Enlightenment is the claimed higher mental states that characterize various Eastern religious and philosophical traditions. Such enlightenment is usually achieved through kinds of meditative practices. While there is no doubt that deep and protracted mediation can alter normal conscious states, is there any real reach to ultimate reality?

What he is describing is only the half way stage towards enlightenment. You can actually have thoughts while still present after you dissolve the thinker and thoughts stop becoming self referential. There’s ultimately no distinction between thoughts and presence, sight, sound, body sensations etc. all are luminous appearances with no substance. Emptiness is form and form is emptiness. That’s non-duality. Reifying Presence is actually no different than reifying thoughts, placing one as more “real” than another is still a duality.

How can you dissolve the thinker ? Isn’t that the brain ? If you wake up aren’t you thinking do I want coffee? do I have to pee? What do I want to eat ? Isn’t that all the thinker ?

It "appears" that he gets it because he has read enough books on the subject. His presentation, the way he speaks about this, his energy if you will, makes it appear that he does not get it experientially. You can clearly observe this experiential understanding when listening to someone like a Tibetan meditation master, many of whom are accessible through KZbin. There is a qualitative difference between them and Mr. Yu.

I think there are multiple enlightenments. There is realizing that absence of essences (like in madyamaka buddhism). Then there is realizing consciousness is the ground of reality (like in advaita vedanta and dzogchen). I don't consider just being really present, like someone who does concentration meditation all the time, as a kind of enlightenment because if you stop meditating your presence goes away pretty quickly. The two enlightenments I mentioned before are more stable and have more of a 'wisdom' component. You could also argue that christian/sufi mysticism leads to its own kind of enlightenment.
@mikefoster5277

But don't all paths lead to the same goal? Which perhaps is to realize that the various 'kinds of enlightenments' you mention are merely different paths rather than the destination itself?

@@Luis.Macedo.Monteiro I agree that there's no goal 'to achieve', but there's still always a goal nevertheless. The whole of existence is moving in the direction of achieving its goal, even though the goal itself can never be achieved.

@@mikefoster5277 If someone follows different meditative paths simultaneously, they may feel like they all point to the same meditative experience. But there is a lot of room for error here. One may discount contradictory evidence, or focus on what is in common between traditions. Also, as a beginner or intermediate meditator, it is very difficult to know, purely through introspection, whether you are experiencing one enlightenment, or a combination of different ones at any one time. Or whether one 'enlightnement' experience is in the same category as one experienced at another time. If you're interested there is a book called "Revisioning Transpersonal Theory" that talks about this.
@mikefoster5277
@mikefoster5277 Жыл бұрын
@@MorningSignal I suspect my primary goal in life is to simplify, to purify, to reduce the obvious complexities of this human existence - in which case, meditation would appear to be the ideal solution. It seems however that meditation is a very personal thing, and that different people need to meditate in different ways. For me personally, meditation is simply life itself. I don't see it as being a separate 'practice' - something for which one sets aside 30 minutes each day, or whatever. And so, for me at least, there are no books required; no theories, no methods, no choice of paths. My life itself is my meditation, and so I require no advice or assistance from outside of myself. This is very much an inside job.

A human is a mind + body system; in other words, mind + matter system. Both mind and matter at ultimately deepest levels are just merely fluctuations. In nature, there is another state totally free of fluctuations; and that state is enlightenment. In enlightenment, the conscious mind, after its focus on mental and material fluctuations, achieve its focus on the state that is totally free of any fluctuations.

