I agree the show was good because they were not airheads and understand what makes good entertainment. They were beautiful women who liked to be seen as sexy etc. This is why you were special to the public Bridget, as you had your masters you were already successful but sexy too.

“She lost her virginity to Hef.” Bridget’s reaction to that statement says it all. To take something like that from a girl who loves you and then treat her the way he did. That poor young woman. I hope she has healed the wound that would come with that and found true love with someone who values her.

Hef used most women and they used him I doubt it was a meeting of the minds. He wanted beautiful women and youthful bodies. They were attracted to lifestyle money. I think Holly seemed to be the only one to actually care about him as a person.

It’s crazy because this podcast has helped me in my personal life. My mother & I had a talk over the holidays about my grandfather/her father. My mom has spoken critically of him as when she was growing up he was an alcoholic gambler who absent from her life. However, he cleaned his life up & had become an entirely different person by the time I & his grandchildren were born. I used to shut my mom down & tell her not to speak of him negatively to me because for me he was the greatest man I had ever known, who hung the moon & did no wrong. After listening to this podcast though, it helped me realize things. So, in our talk during the holidays this time I told my mother that although I knew another side of him I can respect the fact she knew another & apologized for shutting her experience down. I see now that my mother was sort of like Holly & I was like the others who refused to accept her experience because mine was different. So, thank y’all for this podcast as it helped my & my mother’s relationship & to accept others can have different experiences & both can be respected. 🫶🏽

Spoiling us this week. Nice. Always impressed how this podcast and the guests on it articulate 'ambivalence' and are able to remain fair. It's pretty inspiring. Katie sounds like she’s way more open to acknowledging her mom’s trauma here, in the secrets of playboy she almost seemed like a Hef-apologist. I watched this first so I was expecting a similar take, then was shocked to see her lack of nuanced understanding in the series. I also was not prepared for her mom’s experiences being SO BAD in comparison to how Katie casually speaks about it on here. Their stories could not be more different, yet she compares them a lot. Thank you guys❤always super interesting!

I’m currently watching the episode with Katie (S2 E4) and it was truly jarring and so difficult to hear the warped view of Hef and the mansion culture. It very clearly sounded that Hef was love bombing her with excessive affection, attention, and compliments to manipulate you. I’m glad to hear that the illusion is being chipped away. Denial is powerful because we don’t have to confront uncomfortable truths. I hope they all continue to unpack Hef and the system of SA/SV and abuse, and learn about how they engage with this discourse in a way that doesn’t discredit all the survivors/victims

Who’s her mom ?
@wvugirl200710 ай бұрын
Her mom is Sondra, Hef’s ex from the 70s. I’m so shocked Sondra brought her daughter into that considering the way she spoke about her time at the mansion. She really spoke horrendously about him in the Secrets of Playboy. I find it very interesting when people return to a place that they left and are sickened by and even bring others into it. I’m seeing a back and forth with her towards him. If she’s going to bash at least own up to not and running like others expect. Sorry for ranting. I just had issues with her story. Maybe they did her bad in how they edited it for me.
@12alyssaj8 ай бұрын
@@wvugirl2007I was thinking the same thing. When she was saying how Hef better stay away from her daughter when she got older I was thinking how could you go back after her story?! Then it got me thinking of someone I know in my life. She was abused as a teenager by her biological father which resulted in a pregnancy. When that child was 10 years old she would take her to visit her parents house. Her father still lived there and she had a brother living there as well. It was a weekly ritual that she would visit her family. Anyway, her daughter ended up being molested by her brother. So the cycle repeated itself. I couldn’t understand how she could go back to her parents house to visit weekly 10 years after it happened to her only to have it happen to her child. Who knows why people do certain things.
