As a D2 owner I'm probably biased but I genuinely believe the D2 was the best vehicle Land Rover ever produced. They're built using strong, simple, mechanical components, they're comfortable and easy to drive and there's minimal techno-wizardry going on. Percy is also the ideal spec' for reliability, without things like ACE and air-suspension to go wrong sooner or later. Obviously, the only problem is that Percy is the wrong colour, since the proper colour for a D2 is Zambezi silver. 😛 Regarding the problems you're having, I guarantee there'll be a specific, simple, solution but it takes somebody who's seen it before and recognises it to fix it. I had a problem with mine last year, where it'd start to cough and splutter at more than 2,500rpm. I assumed the worst and thought the turbo might be worn out, took it to a "specialist" who looked at it and (after charging me £160) diagnosed a likely problem with either the inlet pressure sensor, inlet temperature sensor, mass air flow sensor or, possibly, a faulty ECU. 😳 In the mean time, it occured to me that it might be a problem with the £60 fuel pump in the tank so I bought a replacement and fitted it, which improved things but didn't cure it completely. Happened to stop at a local garage where the owner works on a lot of LRs and he immediately said "Have you checked the water sensor on the fuel filter?" Erm, what? Apparently, the sensor is made of plastic that becomes brittle, cracks, and allows air to get into the fuel system. Unscrewed the water sensor (which was wet and smelled of diesel) and replaced it with a plastic cap. Problem solved! Bought a new water sensor for about £8 and fitted it to restore my D2 to proper running order.

I converted my 2009 110 Defender to a full on camper (oak interior, library, kitchen, wardrobe/drying cabinet - creature comforts :-) ) but for all I love it and have driven all over Europe and the UK, the one thing that absolutely drives me mad are not the mechanical issues, but the amount of water that gets inside! I’ve got the official Landrover workshop manual “fix water leaks” and I still live in a swimming pool. But for all of that, waking up to some of the views and experiences I have makes all of that just melt away. Freedom I don’t take for granted. Like you say, it’s decompression. It’s about being able to find balance between the work stress and out of hours work stress that comes from stressing about work. Keep up the great videos! And fingers crossed your seals stay sealed!

Hi Becky! This technique of cooking with charcoal fire, in southern Brazil, we do "churrasco". And the way you put the meat interspersed with peppers, it's a type of barbecue called "Xixo Gaúcho". But we roast it with more than one type of meat, onions and tomatoes. It's delicious!😋

I have the Ox Overland Diesel roof tent and the quality on it as absolutely superb, really can't fault the tent whatsoever. But a downside for this _style_ of tent is that it hangs over the vehicle with a ladder coming down permanently as part of the setup. It works totally fine, but I think it restricts where you can realistically deploy it in wild camp scenarios. It attracts a lot of attention and if it is extending passed your vehicle I feel like it could be considered more objectionable if someone comes upon you. Where as, on the other hand, a tent which only takes the footprint of your roof, so is within the confines of your vehicle, is not a lot different from sleeping _in_ the vehicle. Ideally I'd love one where you pop the roof and the whole roof goes up. That's the perfect setup. But they are _very_ expensive.

I recently moved up to Northern Maine very near the Canadian border. I agree with you about getting out in the bush and unplugging from job( work 40 hours and only canoe/camp/fish for 6 hours this week-gotta work on those numbers!), trappings of town etc. There is lots of it up here, truck camping/overlanding opportunities are abundant if you are willing to go out there into the wilderness(not many do). it really is some of the only remaining wilderness in the Eastern US (3.5million acres). I went out in my canoe a few times up here so far. It is beauteous(one overnighter before the bugs came out) ! I have seen many moose already, including a baby/calf moose, and a cow moose let me get with in 50 yards of her on a pond this past weekend. I was paddling my boat very still and she was eating vegetation along the edge . I might have seen the same cow moose the day before eat a remote boat launch on the lake just above the pond where I was at on Sunday (Fish Lake and The Fish River) There are remote primitive campsites out there that can be reached by boat or Truck. Some of them even have 'privy'! all of them have a fire ring, picnic table and some have poles to hang a tarp over. Look up northmainewoods.org. I finally got my season pass from them, unlimited day use and overnight camping through Sept. 30th!!! I've wanted to do this for a long time. Made a big change and moved up here. it's like a different world and even country up here. very remote. There is some poverty and blight, and not much economy, but the people are very friendly the forest, rivers lakes and ponds are vast for this part of the eastern US. Sorry for being long winded , I enjoy your videos very much and you have been an inspiration , Thank You! Here's to summer 2024!

Hi Becks. Owning a vehicle & doing the huge mileage that you do is always going to result in pouring cash into repairs. That's just how it is but you & I know that we'll pay the price but we won't count the cost because it's so worth it - to experience the freedom of a road trip & enjoy a precious few days or weeks in places like the Lake District or the Scottish highlands. But even staying closer to home can be wonderful, if you know where to go for a bit of solitude in nature. Looking forward to your summers adventures xx

Glad you got Percy sorted. An old boy needs a lot of looking after😂. I think a roof tent is overrated. All that extra weight and fuss and I know mould can be an issue. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of roof tents. I suspect a lot of people buy them because they think they're "supposed" to rather than because they really need one. It might not seem like a big deal but the whole ritual of setting up a roof tent, carting stuff in and out of it and then packing it away again becomes a niusance very quickly. About the only time I'd recommend a roof tent is if you're planning a big trip (several weeks or longer) where the back of the vehicle will be full of stuff AND you'll appreciate having a separate "room" to sleep in at the end of the day. If you're only using the vehicle for a few days at a time it's much simpler to just have a sleeping platform in the back that you can climb onto at night and allows you to drive the vehicle with minimal de-rigging afterward. And that's without considering stuff like what effect a roof tent has on the way the vehicle drives, the fuel consumption and the fact that a roof tent immediately tells people it's an overland vehicle which is likely to contain all sorts of expensive gadgets.

Great videos! With regards to Percy playing up. I would strongly recommend, that you find a diesel specialist. I own a 24 year old diesel campervan. It is always the electric sensors that cause problems. Best advice is to take your time and find an independent diesel specialist garage who have all the old diagnostic computers. These garages can be expensive, but worth it! Just remember most diesel engines have over 100 sensors, so it can be trying to find a needle in a haystack!! Keep those videos coming!
