The squeezers will do the front rivet if you are installing a side rail mount too. But the jaws won't close far enough to do the middle rivet because of the lower rails. In case anybody was wondering that. I bought a pair of these from toth along with the long rivet tool when you made a video with them.

10 minutes with the grinder and I am now able to get to the lower rivets on my underfolder build. Thanks.

It's not just cutting better due to the steel, it's cutting better due to the more ridged setup. I'm surprised the endmill did't chip to hell on the first pass. Carbide's brittle. My .02 as a machinist.....Nothing to add about the gunsmithing, here to learn like everyone else!

And, THAT'S why Toth Tool offers the modified support plates! It has suddenly become all so clear.

Yeah for $50 , when if you have a grinder you can do for the freeeeee

the rivet holes on the AK builder flat are specifically undersized for accuracy. when you bend a flat, you are stressing the metal in ways that can stretch holes fairly easily and make them egg shaped. this is really evident with the 2 lower pivot pins for the hammer and trigger group. there's so many jigs out there, that not all AK's are created equal, so those tiny variables can really add up.

I'm glad you like them, and your welcome! I hope everyone learns a trick or two and passes the info along.

i experimented with a C clamp to place bottom rivet..it already has a cup on the winding tightener..place it over the rivet and tighten with a wrench..worked pretty good..

Nice job, that is a really cool and unique hobby you guys can have there.. Wish I could do that! lol :-) I think the modification should be fine as there is only compressive force being put on the back of the jaw at that point.

I cover how I heat treat in the AMD 65 flat bending video. I keep the part as hot as I can get it with a Mapp torch for one minute. I also start the clock only after it starts to turn red. Then I quench in water and when finished, put it in the oven at 450-500 for an hour. Then I turn the oven off and let it cool. 4130 is a water quench alloy.

I would love to see a PSL build if you ever get around to it. How do you heat treat your receivers? Thats where I am having an issue.

Thank you sir, I'v still yet to purchase that Bulgarian AK kit, which I figured out is a milled receiver AK. Do you have any tips or suggestions for it?

Hello friend ! Tell me, where can I get a rivet press like the one in your video?

So is the Toth tool good for flat rivets as well? I want to install an NSP-3 side rail on my AKMS and a friend's AKM and since noone deals with AKs in my country I have to get the tool from the US to install them myself.
@scarblue622511 жыл бұрын
ginsboy2003, in your kitchen build series you did not cover installation of the gas block or the front sight with the toth tools, is this possible?
@WDallynN11 жыл бұрын
white lithium grease and a rubber mallet will do.

Can the long rivet tool be used for the short rivets on an underfolder trunnion?
@ginsboy20038 жыл бұрын
No, because it can't get to the backside. The new rivet squeezer jaws he sells are able to do it though.
@benelliott98318 жыл бұрын
+ginsboy2003 Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I just ordered my long rivet jig so I haven't been able to look at it yet. Your videos are very informative and helpful for the beginner.

Hello sir, I have a question because I need your sage advice. I want to build a Bulgarian AK-74, and I want to add on a scope rail, will the toth tool support rivet tool (The long middle rivet in the receiver) work with the scope rail being added on? I would REALLY appreciate your opinion or even just a short video. Thanks!
@ginsboy200310 жыл бұрын
I haven't used it for that job, but with the rails I have on hand to look at, it will work.

ginsboy2003 can this mod work for riveting in side folder trunnions? Anyone get it to work for that style trunnion?
@callofgeorge8 жыл бұрын
but can you use this tool for ak100 style side folders??
@ginsboy20038 жыл бұрын
+callofgeorge I'm not positive, I do know you can get the forward rivet, but not having used in on the lower rear rivet, I'm not sure.
@callofgeorge8 жыл бұрын
+ginsboy2003 just to give you an update, the bottom rear ones are kind of a pain, but it can definitely rivet the side folder. i wish the jaws had an option for reversed though. (flat for the outer and domed inside). the russian folders had flat rivet heads on the outside and the inside of the rivet was domed.. no biggie though, i can fab some jaws up later, just domed the outside and i'll flatten the outside with a hammer and bucking bar.
@PKendall3178 жыл бұрын
+callofgeorge I have a Bulgy 74 kit and a side folder I wanna put on it. Would you need to do any further mods to the rivet jaws to get it to work?
@callofgeorge8 жыл бұрын
+PKendall317 i would think not, it's pretty much the same as my saiga with russian folder. they are a pain to do, and you probably want a 2nd person.. but should be able to without issue. only downer is the round head is always on the outside. i may inquire about getting a custom set made with the jaws reversed. i just flattened the ones i needed to with a hammer and bucking bar off ebay.
@PKendall3178 жыл бұрын
Maybe we should inquire about a set designed for underfolder or sidefolder trunnions

I purchased the rivet squeeze jaws in September and they look like the will work without modification, however it appears the Harbor Freight steel part still needs to be cut in order to fit.

You know of anyway to mod the rivet jaws for us poor folk who don't have a cool end mill or angle grinder?
@ginsboy20038 жыл бұрын
All current production jaws will get to the underfolder trunnion rivets. Toth tool will also swap them out. A 4 1/2 inch angle grinder can be bought from harbor freight for $15.
@PKendall3178 жыл бұрын
Right on. What about side folders? I think I'm going ot have to mod my jaws for that particular trunnion.

I just used them on a AKS sidefolder yesterday. I was able to get to the bottom rivet.
