Annoyance is sometimes closer to attraction than indifference? Alain behaves selfishly, immaturely and is often a jerk, but I've seen women complain about guys like him to friends, being annoyed, publicly distancing themselves, and yet still somehow ending up entangled with such people more readily than with responsible, respectful and available "nice guys". I could totally be reading too much into it or projecting. Maybe you would totally not be attracted by a "bad boy" like Alain, so I don't mean it personally, it's more of an excuse for a general observation.