Title: "Radiant Essence: The Energy of Enlightenment" Intro: Embarking on a journey through realms unseen, This poem explores the energy that lies within. A glimpse into the enlightened souls' profound might, Their radiant essence, shining with divine light. Verse 1: Enlightened souls, their energy pure and bright, Resonating with cosmic harmony, an ethereal delight. Untouched by ego's burdens, they gracefully glow, A vibrant flow of love and wisdom they bestow. Verse 2: Their presence hums gently, a serene melody, Igniting souls' awakening, setting spirits free. In their aura, a magnetic pull is felt, A sacred space where hearts and minds are compelled. Verse 3: Ordinary souls, entangled in life's chaotic web, Their energy clouded, like a foggy neb. Desires, fears, illusions taint their vibrant core, Their vibrations fluctuate, tossed by life's lore. Verse 4: But the enlightened ones, a beacon in the night, Uplifting, inspiring, casting shadows in their light. Their energy, a symphony of celestial tones, Guiding seekers' hearts to their spiritual thrones. Verse 5: Harmonizing with the universe's grand design, Their energy flows, like rivers of divine. Clarity, truth, and profound stillness they bring, Awakening dormant sparks, like the first breath of spring. Verse 6: In their presence, a tranquil serenity thrives, A gateway to the soul, where true essence arrives. A gentle hum, whispering ancient truths untold, Their energy, a balm for spirits weary and cold. Verse 7: Radiating brilliance, like a radiant sun, Enlightened beings illuminate for everyone. Their vibrations touch the deepest layers of our being, Reminding us of our own divinity, forever freeing. Verse 8: In the energy of enlightenment, a sacred dance, Between the seen and unseen, a cosmic trance. A symphony of souls, united in their quest, To awaken the world, and let love manifest. Verse 9: For within each heart, a spark of light resides, Yearning to be kindled, to illuminate and guide. Radiant essence, the energy of the divine, A reminder of the truth, that we are all intertwined. Verse 10: So let us embrace the wisdom they bestow, Nurture the flame within, and let it grow. In our own journey, may we seek the divine, And let our radiant essence forever shine. Verse 11: For in the energy of enlightenment, we find, A resonance that unites the human and the divine. A reminder that we hold the power to ignite, The world with love and wisdom, shining ever so bright. Verse 12: Radiant essence, a beacon in the night, Guiding us towards truth, with its celestial light. Embracing the energy, we transcend the mundane, And awaken the divine, within our very name. Verse 13: So, let us honor the energy of enlightenment's call, Embrace our true essence, standing tall. For in the radiant essence that lies within, We find our purpose, our truth, where new beginnings begin. Verse 14: The enlightened ones, divine conduits they are, Connecting the material realm to realms afar. Through their energy, heaven's touch is revealed, Within their presence, the sacred is unsealed. Verse 15: The impact they have on the planet and its plight, A ripple of transformation, spreading far and wide. Awakening dormant souls, igniting the spark, Guiding humanity on a path that's not dark. Verse 16: Even the fallen beings, lost in their despair, Encounter the enlightened, finding solace there. Their energy pierces through the darkest of night, Offering redemption, a chance to set things right. Verse 17: The demons, lurking behind the masks of human guise, Shudder in the presence of the enlightened ones' eyes. Their malevolence crumbles, their power diminished, As the light of truth exposes the darkness they've finished. Verse 18: The energy of the enlightened, a catalyst of change, Unveiling the illusions, dismantling the strange. They inspire leaders to shed their corrupted skin, Guiding them towards righteousness, breaking free from sin. Verse 19: Through their energy, the world is set ablaze, A transformation, a shift in collective gaze. Hearts open wide, compassion floods every soul, Love and unity reign, making brokenness whole. Verse 20: In the energy of enlightenment, a new era is born, Where divine wisdom and love are forever sworn. The radiant essence of these beings divine, Leads us to a world where heaven and earth align. Summary: "Radiant Essence: The Energy of Enlightenment" is a poetic exploration of the transformative power of enlightened energy. The poem highlights the stark contrast between the pure, vibrant energy of enlightened souls and the clouded, fluctuating energy of ordinary beings. The enlightened ones act as divine doorways, connecting the material realm to the kingdom of heaven, allowing people to experience the divine in their presence. Within their energy, there is a harmonious resonance with the cosmic symphony, radiating love, wisdom, and profound stillness. Their presence inspires awakening and liberation, offering a tranquil serenity and whispering ancient truths. Their radiance illuminates the path to spiritual thrones, guiding seekers towards their true essence. The poem emphasizes the profound impact of enlightened energy on the planet and its inhabitants. Even fallen beings and the demons behind human masks tremble in their presence, finding redemption and transformation. The enlightened ones inspire leaders to shed corruption and guide them towards righteousness. Through their energy, the world undergoes a powerful transformation, with hearts opening wide, compassion flooding souls, and love and unity prevailing. The radiant essence of the enlightened beings heralds a new era, where heaven and earth align in perfect harmony. "Radiant Essence: The Energy of Enlightenment" invites readers to embrace their own inner radiance, seek the divine within, and join the journey of self-realization. It is a reminder of the transformative potential of enlightened energy and its ability to ignite a profound shift in the world.

