Katie Cooke has a lifestyle clash few others can rival. The 19-year-old from Dublin is a competitive runner - but her chronic epilepsy means she has around 16 seizures a day, often during races. When other competitors see her fall to the ground, they naturally believe she needs to go to hospital - even though she normally recovers immediately and in her case, there's no need for medical intervention. Even though she's grateful for the public response, all Katie wants to do is carry on running. @ that does not work for everyone. it's extraordinarily strict, too, you can't cheat _once_ , and you have to be seizure free for at least a year to be considered 'cured'. you're still at risk, always. it depends on the root cause of the epilepsy.

@@TeenDream888 Interestingly enough, I've done my research on epilepsy, and in essence it's the brain detoxing from heavy metals and other toxins that got stored in the brain. Since toxins get stored in lipids, and the brain is such a fatty organ, this causes seizures in the brain's attempt to "detox" itself. The reason a long-term ketogenic diet cures seizures, is because you eat a lot of fat, which replaces the toxic fat in your brain with new and healthy fat. Also you run your brain on ketones which is the preferred fuel source for the brain. Ideally saturated fats as in butter and animal fats, fatty fish, brains, liver and egg yolks are the best foods. The saturated fat will also increase levels of cholesterol necessary in repairing damaged brain tissue.
