Umm, the NC500 route has seen massive pressures asserted on it due to the influx of visitors. Whilst numbers are up, per visitor spend in the area is not what you think, a lot of people shop in the city or from home before venturing, then leaving the local infrastructure to clean-up behind. Increased visitors also impacts on the natural environment too. The roads are narrow, more narrow than you expect, and put numerous vehicles, especially inexperienced people in campers, and it's chaos at times. Not that it's featured, the Old Man on Skye, footfall has caused a massive negative impact on the landscape to the extent where path networks have been installed to corral people and try to keep the damage to a minimum.

I agree, the solitude and freedom that Caithness, Sutherland and Wester Ross provide are wonderful places for reflection and introspection. I did a solo backpacking trip from Tongue to Ullapool in the summer of 1981 aged 17 reliant on post-buses and whatever accommodation I could find. The landscape, yes its beautiful but savage. Awesome watching, the place hasn't really changed that much. enjoy!

It takes some folk a lifetime to discover what life and it’s adventure is about. You found it so young and all credit to you. it’s not luck, you’ve listened to yourself and chose an amazing path. It’s so great to see a young person with honesty, positivity, appreciation and a love of nature. Great storytelling and awesome videography. It took me until I was 31 to see the light and 25 years later still adventurising ! in what could be described as different to the norm, who wants to be normal ! Keep enjoying the journey and I’m sure I speak for everyone here you’re an inspiration

Hi Becky, you’re just a joy to watch 😊. I love the passion you have for your surroundings, the nature and your life style. You are always appreciated, positive and present in the moment. I did the NC500 nearly 30 years ago before it was even a thing and I laughed when you said how remote and wild it is….you should have seen it back then. When you could drive all day and not see anyone else and of course there wasn’t any of the lovely coffee and cake shops around like now. Looking forward to your next episode. Take care. 😊

Lovely video, the journey you take is a truthful reflection of what Scotland is, when you push yourself beyond the usual comforts. You take the time to embrace the simple pleasures that you generously share with the viewer. The changing weather - like the landscape itself - is welcomed as part of the experience. So many senses are stimulated - and the delights of what’s around the next hill, or being thrilled by diving in a loch or climbing a peak, are treasures to you. You don’t seem daunted. Instead, you develop capacities to match the challenges you take on. Your wise insights are impressive to me - like the part where the return to a built environment feels a bit alien - as you recognise that the real world is the wilderness - and how you miss it. We know we are the visitors there - with sharpened awareness that respecting the elements and reading the landscape are vital. I’ve got a strong feeling that Scotland - at least the wild parts- have captured your heart. Maybe you will end up moving up here? You’d be a welcome addition to the community, I’m certain.

The far north west of Scotland, Assynt, is wonderful. Ullapool is MY town. Was up there withy wife visiting her sister and brother in law in January and, with luck, will go back later this year. How long ago was your Cape Wrath Trail walk? I remember starting to watch that series on a PREVIOUS visit to Ullapool. The Geopark is really interesting and when up there again, you should have a look at Knockan Crag - a stop on that coastal road northbof Ullapool - REALLY important for geologists! A good video, as usual. Thanks!

I know all too well how remote this area is. I was on a trip with my mum and step dad and we had a break down at the bottom of Ben Hope. I had to walk/run for miles to finally get phone reception. We then had a 5 hour wait on the nearest recovery truck getting us and also a taxi coming to take us to Achiltibuie, looks up Ben Hope to that small town for an idea of distance for a taxi, thankfully it was covered by the AA. Was some drive, pitch black but the headlights kept catching the deer running across the road, unbelievable amount of them. Stac Pollaidh is one of my favourite little hills in Scotland. Everyone that enjoys the hills should climb that little beauty if in the area. I also want to climb Ben Hope (feel like I need to have the break down) and Suilven is on my to do list.

Good to see you still up this way and enjoying it. Those of us who live up in the North of the Highlands really are the lucky few I have been roaming around up here for decades and it just gets better and better the older I get. I could never see myself ever wanting to live anywhere else. I do nip down south to Inverness from time to time but honestly even just popping down there makes me appreciate getting back up here afterwards. I see you might have taken some of my recommendations in your last video and decided to nip off course to explore around Dornoch and surrounding area. It’s a lovely area and often overlooked by many. Be careful on the hills on your own in or visibility though if you don’t have things such as a GPS, waterproof map, compass, lights, also always having people aware of your hike and who know what time you should be back at your car etc.. a lot of people get caught out up here, even groups of experienced climbers get caught off guard and mountain rescue have to come to their aid at times. I also wouldn’t worry too much about fresh food on the NC500. Heading the anti-clockwise route there are fully stocked stores at Dingwall, Alness, Invergordon, Tain, Dornoch, Golspie, Brora, Helmsdale, Wick, Thurso, Bettyhill, Tongue, Durness, Kinlochbervie, Lochinver, Ullapool etc.. even on the less rural parts of the route there’s always a store no more than a short drive away. Far enough to be a pain if you have to walk or get the bus but always close enough with a car. I look forward to seeing more of your travels soon. It’s been interesting watching your channel change over the years. It doesn’t seem that long ago when you first appeared here on YT but looking back it’s been a fair few years I have been subscribed and watching you roam around some cool places. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying the travels whilst ur young. I do far less travelling now days as I have kids, a business, life in general. That said I am lucky enough to live and breath the Highlands every day and even just doing the school run with the snow capped hills towering over the school, running my business and leaving at the end of the day to see the insane sunsets, driving along the coast to the local supermarket in all the weathers, even just sitting out the back of my house burning a few logs and watching the northern lights above me, well even regular old day to day life is just magic up here 🤟🏼

Wonderful area Becks. The ruins of Ardvreck castle on Loch Assynt are so evocative. Do go back & climb Suilven if you can. I did it in 2005 & was lucky enough to get the views which are second to none. Remains my favourite mountain day ever, so try & pick a fine day if you can; it'll knock your socks off. looking forward to the next video with the Bealach Na Ba & my favourite place, Skye. xx