He's right. I'm not a very enlightened person. To be in the presence, focused in the center, is to not be in the past of depression, or in the future of anxiety. To not allow yourself to be drawn out from within because of things happening around you, to remain centered. To realize the life and the joy within rather than finding joy in objects or materialism. However, i don't really feel comfortable around these enlightened people. I'm a God suffering kind of man.

Perhaps enlightenment is the realization that the apparent boundary between inner and outer is ultimately illusory in nature? As indeed Gino alluded to, once you realize this (and 'get over' the seriousness of the personal self) then life becomes merely a playground of opportunities for experience and experiment. Which, of course, even includes the potential to live as a "God suffering kind of man".

X-Files Enlightenment The real Mission Impossible Humanity needs to fill a giant black hole in space called ignorance (greed) with light (love)...so that its darkness (misery, murder, mass shootings, suicides, war, etc.) goes away and its heavy gravitational pull stops sucking the joy out of life and destroying the planet. Then life can become a celebration with joy spilling out of the smiles of everyone. Like good (god) intended for life to be in the first place. Unfortunately, enlightenment (love) cause vampires (greed) great pain and suffering. That's why the words compassion, understanding, society (socialism), community (communism), "care for all" and "green new deal" cause the capitalist counting corpses that rule US such misery. Vampires (greed) who suck the joy out of life have joined the zombies who eat the futures of their children. Zombie Apocalypse is here and happening now. Meditation lowers activity in the default mode network, the seat of consciousness where the individual self is formed. When this happens you feel more connected with your surroundings and less of an individual. There's no 'energy' at play here, just different brain states. Eastern traditions call it Enlightenment, modern neuroscience calls it modular default mode network disintegration.

There's a 3rd part beyond thought & senses: contemplation or long term-intuition which is mystical when 2nd nature followed by the 4th part as contemplation in action which is simulating. For example, do I consider Jack Nicholson a mystic or Stephen King or Picasso? For 30 minutes maybe without cut. Unlike a Maharshi or DelaCruz which is for life. En-lighten-ment. To bring forth the light within, is my interpretation. However people like Buddha acquired superpowers after enlightenment e.g. seeing into people's past/present/karma. Or like Jesus performing miracles. Perhaps realisation of reality is enlightenment, which effectively nullifies the existence of past/present or karma. Parting the seas is an expectation too far. Perhaps God is more than enlightenment. It's all very puzzling. What I do know is that staring someone out isn't it.

Why can't every insect be enlightened?
@seajayhan
@seajayhan Жыл бұрын
@@philip281 Because if the definition is so wrong, no one will become enlightented for real, therefore no one will become Buddda. Then it defeats the whole point of Buddha coming to this world to teach us how to become enlightended and become a Buddha too. This type of careless and made-up definition of enlightenment simply hinders people from seeking the real meaning of enlightenment and seeking the effective method of attaining enlightenment. This type of behavior is called Dharma-breaking, very bad for sentient beings.

