D-Box seats, so as the camera panned around the aerial shot of the town, the seat gently moved with the matching motion of the camera. So cool!

I'm not afraid to say I HATED this movie. I'm exhausted by all the reviews I've seen that freely point out all the things that's wrong with it and still give it a pass. For the record, and for context, I saw the original in the theatre back in 1988 and played it endlessly on VHS in the video store where I worked. I probably still know half of it by heart. I've also rewatched it as an adult, so there's no foggy memories there. The film's first misstep is right at the beginning, which recreates the opening shot without bothering to trade off from real life to Adam's model. It would have been much smarter and cooler to start with the miniature house, then pull backward over the whole miniature town, then *out the window* to continue over the *real* town until we land on Lydia driving in. And hey, speaking of Lydia, it would have been smarter and cooler not to rewrite her as a spineless doormat. Sure, we all get old and sad, but I rejected that take when the last Indiana Jones did it and I reject it here too. I know plenty of feisty 50-year-old goths who've kept their joy alive and that's what this movie needed, if only to contrast her with her daughter and get some dramatic conflict going. Meanwhile, what the heck with the needle-drops? The original featured exactly four songs, and they were all keyed to Adam's love of Belafonte numbers. The whole justification for the "Day-O" possession scene was that the Maitlands couldn't haunt effectively unless they drew on what they knew best. In the sequel, we get a musical possession just because the first movie did it, and playing through the freaking entirety of "MacArthur Park" was certainly somebody's choice-- it just wasn't a reflection of any of the characters. Speaking of characterization, can somebody please stop Tim Burton from signing off on scripts where everyone just babbles exposition to each other? There's barely any real dialogue here, and it's been a problem with his films for years now. And hey, Tim, knock off the daddy issues too. No movie needs *two* tragically absent father figures. The less said about casting your girlfriend as a literal soul-sucking witch, the better. I'm not here to tell innocent moviegoers that they didn't have a good time watching the sequel, but if all that really works about it is seeing Keaton, Ryder, and O'Hara back in character, a gag appearance on Kimmel would have achieved the same thing for free.

"Within these walls lies the evil spirit of a known Trickster-Demon, said to taunt those who dare trespass in his hallowed halls. I plan on uppercutting him out a window." And then Aaron would say, "Talk about spirit box." And then Zak would say, "Good one, Aaron."

@@AbbaZappaIt's more a "you can't say certain things even if they're relevant on social media" thing. KZbin has an unpublished list of words you can't say either alone or near each other or the whole comment gets deleted without warning. This applies to videos, but the video won't be deleted, only demonitized. KZbin has no problem monetizing videos that say these things for their own benefit, but the creator won't get paid, and anyone that repeats the exact thing the video says has their comments vanish. No list is available to know what you can't say, so if you were to spend 2 months making a video and say one of these words, oops, no money for you. They'll still run ads on it, but the creator doesn't get any of the revenue - only the website. So, you have to censor yourself if you want to actually make money off of your work. Imagine if there were rules at your place of work that if you broke them, you didn't get paid that day, but no one told you what they were. You'd still be allowed to work the whole day without notice you weren't getting paid for it, and even questioning what these rules were was against the rules. That's youtube these days.
