You can find and buy a used stock exhaust, buy the m4 slip on for it... It's 250-ish ... super fun project, as you have to cut the cat conv/muffler off the header pipes, with a hack saw, then clamp on the "slip on".

Hi Gina. Love the bike. I have a 2017 FZ-07 that I bought new from the dealer in 2018 (left over stock) when I was 50 years old. I ride as much as possible and can't wait for warmer weather here in Illinois to start my riding season. My bike is stock except for a fender eliminator, shorty brake and clutch levers, a radiator guard and a metal "windscreen". I noticed the catalytic converter on your exhaust was deleted. If you get a stock system, you will most likely get the cat with it. You may need to retune the bike after installing stock exhaust if the previous owner tuned it when he installed the aftermarket system. I also suggest looking at the air box/air filter and see if he made any modifications. Some people remove the snorkel to allow more air in. Can't wait to see more videos of you riding!

Gina on many exhaust mufflers you can add an internal baffle with more or less holes (restrictions) to "tune" the sound to your taste. My Suzuki Burgman 400 Maxi Scooter stock exhaust rusted out internally. They wanted $650 for a new one, and it was far too quiet. Long story short I grabbed a $100 Amazon slip on it is great quality. It was a bit loud, and had just a rear baffle. But they sell extra accessory baffles to go "up front" at the inlet, (where the 2 springs hold the muffler on). Adding THAT extra baffle was the key - now the exhaust tone & noise are perfect - louder than stock, but not at all obnoxious. And for $100 muffler + $20 extra baffle. $120 vs $650....just an idea for ya Ride safe, David in East Texas

After getting my zx14 (had a cat delete on it with not noise reduction insert on the exhaust) it was beyond being way to loud. The first thing I purchased is an insert that goes into the exhaust pipe before the muffler. It reduced the sound a huge amount. If you want to tame the sound these inserts aren't expensive but so well worth the time (and little money).

You've had trouble with Hondas? You must be unlucky.
@jeffweier48242 жыл бұрын
@@Apollo949 Yes I've owned 4 Honda's and all but one had had reliability issues. One had electrical problems (regulator rectifier), one had a cam chain tensioner problem (which was replaced under warranty) and the last one had the rear shock fail after only 30,000 klms. All were purchased new. The two Yamaha's and three Suzuki's had no reliability issues and in the case of the Suzuki Bandit 1250S that I owned it did triple the distance of any of the Honda's and no issues. Sorry if this upsets you but it is the truth.
@Apollo9492 жыл бұрын
@Jeff Weier It doesn't upset me. I had the rectifier go on a Honda VTR1000 Firestorm. This is a common problem with older Hondas, but generally, I've found them more reliable than the others, although I owned an FZ1 for 6 years without any reliability problems. They are prone to cosmetic damage and can look shabby if not religiously cleaned and polished. However, I'm first to agree that Kawasakis are a bad choice. Nothing but trouble with those, but I expect other riders to disagree.
@jeffweier48242 жыл бұрын
@@Apollo949 l agree that it's the older Honda's that had those issues. It was VTR for me with the regulator issue too. The best Honda I had was my 2013 VFR1200F which had bullet proof reliability and was an excellent machine. I only sold when l had to spend a long time away from riding due to ongoing treatments for my health that took a lot out of me. I've owned more Honda's than any other Japanese brand and the reliability problems were of a minor nature really. The one and only I had Kawasaki was a less than memorable bike.

Hello Gina, my name is Steve and I'm in Arizona I bought a 2019 Indian Chieftain Limited in March of 24', did my riding class a month before, so same boat as you. New rider, but not on 2 wheels, so a little different. The wind thing you gotta lean into the wind, don't hold the handlebars too tight but enough so you won't lose grip. The MT-07, the guy wanted the other bike but didn't want to give up the mods so he put cheap stuff on there. Oh and 9 months after i bought the Indian i got an XSR900, try to find demo rides and ride as many as you can. I really wanted the GSX-8R, but then I test rode it and that changed. But it got down to a MT-09 SP, Indian FTR carbon and the XSR900, i sat on all, they were REAL close, FTR not making anymore, and then ALL the comparison on you tube changed me to the XSR900. I did test ride a 400 Royal Enfield and the lacking of power was just that, sorry this is so looooong. Well glad you're ok, oh and at 1st when I got the Chieftain I didn't ride it for the 1st couple of months I had it, people asked why I wasn't riding it, "I said I was scared", they said why did you get it, "I said I'm scared that once I started riding, I always be on it" and now I have 2, thinking about a 3rd, ok this is good bye, see ya, Steve

