What a great story! I raise monarchs in Northern Indiana and have also found several that have been grazed by cars, stunned by the cold, etc. Often if their injuries are fairly minor, they just need time to recover in a safe, warm spot, and some food. You did exactly the right thing for that handsome young gentleman! I'm so glad he was able to fly off again and resume life as a wild monarch! I'm sure you'll never forget each other. 🦋 ❤

How long do monarchs live for? My daughter and I planted a TON of wildflowers on a 1 acre patch of land on our property that are supposed to be for Monarch Butterflies and honeybees. We had so many butterflies this year, it was amazing.

@carlykpdx 2-6 weeks is a very large discrepancy. Whats the reason for this? Either way, this one stayed with her for 3 days. She was a huge part of his life.

@@LeeLee86 the most amazing thing about monarchs is that they migrate from Mexico (eastern) and California (western) and they go through several generations making their way all the way up to Canada. The final generation then flies from Canada all the way back to Mexico/California in one go, where they overwinter, and then breed again when it gets warm enough- starting that cycle over again. Amazing, beautiful creatures.

Thank you for helping him. My mother loved monarch butterfly. A couple of weeks after she passed, a monarch landed on the outside of my house, it stayed there long enough for me to go get my camera and take it picture. Amazing how God uses all creatures to help us in certain times of our lives. 💜🦋💜🦋💜🦋

Thank you for this beautiful story. My wife & I were walking our dog near our house and came across a tree that had thousands of Monarchs on it. We were stunned, in awe. I'm no entomologist but I understand Nebraska is on the Monarch's flyway when they migrate from Mexico to Canada. It was a priceless someone might experience once in a lifetime.

@@andreawalker7138 Yes it was Andrea! I hope it wasn't just a once in a lifetime experience. Delores & I stopped dead in our tracks at the sight of that tree. You could not see any green at all, it was all orange & black Monarch butterflies. "Wow" is an understatement. I was walking Lenny two days ago near our house on a trail and saw ~ 10 Monarch's flying around so they may not be back here in great numbers, yet it's heartwarming to know they are still around. I no longer use pesticides on our property, we'll put up with ants in the kitchen and bugs in our yard & garden.

One of my favorite videos of all time. You healed his wing and sent him on his way, after expertly feeding him! I wasn’t expecting him to survive, but was really happy that he did. (Monarch butterflies are on the federal Endangered list now). “Whoso saves one life saves the world entire”.

Sorry to say my Prince 🦋 suddenly passed away last night at 9 1/2 days old. Buried him under a rose. 🌹 Already miss him. 💔 I still have a female monarch Queenie who hatched the same day and is also deformed. She's doing ok for now. Update: Queenie lived 16 happy days.

This is so touching and sweet. Butterflies are so magical, with so different colors and I remember seeing so many of monarch butterflies as a little girl flying all over the place. She is right you rarely see monarch butterflies. And when you do their colors are so bright and beautiful!

Growing up as a kid, it was always a blessing to see a Monarch Butterfly and how beautiful they are up close and in person. They are actually very curious creatures and have no problem coming up to humans for a closer look and even land on you for a few minutes before flying off to their destination!... 🦋

I had two Monarchs hatch out in my barn this year. They could not have come in from the outside. I was able to release them over my field of milk weed and other flowers. It was so beautiful to see them fly off.

Great Job and wonderful compassion to help the male Monarch Butterfly. Yes males have 2 dark spots which are their glands, females don't have those on wings! Thank you for your kindness. I have raised several of them.

Reminds me of when I rescued a large Golden Ringed dragonfly from a spiders web. Gently easing it out and he just sat on the back of my hand while I painstakingly removed all the web from its wings and legs. Once all done,it was quite happy just to continue to sit on my hand for at least 45 minutes then flew off.

This was actually really important because unlike Monarchs born in Spring/Summer that live 2-6weeks, Monarch's born in the late Summer/Fall will migrate and live for 7 months. She potentially helped keep next year's Monarchs alive so it can breed and make more next year!

It's really beautiful that this girl would do this for this beautiful living thing. I'm glad there are still people like this in our world of mostly selfish masses.. if only half of us would be so kind, and to take care of our world instead of just using abuse it along with everything that lives on it we would be so much better. I know I would have done the same thing, and to help these creatures out people should be planting tons of natural/native milkweed in their yards, to give them a fighting chance
