Follow Samantha on IG @sammiimartin Seleena @vnmesesisi
Thomas @thom.as.allan Shayla @shaylaallan Kyle @kyleledotnet
Shayla and her twin brother, Thomas, were adopted at 6 months old by a family from Calgary who relocated to Trinidad for work. Meanwhile, two older sisters were adopted previously and still live in the Toronto area. Due to unfortunate circumstances, difficult situations, and past struggles with the law, Shayla’s birth parents lost custody shortly after they were born. Shayla always knew her birth parents’ full names and used Facebook to find her birth mother and followed her throughout the years. Just a few months ago, Shayla’s adoptive mom noticed a girl on her birth mother’s page that resembled Shayla a lot. Eventually, when Shayla was able to reach her older sister Seleena, she was also able to reach her oldest sister, Samantha. And with these connections, finally Shayla found her father, a former Vietnamese boat refugee who immigrated to Canada by himself.

I love how evolved his thinking is. He says..."these aren't my children anymore" knowing that he can not go in and play a father role like they are kids but he knows he can be a support and friend to them. The childhood bond with your child is made from birth to about 5 yrs old. I love this reunion. Their personality traits will blend and come out more. This family union is unique and beautiful. What a wonderful new life they will have together.

Can we take a minute to appreciate the adoptive parents like they let this happen they told their children the truth and they let them look for their family and the 2 mom's stayed out of the way while they were all talking. That must be so hard for them to accept and allow them to do this. Hands down to them

I think anyone who adopts a child of a different culture has a duty to teach them at the very least, the language, dialect of the area they were born n-as generally children separated from birth mothers (at least in my case) always have a longing to be reunited. Actually if the children haven't had the time after birth to bond with their mother there is a receptor that remains open/empty in the brain. Glad they have met with their birth parents.

It takes time for guys to release emotions. We tend to hush them. You can see how he doesn't socialize much at first, and from his body language (arms held close to his body). A lot of female energy and their outpouring of emotions have an effect as well. Emotional release makes you more vulnerable. I think the challenge is having to let their guard down and accept being vulnerable.

For me the most touching moment is when the father was on his knee and bowed down to the adopted parents. That is the highest form of appreciation in some Asia countries. And for some of you who keep saying "Why did they give their children away?", "why didn't the birth parent have responsibility for their children?" "It's a betrayal to their adopted parent". It's easy for you to type all of these but have you ever walk into their shoes?

My mother gave up two up two of our siblings, each time it drove her into a deep depression and caused her to relapse. Even worse was it was supposed to be an open adoption but the people moved and told my mom they didn't want her around anymore. Ngl, I teared up a little when the children reunited with their father. And their mother is such a sweet soul who just had life hard at an early age. Excellent job done by the adoptive parents as the warmth and love emanating from these kids is palpable. Three years on I hope all you guys are doing just fine. Love from London UK. ❤️🙏🏾

I know......so sad. The suffering he must have gone through for the past 18 years. He also tried to commit suicide in prison. He even bow three times to the adopting parents. In Asians cultural you don't do that to a living person! I have Soo much respect for him!

@@Wronginteraction78 No. I was an infant when my dad migrated to USA. I have two older sisters; one is 6 and the is 3 years my senior. So my oldest sister had the most contact-time with my dad just like Samantha (probably) did with her dad.

The kids are adorable beautiful human being. Thank you to the adoptive parents. It’s so emotional seeing his reactions seeing his kids for the first time. It’s obvious that he loves them and regretted the choice he made resulting in losing his kids He said he made a mistake and regretted for the rest of his life. Wiping my tears away with a smile.... Happy days everyone!

Sameera Latif Did you watch the whole video? They mention the youngest daughter several times, even at the end the father is crying while only talking about her. And they say "there's one more left and then we'll be all together". She's 15 and because she's underage he can't contact her yet, so he says that he has to wait three more years.

This is a beautiful story of acceptance of self and others, wrapped with so much love and understanding. What touched me most, was when their Father left to go home, and the watched him leave, and their brother wrapped his arms, as though in proud protection, of his sister's, then he too, shed his own tears of joy and sadness combined. This is a blessed family. They have so much ❤️...
