As Jessica's vocals are mentioned heavily in this video, her departure/dismissal in 2014 marked a huge change/shift in SNSD's sound and line distribution. The early songs -- you can really hear the domination of the 2 main or key vocalists and especially their blend/harmony, which is sorely missed post-2014. As SNSD developed, things improved but I think the lines and vocals really changed due to Jessica's absence -- the non-vocal line members got more lines/parts. The best example is Forever One which had Hyo, Yuri and Yoona singing the last lines of the song.

Yes, the line distribution got more equal in my opinion after that. Even Sunny got a more main vocal role.

I think this album made Girls' Generation a national girl group. The songs are loved by men and women of all ages, and the girls' bright personalities and thoughtfulness are there.

I understand your point that it's a bit surprising that the other tracks (aside from Boyfriend) doesn't sonically fit the overall 'Genie' vibe. This got me thinking too: based on the theme of the songs in this EP have the 'wish' theme, or specifically (trying) making your wishes come true. Don't mind me, I'm babbling here lol. Also this is my fave EP 😂