Now you know why folks prefer to buy stock bikes - typically. Now, for exhaust options: Check out MT7 owner forums, folks that have "upgraded" their exhaust are usually sitting on their old parts and would like to sell them. So some forums have a swap meet section (but you have to be a member) for that reason. Ebay, Facebook market place or Craigslist are other options. In Phoenix we have a motorcycle salvage yard; you might have something similar near you. Have no idea what you have but if you can find out exactly what it is maybe they make a db killer insert you can toss in there to quiet things down. Good luck!
@GingerDashMoto2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen a few used exhaust systems on FB Marketplace, but haven’t bought one yet. Getting it is one thing, but getting it installed is more challenging. Local shops won’t install used parts. So…something to figure out.

@@GingerDashMoto Installing an exhaust can be a bit fiddly (in my experience for some reason getting the headers into the holes in the head can be a PITA) but does not require any special tools. I'd advise you to give it a whirl. Some independent shops will work with you or maybe you can find one of the mechanics to give you a hand after hours. Oh hey, that gal friend that has the Ducati might be able to help!

Congrats on your new bike! Blue bikes rock! :) (My blue CBR600 is my profile pic.) I feel for ya, Gina. This past summer I bought a used Nissan for my son. The dealership either didn't know or didn't tell me, but the transmission was on its very last leg, which we found out the first week we had it. And that was a $5K cost to replace immediately after buying the vehicle. So, it could be worse. My first bike was a Yamaha - a 750 Virago. That was a very reliable great all-around bike. I had my exhaust replaced on it while I owned it - back to the stock exhaust. This was years ago, but I remember that being around $500. But it was so worth it. I hope you get the chance to do that soon, too. To answer your question, sometimes guy will buy a naked bike because they don't feel comfortable on a sportbike. Then, they aren't happy with the naked bike, so they mod it out to make it more "sporty". But they usually end up ruining it. But that's just my $0.02. Anyway, that's a sweet MT-07 you have there! I hope you gets years of enjoyment out of it!
@GingerDashMoto2 жыл бұрын
I think that idea about the get wanting a sportier bike sounds pretty solid for those two cents! Sorry you had to deal with the transmission issue - ouch on the wallet for sure. nice bike i got to use one last year. only thing i hated (probably to harsh of a term) is i had to move a lot in order to see the speed. edit: can you repack or just pack the exhaust? if you can that should make it much quieter.

I haven’t noticed that so much yet…but I have barely ridden it. I’m still getting used to it. I do love how much I can see in the rear view mirrors - even if they do resemble big antennae. 😁

It has a lot of torque. Easy to see why someone who isn’t as overly responsible as I typically am could let it get away from them. Definitely requires finesse on the throttle. Having fun though. :)

I’m in the UK, but because a lot of people swap out their exhaust systems, you can get a complete (used) stock exhaust for a 2021/22 model from e-bay for less than £100. That’s about $120. Maybe check e-bay over there for one. Worth it to enjoy your bike again. The fender kit is unfortunate, but lesson learned. Re: the exhaust, in the UK there are consumer protection laws against mis-selling and misrepresentation. Do you have the same type of laws there? Is that an angle you could pursue?

It’s more annoying sound wise in person and when you’re hard on the throttle. I’m spoiled also since I didn’t need earplugs with the Suzuki. 🤣

Excellent choice, although you could have gone for the Triumph 660 trident, KTM 700 duke. The MT-07 is used by a lot of motorcycle training centers here in Europe because it's a good bike.
@geofffoster68722 жыл бұрын
Gina, nice bike, shame about the exhaust! A potential solution to its sound is if you don’t already wear earplugs then buy some 3m earplugs and take a ride wearing them. Two things, they will make your exhaust sound different and protect your hearing for mere pennies!
@GingerDashMoto2 жыл бұрын
Good suggestion. I have some earplugs, but I haven’t tested them out yet. The Suzuki’s quiet sound definitely spoiled me.

Great choice of machine, don't let the dealer screwing you sour the ownership experience because the repairs you need to make are really easy to access components. There is a used 2021 exhaust on ebay for $176 but it has minor cosmetic damage...I'm certain you can find one in perfect condition because so many people add full exhaust systems and toss their OE one in the corner of their garage. Cycle Cruza channel has same bike (think 2021 or 2022) and he may have his OE exhaust available if you contact him...just put it out there on his channel and you may find one. The dealer should compensate you for your troubles or at least offer to install your replacement parts free of charge. Good luck!

