Lorraine lashed out because she was raised religious and she thinks that this is happening because she starred in their movie. She blamed Maxine because she was always teasing her, calling her a “prude” and convinced her that it was okay for her to be in that type of movie. So when the murders happen she thinks of it as a punishment for her sin.

Nevertheless it was her decision to turn RJ’s words against him by calling him a prude IN FRONT OF THE PORNO CREW and SHOOT THE DAMN PORNO **IN FRONT OF HIM!!** that’s a whole new level of cuckoldery! But also RJ is kinda piece of shit for using porn as a start off for his cinematic career… Anywho I’d go down this rabbit hole and point fingers, but to sum it all up, every character in X deserved to die. I loved the barn kill not just for how good the scare was but how Wayne is nearly naked doing it, it’s definitely a reversal on how women in horror movies are always seen half naked investigating strange things in the dark

@@NotBoinge hi! Off the top of my head, when Wayne stepped on the nail/sharp object he heard some strange noises and assuming it was ‘Churchmouse’ got closer to the doors investigate. He noticed three lined up holes in the barn side/door and he peered through them for some unintelligible reason. Then Pearl stabs a pitchfork through his eyes. The scene with the lightbulb and Trina talks about how upsetting it was for them is because it jerks back to the scene with Wayne and Pearl pulls the pitchfork back and his eyeballs come out of his head.

my take on the “deeper meaning” of the movie was actually the scrutinization of liberated youth, opposed to the treatment of older people, so your take is a super interesting second perception. i love seeing how different people see the same things differently. the way they continuously cut back to the tv preacher going on about how “sexual liberation is poisoning the world” is what brought it full circle for me. that conservative & repressive noise was constantly blasting throughout that house. i think the real villain is the ideology that young people are dirty and evil for expressing themselves without typical conservative restriction. when the truth is that anyone at any age has the right to live that way and if that was the societal standard, the homeowners would have never been driven to do what they did. tbh i just wanted to write some thoughts ab this movie bc i love it so much. watched fresh and predicted it would be my top movie for 2022 and then i saw x and that changed lol love you & your content so much
@1duke9love982 жыл бұрын
Very interesting interpretation! This really illuminated the role of the tv preacher. I think also the fact that maxine’s dad is the preacher shows how she is breaking away from the conservative ideologies that were likely very much ingrained in her from a young age. As someone who is still trying to break through the sexual shame that I learned growing up, i can see pearl as the voice of both shame and desire that comes back to haunt you, which can be a constant struggle and fight, and which Maxine literally fights and kills.

As a horror movie lover, I absolutely hate the eye through the peephole kill, not just in this movie but all horror movies. It's the most anti-climatic type of kill and I loathe when horror movies put it in the movie. You just KNOW whoever is looking through that hole is going to get stabbed through the eye and it always happens, no amount of suspense will change you already knowing the outcome for that certain death. I did enjoy when it showed her taking it out of his eyes because it scared the hell out of me too.

I really feel like the fact that people responded to the senior citizens in this film like they did (ESPECIALLY during the sex scenes), with laughter, just further proves the points the movie is making about society’s built-in prejudice against old people when it comes to the concept of sexuality, whereas with youth it’s inviting and erotic. That’s why when I saw it for the third time at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival this year, I didn’t mind it when people laughed. Cause it totally emphasized some of the major thematic points Ti West was trying to make

There is a lot of foreshadowing and cool details hidden in the film as well. One of the first I noticed is when Brittany Snow walks out of the building around 2:16, you see and alligator 🐊. Lol. And yeah, the film is definitely a commentary on how society views old people vs young people when it comes to a lot of things, but mainly sex. The entire audience was reacting disgusted and laughing during the sex scene with Pearl and Howard, proving the films point more considering we “enjoyed” the other sex scenes involving the younger people. Also Jenna’s face when she is watching Maxine do the dirty will never not crack me up lol.

I was so scared when I first watched this movie that one of the characters was going to be r*ped. As some one who has grown up with religious trauma, I am so glad that there were open discussions about why there is nothing wrong with sex work and that none of the sex workers were violently taken advantage of ("violently" because most of them were at least semi-manipulated). No matter the intentions of the writers, I know that if characters were sexually assaulted, some people would have said they deserved it for sexualizing themselves. Also, paralleling sexual scenes with horror scenes made the whole thing complex and generally abject. I think there was a really good balance in this movie.

In a way Lorraine was right because if Maxine hadn’t given her the courage to be in the “movie” RJ wouldn’t have had his breakdown and maybe everything could have been avoided

This movie looked so interesting but I can't watch movies like this cuz it freaks me out too much. So this video came at a great time.

Jenna Ortega’s death in this reminded me of in the newest Scream when Amber kills the friend with pink hair. Like it’s just so sudden it’s hilarious

I'm going to need Jenna to be in every horror movie ever from now on!