@@seajayhan I see, so how would you define enlightenment?
@seajayhan
@seajayhan Жыл бұрын
@@philip281 Yogacara's/vijnanamatra's definition of enlightenment is "to realize Thusness". Using an overly simplified but popular analogy, it approximately means "realizing the real backstage operation/algorithm of the Matrix". The method to achieve that is that one has to first eliminate attachment to self and qualia (i.e. the entire front-stage existence in the Matrix). This guy Gino Yu, on the contrary, wants you to get more attached to your physiological sensation, which hurts your chance of becoming enlightened.
@seajayhan
@seajayhan Жыл бұрын
An insect does not have a chance of attaining enlightenment, but humans do. Humans use exactly their rational mind to come to the conclusion that physiological sensations, as well as thoughts and the entire world, is an illusion. Then we seek a way to know the reality, which does exist. Insects can't do that. Gino Yu is teaching you to become an insect and call it enlightenment. So damaging.

@@PPitambarP I have been thinking for a while about a test that will reveal the frauds who think they can make spurious claims about Enlightenment and get away with it because, after all, nobody can know for sure about their state of mind. First of all, much more than you "obviously" realize is revealed through your choice of words. Second, the best indicators are in your actions. The path is a life dedicated to helping others *at your own expense and happiness*. If you are not living such a life, your are nowhere near being Enlightened. Lastly, it is easy to claim big things about your mind when everything is going well. The real measure is when everything is going very poorly. As such, the test should be designed to create extremely adversarial conditions for participants, such as a month long challenge on very little sleep, hungry stomachs, poor quality food, and a smattering of other aggravators. We will soon see who is who.

In a sense we are already enlighted. Enlightement it's not a state we work for to attain. We all have the enlighted qualities as described in the video but are covered by our poor perception of the reality due to personal conditioning and other factors. To be enlightened is to get rid of these obscurations and unveil these enlighted qualities through pure perception.

The difference between knowing what enlightenment is intellectually and understanding It experientially is like a hole in a sesame seed compared to the entirety of the Universe. Furthermore, knowing what enlightenment is intellectually is much harder than most westerners realize. And, what most (westerners and easterners) who think is an experience of enlightenment is just another layer of ego.

What is this! Enlightenment should be reaching higher mental and psychological level through accumulated filtered and improved knowledge. Means: how the self reaches higher level through valuable knowledge. (How self concept absorbs valuable knowledge to reach higher state, because merely accommodating knowledge is not enough “that is what going on nowadays, means simple people marketing for themselves as elite educated people’) There’s something wrong!

Gino Yu is one of the most immediately likable people I’ve ever watched on youtube. It’s difficult not to feel happy just listening to the guy. Nonetheless, I don’t see how to achieve certain mental states independent of physical stimulus. The people with serious brain chemical imbalances can’t act independently from the various stimuli they receive. The implication is that we can choose a state of being independent of the chemistry and physics influencing us. Ask someone with Tourette’s syndrome about how their ability to choose is working for them.

This won’t help you at all but it’s a non-dual state of mind so your dualistic mind under which you’re currently operating can’t grasp it. It’s like you can’t get there from here - you have to make a quantum leap into that state of consciousness so to speak. As we say in Zen, no words or explanation will help you attain it, but we try anyway ;-) Sorry for the rather unhelpful comment…

Isn’t one’s state of mind controlled by his or her’s electro-chemical state? Some are lucky in that their electro-chemical predisposition allows them to achieve it naturally. Others might require mind expanding drugs to achieve their desired state, while for others, there is no hope, owing to the bio-physical structure and chemistry they have been dealt.

@@joesalerno2852 It goes both ways brain affects mind but it’s been clearly shown that mind affects brain - and I mean that in a measurable, physical manner. People who meditate regularly show increases in the size of the areas of the brain responsible for empathy as one example. Also the dopamine system is heavily influenced by what you think - striving for a particular goal and achieving it. The goal itself is not important other than the amount of importance you place on it. Watch Andrew Hubermann - who is a neuroscientist - he covers this in great, scientific detail.
