This is really great commentary compared to a lot of cross commentary today. Great camera, great production values and great announcers. I believe that now we are living in the House that Katelyn Built, similar, on a much smaller scale, to the Caitlin Clark phenomenon, where we are now seeing a flourishing of all the Tweenies who watched KT as children, just as basketball has seen a resurgence following in the wake of Caitlin Clark, who may turn out to be the greatest ambassador yet for girls sports, ever.

I only realized I had a love for XC when I started running around the perimeter of the local golf corse, and was able to understand the experience, at least a bit.

Golf course was the course at university of Minnesota. See if you can find one that will let you run the edges :-)

Was Mia Sirois holding back? 1min behind her Illinois State performance.

Her state performance was 15:53.4 for 3 miles and yesterday was 16:57 for 5k, on a much more difficult course. I would probably argue her NXR race was more impressive than her state race. She didn't have to race anyone in Illinois all year and in this race, essentially her first 'race', she made almost all the moves and surges and forced the other girls to cover. Even though Mia didn't win it was a fantastic effort.

i'm confused...are these not high school meets? why are there "clubs" vs. "schools". sorry for the dumb question

@@imfexy2 NXR is after most states cross country state meet, so in order to join you have to be a club because the team isn’t in season anymore

They are high schoolers. They just rebrand the HS team name to something similar usually and run as an indy team. UIL issues I guess.

So, up until fairly recently, there was no national XC championship that included real teams. It was just Foot Locker for many years, which was individuals competing to be on a "team" of their region. Nike Cross is a way to give actual teams a chance to compete nationally, but the schools don't officially have anything to do with it. The kids have to register their own teams.