The corner-cutting on a nice bike like that (and it is pretty as well as a great bike) is really foolish, but it remains a great bike! And it is always good to hear from you! We have a couple more months of winter be for we can ride up here, but that will go quickly.

Nice looking bike Gina and low miles. Sorry about the loud exhaust and fender abuse. Check out the Yamaha forums and Flea Bay as somebody might have a complete factory exhaust available cheap because the also spent big bucks on a aftermarket one. Factory plastic can be quite expensive too if a new fender is needed. I'm sure that the dealer knew about the discrepancy's, and if they do that, what will they do for service, ect. Hope your back to 100% too. It was a nice surprise to watch you revile. Hope you weekend was a good one Gina. You could watch a little bit of usernamekate winter ride part one and two from England to Germany.

Hi Gina, I'm glad to see you back and doing well. I feel your pain for not noticing the mods done improperly. You're correct in saying changing the entire exhaust system is $$ proposition but you could just remove the crappy muffler and replace it with an OEM can. it would still run a few hundred dollars but is a very easy task to diy. A very nice bike overall and it is beautiful in blue.
@GingerDashMoto2 жыл бұрын
It’s the entire exhaust system, including the muffler, catalytic converter, O2 sensor and pipes up to the manifold - that’s why it’s not a simple switch. I’ll figure something out eventually.
@tedsalmon25332 жыл бұрын
Oh man! That is a big costly job. The stock muffler might be enough to tone it down for you but... Jeez!
@GingerDashMoto2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. It’s the entire system, which is why restoring it to factory with new parts is out of the question. Looking for used though and hoping to make that work. :)

Nice one Gina my fave colour as my bike is also blue and a Yamaha cool ride ,I am surprise you didn't test it for me that would be a must no test no buy .Hey maybe you can find a used silencer since many people change them and sell their bikes and still have the stock one so you could bet lucky you never know keep an eye on Ebay .Just check but it's here in the UK but a complete system is currently on sale her for £151.99 with best offer this is a breakers I have used and they do take offers so it is possible .Take care out there .😉👍

I visited multiple dealerships in the fall and not one of them allowed test rides. It’s becoming more and more common that you just buy it without any sort of experience on whatever bike model that happens to be. I am looking for a used exhaust system and will likely go in that direction. I had priced out a new replacement and installation costs and decided that absolutely was not happening.

Hi Gina, From one gal rider to another I feel your disapointment! You know what you want and when you realized it isn't what you got, uh boy it makes your experience deflated! Hoping you have or will speak to the dealarship manager about it, maybe get them to change the exhaust for a small fraction of the price. You don't know until you ask is my motto. Beautiful looking bike, and hopefully a beautiful sounding bike (to your ears) soon. In the meantime try enjoy the feel of it, the power, colour and all the little extras and the fact you can be out riding now! It is still to cold up here in Toronto Canada :( to ride. Fingers crossed I can get the baby out of storage in the next 3 weeks. Missed you and glad your back. Take care, keep safe and stay healthy. Here's to a Happy New Year and New Adventures for you too. Hi Gina, i've got a Yamaha XSR900 and its the same engine platform as the MT/FZ 07 and 09. The engine is a blast, and even though it is a DOHC and the 900 is a in-line triple, i can still hear the similar exhaust note, and its as you say: it has immediate power delivery. Its a well established bike that I really like. My critiques of it in the case of the XSR900: is that the seat height is a little high for me and I'm 6'1! (but my legs are shorter than most people.) I almost sink into it based on the way it is angled. Additionally ECU/gear tuning on the first gear can make it a little snappy/jerky (I have to play with the clutch and throttle a lot at slow speeds). Otherwise, the motorcycle is a blast to ride, and as long as i'm not starting and stopping often its easy to sit further back and be comfortable!
@GingerDashMoto2 жыл бұрын
I was surprised to find it didn’t feel as high as I was expecting- from a seat height perspective. I’m 5’6”, but I’m also used to not flat footing the bike as I couldn’t do that on my old Suzuki. The jerky throttle does take some getting used to. While I was aware of that being an MY “thing”, it does take some getting used to. A rewiring (of sorts) to the muscle memory regarding throttle control. For me anyway. Sounds like you have a great bike that makes for enjoyable riding. :)
